It wouldn't be complicated at all. Mind you, I seem to remember that on release there was no option to hide orbit lines either, and we had to request that for a fair while before we got the toggle. Over five years later would seem to imply that FD for some reason are never going to consider adding toggles for the dust. Ah well.

That is unfortunately because you are also seeing a new NPC the next time you see it. Keep an eye on it, you'll also notice that sometimes it will come back with a completely different load out too.

A lesson which is learned on a much smaller scale when being tested on compass navigation over Rannoch Moor to this day ;) To find a distant point target like that, you really need either a handrail feature to hit, or have a set of closer wayoints which you can identify as you reach them to correct error. (There is no gps in the cockpit for galactic co-ordinates ;) And whilst having one on earth makes finding individual features on Terra facile, it's a good idea to know how to use a map and compass which won't run out of battery power or be affected by signal loss ;) :D )

It did my head in for about a week, as I recall. Then something clicked, and I stopped trying to fly reactively like I was in a Viper from Battlestar and started flying like a 3d strategy game, anticipating opponents moves and using the ability to have my orientation be entirely different to my vector. At that point, I absolutely loved it - granted, I rarely actually saw any ships I was fighting, because they were some distance away when they exploded, but it was enormously satisfying. I really did feel like I was piloting a spaceship, especially when docking. And it was nice to be able to land at Olympus City... I wonder if it is still there ;)

Ceekay replied to a thread My engineered fleet in Engineers
I've been playing since pre-release beta so I've got a bit of a head start on most commanders ;) Most of the fleet is engineered to G5 but some of the modules are legacy, currently I'm build a small fleet (pod? ;)) of Dolphins as taxi/mat collectors they really work well in this role. With Guardian shield enhancement packages you can add a lot of shielding to most ships (even the FAS!) but if you use bi-weave+resistance builds it's easy to add too many and end up with a shield that loses the fast charging advantages of bi-weave shields. Here's a FAS build I put together it has tough shields but they will eventually drop and the rebuild/regen times are now fairly significant, for a class 5 bi-weave perhaps around 500 - 700 MJ would be more appropriate (class 6 700 - 900 MJ and so on) ...

Day 2 and the gap is over double in favour of this CG now.. Don't forget to pick up a massacre mission at the station if your going to play long enough to kill 45+ ships in one day... ( about 5 battles in a conflict zone in a row per day... about 1hour 20mins of time...)

I found a listening post in Electra and then proceeded to find the corresponding two other listening posts according to the given directions. Now I have longitude, latitude and planet coordinates, as well as distance ranges for all three posts. The problem is that I have no idea how to triangulate the information in order to identify the correct system. Anyone knows how to identify the system in the 3D galactic map?

So many good ideas in this thread that could make this silly telescope much better. One could hope that someone from Frontier is taking actual notes, but we know whats the truth. Fss will probably get as much further development as multicrew did. I especially liked the "completelly remove honk" (yea why still have it?), and the "show the fss tune graph of whats in the system, somewhere on screen", so i can decide if i want to throttle down and enter the soul crashing telescope and engage in the futuristic zoom in/out mini game. I also still can see some people saying to those that dont like the fss, "then dont use it, just honk and it is like before". Clearly many people still havent used the fss telescope in unexplored systems, which makes it really funny to see how many people actually have an opinion, when in reality never have seen how silly and repetetive can be in unexplored systems where one have to destroy his soul with countless zoom in/out in order to reveal the entire system. And the jump,...

I'll start this with the fact I always loved Han Solo, the ruffian, the scoundrel the nerf-herder. I also feel I mentioned it a while ago but my memory is awful. In Frontier: Elite 2 the black market was incorporated into the mission/bulletin board with you having to make contact with the shady character and run the risk of it actually being a police sting. Couple that with the newer mechanics of ships being scanned on entry and exit of stations plus engineering modules and I feel that smuggling could become more than "silent running into a station with a black market that is advertised on the galaxy map and sell your stuff for a little over market price". I don't profess to know how complicated this would be - but having seen (and enjoyed) the changes to mining to make it a little more thought intensive (well a little) although I'm still waiting to blow up an asteroid - I feel it could become a smaller part of trading which those who like to skirt the law would find a little more pleasurable. ...

The CG to improve services starts on 7 March and assuming it goes well, station services should be online shortly after it finishes. Hmm. It *has* weapons available, but I'm not sure I'd describe it as "well stocked". And it does stock the detailed surface scanner, a range of limpets and refineries, cargo racks, AFMUs, fuel scoops, etc. as well. With no shield boosters, hull reinforcements or module reinforcements ... and only a few low-end SCBs ... it's really not a combat-oriented outfitting set. It's a generic low-grade outfitting service, that's all.
