    These threads always go the same way, Arrak. Someone like yourself asks a genuine question and a whole bunch of sanctimonious gits rock up to pontificate the same old mantras- variations on either 'git gud' or 'zomg the AI is so OP since the last patch'. I think a couple of things happened to you. You're rusty, which gave the AI an unusual advantage. That'll wear off over the next few sessions. But you're right, NPCs have had a balance pass (or two) and they're now set up to offer some challenge to average pilots in engineered ships. They hit harder, they shoot straighter, their shields and hull are tougher than they were before engineering became a thing. Some of the higher ranked ones have had a tweak to their AI and get engineered weapons to boot. It's not a major blow. After you get back into the swing of things you'll probably enjoy the extra challenge. And as some of the guys posted, you can engineer your ship.     This explains my experience in the CZ. Have a serious 10 minute dogfight.. ok i dont mind that its enjoyable when they fight. But then you start to win and its like.. bye *pop* gone. Its like they simulated combat logging for solo players

    Thanks, Darkcyde. I have adjusted the original post to properly account for the zero-based indexing. Too many different scripting languages ... I was getting confused as to whether Cottle defaulted to 0-base or 1-based pseudo-arrays (Lua, by comparison, uses 1-based). As for the logic to check MY_SHIP_VOICE - agreed, but on my system there are (for some reason) some doubled-up voices - e.g. "Microsoft Zira" and "Microsoft Zira Desktop", hence the more complex test since I wanted to exclude both (they sound the same). I wasn't worried about any other duplications ending up in the NPC-voice list.

    There is a point to OP's point, but I think it might be the idea to simulate that the star light is hitting space dust and thus why that colour is there? but maybe should be expressed differently?

    Nope, the definition of indiscriminate is not "it's a post processing pixel shader". Full screen motion blur is ALSO post processing via (potentially) pixel shader. But it doesn't bluer the ENTIRE screen. It's not indiscriminate. You don't know what goes in. INDISCRIMINATE would be just slapping a red shift over it all. Clearly THAT isn't going on. So there's a determinant to what it does. Making it non indiscriminate. look up the word.

    I think they've removed that functionality to enhance the new one. In my opinion it wouldn't make sense to make the two compatible at the same time. You don't have to warn me. It is not my desire to indoctrinate anyone, and I am well aware that my opinion will be different from other people. In all my post of this thread I always speak of my point of view and my opinion and reiterate that it is not my desire to convince anyone.

    You would need a mix of a human and an NPC. The game will not let you use 2 NPCs for two different fighters.

    A bit of a rant on the Lutris website: I originally wrote that script, unfortunately it was rejected then a few days later the guy whoever moderates the scripts on Lutris website added an edited version (with some unnecessary things like dotnet472) but leaving out the vital instructions I typed that stated you needed to point to wine64 manually (because the installer would fail if you tried to point towards a custom wine path). So you got a script on Lutris that could work but thanks to that guy nobody knows how to get it working. It's not just ED either but a ton of Lutris scripts for other games end up broken over time due to mods unnecessary editing them, that why I'd recommend people install via Lutris the manual way rather than use the one click install scripts. Lutris as a tool is great however the current "regime" behind the script moderation leaves a lot to be desired.

    Still getting the odd 15-30 second total game freeze-up. Luckily, it hasn't happened during combat and also the entire game freezes so I do not crash into anything when it happens. I am spending most of my time on the ground, surface prospecting (night-vision is very nice), filling up on G5 (and other) raw materials until it gets sorted out and the BGS evolves some systems into more desirable states. The new surface scanner/mapper is awesome for finding geological sites that give up high-level materials and the FSS is great for finding G5 manufactured materials in HGE-USS.

    Nope, it is. Well, it;s actually a simulated picture of what you'd see.This IS a game. But within the gameworld, it really IS space dust. Well, after you prove it isn't space dust. and all those proclamations about alternative facts that "prove" it can't be. I'll wait.

    You know, there is a distance-to-target countdown right in the center of the HUD that tells you how close to your destination you are and there is an altimeter on the right side of your HUD. Your ship also has "headlights" that will light up the ground from reasonably high up, I have used them to map Guardian sites. There's basically one rule regarding planetary landings, day or night: Don't boost when your ship is pointed at the ground (unless you are still really, really high up). I lost a ship just yesterday slamming it into the ground on a metal-rich world . . . in broad daylight.
