    I intentionally left that out of my assessment, as I am unaware of any concrete changes/improvements that have been detailed, shown and given a solid release window. So I'm judging it 'as is', which is decent mechanic IMHO. And yeah, the stuff around it is silly. I dont think I need to point out the daftness of charging serious cash for the privilege of testing one specific feature in a very early alpha version of a what might become a game.

    Will bow out but it is funny to see how you guys play these forum meta wars and hope you can convince that way FD to do you bidding. It is not how any of this works. Learn how to play meta, stop shedding salty tears. Gameplay wise I think Sandro was spot on about how they see this issue. You might disagree or not, but modes are here to stay, Open is here to stay, and PvP will be always a choice. Don't forget to have fun. Obsessing over game is never healthy.

    First, it's not clear to me where the mining laser fits into the 3 roles mentioned... Is it being replaced by this ablative blaster? It looks really good as is, though I do have a suggestion: make an optional mining pod (launches from the fighter bay, think of it like the load lifter in the movie Aliens, but in space). The point of this would be to collect materials and maybe do some surface mining. I say this because I have a lot of fun maneuvering around to collect materials when mining, but to mine properly I need a bigger ship, which makes it less fun to maneuver in. Also, there's little reason to multicrew into a mining ship based off these changes. Having someone hop into a mining pod and doing the surface work +collecting some materials provides a way for multicrew to improve the mining experience

    Could you check Windows event logs to see if you have anything in there when the game crashes? It does sound like a weird driver issue, and the EVGA 900 series cards have in the past been known to behave weirdly too, especially when (factory) overclocked and cause driver resets in weird conditions. Blindly reducing GPU peak clock by 50MHz or so may be worth a shot.

    I've already said my praise and noted my worries, but I'd also like to join in the chorus of requesting that planetary mining be a thing. I love driving on the planets in VR, but once my materials inventory is full I don't really have much of a reason to do it. Being able to mine on planets would give us another much needed and logical activity to enjoy on planetary surfaces. Perhaps those mountains in the middle of large craters can be a consistent hotspot for mining goodies? The "SRV inventory" issue gets in the way, but can't we do some handwavium to make transferring cargo to our ship easier? I rarely pick up stuff I find on planets since it's A: not worth much, and B: a slow process of calling my ship and transferring 2 measly tons at a time. I think this might be one of those things where the "wait" doesn't add a nice bit of drama and is more just a slow hassle. Even still, it'd be nice if we could hit some mother lodes on planets and just have more to do on them in general.

    As with all of CIG's feature mechanics though (and as I've said before, I don't have a particular issue with it as far as it goes), this is "mining tier 0.0" - according to Twerk, as with so many things in the game, it's going to get so much better "soon". Also, remember it's firmly locked behind a $140 paywall* once 3.2 is released to the PU, until such time as ship buying in-game becomes a thing. *the Prospector seems to be currently unavailable on the RSI website but that site is such a mess I can't tell if I can buy it/upgrade to it or not. Incidentally, I was watching the latest "Redacted" discussion on Twitch with Twerk, Wtfosaurus and Crucian yesterday (content starts at the 9 minute mark). Well worth a look if you can stomach the 2 hour running time and the intense theorycrafting, because it exposes a lot of the fault lines currently running through the project and the backers' dreams of how the game is going to turn out.

    This has been my argument forever. If you're a cop/soldier/whatever, and a squad mate is laying down rounds at the baddies, you'd have to be a nutcase to run straight in front of the guys firing line. It's that simply, and you probably deserve the bullet you collect for your stupidity. Now, when the rounds being fired by your squad mates also put out enough light to support their own solar system, that's a special level of stupid. Z...

    Not sure what leads you to this leap. Open is the base version of the game and an open Open is what was always intended. They've already given numerous tools for players to segment themselves, so divvying Open up into sub-modes would seem highly counter productive. Open isn't synonymous with PvP, just with the potential for direct PvP. If that potential is enough to dissuade you, there are other modes, and all you lose is some Power Play features, which was always PvP, just abstracted in Solo and Private.
