I don't see E|D as a 'fight for territory'. Simply because there is so much else to do. One can occupy their time pushing/pulling influence as part of the game, certainly. That's something that I indulge in. But, it's not like coming to control a system has any effect on overall game play. A faction you just shot to heck, will still offer you missions, and you can gain rep with them easily, right after. There really is no 'Territory', just flags we get to hang up. No one has to join a faction to get missions, or access to services from them.

You mean falling asleep and crashing into star following a jump? Is that the danger you're talking about?

Pretty much same experience except for switching to PC and volunteering with the Lidpar Academy. I had quite a number of contacts thanks to the forums here and Fuel Ratting. Up until Horizons my Galmap would be flooded with green markers. Now I'm lucky if I see any at all during a normal play session and I rarely see more than two at a time. The only time this changes is when a new update comes out. After a week or so it's back to a virtual no man's sk.. err land. I still see the occasional hollow square from time to time but only when I'm in or near a system with an engineer or hosting a CG or similar point of interest. Never get a random o7 anymore and I remember those would always get thrown up in the comms before. One other thing I've noticed. The Xbox forums used to be much busier and less salty. It used to be a topic wasn't considered dead until it reached "page 2 obscurity." Now more than half way down the page and a thread is usually finished. I will continue playing Elite because I enjoy...

OP, here is what you do: A) Stop whining... missions are somewhat RNG based so you can get a bad run, however promotion missions are given preference. B) Stop doing what you are doing and go run Data missions in Sothis and Ceos until the mission shows up. No, I don't care that you prefer combat, that is a far less efficient way to grind rank. You want this fixed, this is the way to do it. C) Do not stop doing Data missions if you do not see a promotion mission. Keep stacking and delivering them so you progress on the NEXT rank. D) Just go all the way to Rear Admiral now so you get the grind over with.

There's so much wrong with this post I hardly know where to start. How about here? 'Old enough to be your father.' What kind of paternalistic hogwash is this? Is this appropriate for a moderator? It's shameful is what it is. Once again you show you're totally outclassed and speaking out of your depth.

I agree a heatsink should dump a fixed amount of heat energy rather than remove a fixed % of heat (200% iirc), but having it based on realistic-ish calculations seems like overkill too. How about heat removal uses the inverse of the masslock factor?

zn˘rt replied to a thread Consensus of opinion. in Engineers
an unengineered cobra should have reasonable chance of escaping (following the standard 'git gud' procedure (submit, fsd, charge attacker until ready)) from any single engineered attacker, maybe even with fsd disruptors. it's fast, nimble, small target (unless you expose your back or belly). speed helps a lot but is not that determinant as piloting, ofc you're not getting away in a straight line. if you get ganked then odds are not in your favour. dunno about the clipper, i guess less so, but still. so "yes, you can". ofc not pvp except with rookies!

Mouse, Ive come to the conclusion you just like to argue here lol. BGS ships, faction ships are all NPC's with a value attached to them. Certain actions in the game that effect those ships. Impact the BGS. There are systems that players are attached to to. (See colonia all player owned systems but Jacques) Can be pushed and pulled by killing those minions. I mean ships sorry. The systems are objectives/towers and nexus is the home system. The Talent Tree and Rune system and the champion you pick in League. Is no Different than the Ship, Defenses and Offenses you pick and ENGINEER for this game. The whole game is very relatable 100% Even in trading, earning gold and credits to buy items and upgrades. Leveling up throughout the game becoming Elite or Level 18.

You're missing something, particularly information. You're really asking multiple questions here and expecting one answer. Firstly, Open =/= PvP. Open play is simply a mode where PvP can happen, and if/when it does, whether you fight or run drastically changes what you need to survive it. That being said, theoretically speaking an E Grade Sidey can beat any ship in the game if it's piloted well enough. So regardless of what you're doing, the answer is No, unless you want a handicap. Engineering doesn't make you a better pilot, quite the opposite, it makes piloting skill less of factor against unengineered enemies, which is the vast bulk of NPCs (everything except Deadly/Elite), and raises the potential of the ship you're flying. For PvP, skill should always trump engineering. By engineering your ship, you're simply reducing the amount by which you have to outclass your opponent. In PvE, it's pretty much the same deal, except that engineering can increase damage output, jump range etc, and therefore...

Nothing belongs to you, especially not NPC's. In a RES, one is farming 'Wanted' NPC's, not necessarily a specific faction's ships, except for a mission where you are looking for wanted ships of a given faction. Farming wanted NPC's would always be a positive for the Controlling Faction. You should encourage random players, using any mode, to take bounties in a system controlled by your favored faction. I'll have a look at what ever comparison you can offer. I don't see how any comparison between games could turn farming NPC's into PvP, but I'll have a look.

If the BGS isn't addressed this year I doubt it'll come anytime soon. FD has their internal plan on what to do next and won't deviate from it too much. And considering this entire years updates come for free I wouldn't scream too loud either. Ask yourself if EA would do the same or if Star Citizen goes live this year, to which you can utter a Not bloody likely.

This should be no problem as I have no real expectations... The game is best played that way for me. I really don't know what I want or want the game to go. Right now I'm on a bit of a break, hopefully the mission boards will get sorted out while I'm off doing other things. BF1 is amusing me for now, found a great hardcore server and I'm enjoying the gameplay immensely. I'll be back though, I love flying the ships!

You do know that isn't a requirement for something being true right? There are people who say the Holocaust didn't happen.. doesn't mean it didn't just means that is what they think. Just like you think two different types of games are somehow similar.
