The Explore the Core Expedition

Join the Explore the Core Infernal Expedition !

Departing March 26 at 12:00 UTC (In game time) from Gebel
Carrier: D SCAN WLL SOON B OVER

It's time for another Expedition! Since our last expedition (the Great Galactic Circumnavigation Infernal Expedition) focused on the fringes of the galaxy, this time we will explore the core. This will be a complete compact circumnavigation of the galactic core, with lots of time for exploration and sightseeing. We are planning to visit some spectacular locations as well as traveling high above and below the galactic plane for stunning views. We will be travelling over 88,000 LYs on this voyage over the course of about 5 weeks. We will of course plan on many events including mass jumps, SRV/SLF/Ship races, and on foot events for Odyssey players. Simply dock on the carrier before departure and let us take you to the galactic core and back!

All services are installed on D SCAN WLL SOON B OVER, the expedition carrier, including all carrier concourse services, allowing everyone to take as many ships and modules as they like. We'll also be able to enjoy watching the carrier jumps from the bridge.

All are welcome to join!

Departure is from Gebel at 12:00 UTC on Saturday, March 26

Expedition Logs: Week 1

It’s been an amazing first week of the Explore the Core Infernal Expedition! Although we are not traveling as far as the Great Galactic Circumnavigation Infernal Expedition, interest seems much higher this time with almost 150 commanders joining. We departed Gebel on schedule with a full complement of commanders on foot in the carrier viewing area on Saturday for our first destination, the Autumn Nebula. We held our first event there with almost 30 commanders participating in flyovers of the carrier followed by a mass jump past the neutron star at the center of the Nebula to a nearby system, followed by a planetside SRV race.

The Qing Long Caverns were our next Destination on Sunday, where we broke out our Vipers and held a race around one of the mesas in the cavern area. At some point during the races, a group of commanders thought it would be a good idea to race on the course in the opposite direction as the main group. Luckily there were no collisions but many close calls, and some of the races devolved to friendly PvP events! A good time was had by all!

The expedition has now reached the famous system containing the only known Void Hearts in the galaxy. Here, we held an event with 2 teams competing to see which could corral the most seed pods to their mothership. Mayhem ensued when it was discovered that the sidewinders and SLFs being used would simply phase through some of the seed pods, taking corrosive damage as they did this. There were many pretty explosions.

Aside from the events, we have also started a screenshot competition and are documenting our most significant discoveries through our leaderboard competition. CMDR Yogbibliobablodoth has also started a speed landing challenge where the commander with the fastest time to land on all planets in the system wins. Although the expedition carrier, D SCAN WLL SOON B OVER, has only traveled about 25,000 LYs so far, collectively the expedition commanders have traveled over 1M LYs! As on our last expedition, CMDR Solandri’s carrier the Castiana joined the expedition while we were well underway with a stock of exploration ships and modules to allow commanders to stock up. Big thanks again to CMDR Solandri for this amazing service! CMDR Erbus5 also joined us with his crew on the carrier Sense amid Madness at the Void Heart system and will stay with us until we reach SagA. All commanders are still welcome to join us for the exciting month ahead!

We spent the last 2 days at the Aether Nebula, a spectacular and underappreciated location 2000LYs above the galactic plane. There are loads of undiscovered Black Holes, Neutron Stars, and Wolf Rayet Stars here, leading to lots of exciting first discoveries for the crew. We've also discovered a tritium overlap for future voyagers with Fleet Carriers who venture out here. We held several events, including our first Odyssey on foot event, first playing football with a Guardian orb, and then rolling canisters of Hutton Mugs in teams, followed by an SRV race off the side of a 5km crater rim!

Catching up of the many events / discoveries...
We spent some time at Red and Green Glory , where we held a delivery event to refurbish the bar on Sense Amid Madness. Commanders picked up Building Schematics from the bar on D SCAN WLL SOON B OVER, and raced around the Neutron Star at the center of the nebula to land on Sense Amid Madness and deliver them to the bartender there. CMDR Mikklen was the big winner!

Expedition Logs: Week 2

It’s been another exciting week on the Explore the Core Infernal Expedition! The expedition has moved another 20,000 LYs, and is now at the Blue Rhapsody Nebula, past the furthest system from Sol on our itinerary. In spite of this distance, commanders continue to join the expedition and join in our events and discoveries.

After we departed the Void Heart system, we moved to the Aether Nebula, a spectacular and underappreciated region 2000 LYs above the galactic plane. While we were there, we held a number of events, including our first on foot event with commanders playing football with a guardian orb, followed by a SRV race off the side of a 5km high crater rim. CMDR Rex Kramer XV also discovered double overlapping tritium hotspots there for future explorers arriving with fleet carriers.

We next moved to the Red and Green Glory planetary nebula, where we held a race to deliver building schematics from D SCAN WLL SOON B OVER's bartender to SENSE AMID MADNESS's bartender, with commanders racing both on foot in the carriers and in Stock Vipers around the Neutron Star we were orbiting, which led to some unfortunate crashes as well as an exciting finish. After this event we headed to the planetary beacon where landed our ships 500m from the beacon and raced on foot to get to the top of the beacon with all commanders shooting each other with on foot weapons. There were many deaths, and this system briefly became the most dangerous place in the known galaxy!

Our next destination was Goliath's Rest, at 2800LYs above the galactic plane, this stop was also the highest stop on our itinerary. Although the stellar density is quite low here, due to the abundance of Neutron Stars even commanders with ship ranges as low as 15LYs could jump on their own from our last stop to this one. We held SLF races here around the carrier with some commanders watching the race from within the bar and bridge viewing areas with the galaxy providing a spectacular backdrop.

The expedition has also been making numerous discoveries of black holes, high G worlds, and exobiology life with first entries in the galactic codex! The expedition leaderboard continues with fierce competition among the expedition crew. Unfortunately some space madness has also set in and there are now rumors of an Edmund Mahon spy among us, which is making commanders uneasy and constantly looking over their shoulders. Some commanders have even gone to far as to crash their SLFs into the carrier bridge to eliminate the perceived threat! In spite of this, morale remains high and all are still welcome to join us for the rest of our journey!

Catching up with Events again... so many things happening on the expedition right now!

At the Blue Rhapsody Nebula we held a PvP event with either stock Vipers or Sidewinders inside the supercruise exclusion zone of the Neutron Star in the center of the Nebula!

After this fun, we decided to do some SLF racing on one of the icy bodies in the system...

It did turn into sort of a PvP battle again somehow, and once again this system showed up on the INARA security report!

At the Purple Rings Nebula, CMDR Robert Clark organized an SRV bumper car demolition derby at one of the Geological Sites on a landable planet. Mayhem ensued as usual.

This was followed by an Epic SRV PvP battle, which once again ensured that this system made the INARA security report. It's actually feasible at this point to track the expedition progress via the INARA security reports. :p

Our stop for the last couple of days was Rati´s Egg, which at 138km is only very slightly larger than the smallest body ever discovered. Our expedition has found some very small landable bodies as well, with Chewcat1 holding the lead with a 149km discovery!

While at Rat's Egg, the crew conducted some EVA exercises to practice on foot ship repairs, as many ships seem to be getting destroyed on the expedition.

We also attempted to get an SRV into orbit in Odyssey, which unfortunately did not seem to have the same mechanics as in Horizons. When we reached the 20km point where the SRV normally launches itself from the ship carrying it, the launch was followed by a respawn at the planet surface! We did confirm however, that commanders are able to disembark from an SRV parked on a ship high above the surface!

- - - EMERGENCY TRANSMISSION - - -

Disaster has struck the crew of the Explore the Core Infernal Expedition! The alleged Mahon spy was found stealing valuable expedition tritium from the carrier's holds at the Storms of Fenrisulfur, and escaped in his battle hardened Federal Corvette armed to the teeth and supported by SLFs. Many valiant attempts were made by the expedition crew to bring the spy to justice, although the crew was seriously outmatched and outgunned. The battle raged first near D SCAN WLL SOON B OVER, the expedition carrier, and then was brought to inside the lightning storm NSP in the system. Over 200 ships were lost in this epic battle, and the system became the highest threat system in the galaxy!
