Huge rep to all involved. I think ED is the last major piece of software keeping me on Windows. Everything else has either a native binary or works through Wine.

In general, I'm not opposed to anything that's optional. Up to this point, synthesis has been optional. But there have been many posts in this thread (some from you, I thought) that implied that finite probes should be mandatory, which implies for all. And let me just clarify, I'm not personally opposed to finite probes! What I am opposed to is synthesis being the only way to replenish probes. If I can load my cargo hold up with 100 probes per 1 ton canister, I'd be more than happy with finite probes. I just have a serious issue with having to craft probes like Lara Croft crafts arrows. Now all that said, there are plenty of players who will hate my idea as well, and I understand why. That's why I think ultimately, when everything is taken into consideration (non-Horizon owners, mandatory SRVs that can break, forced synthesis, etc.) the infinite probes seems to be the best compromise, though I do wish they would change the Lore so that these are energy equivalents to active sonar pings :D Now let me...

And I've circumnavigated the galaxy nine times. Sorry, but the golden rule of online gaming still applies: screenshot or it didn't happen. Which specific expeditions did you do? You did say that you "haven't done any exploration in ages". As for "I have been perfectly reasonable": I wouldn't say that being the most combative regular poster here, outright refusing to even consider understanding others' viewpoints, and saying they aren't in their right minds, is being perfectly reasonable. Now, for "All I have said is give the new mechanics are chance": If you re-read the replies here, I think you'll find that most everyone will be giving the mechanics a chance. Very few, if any, people have said that they're quitting now and not even trying the new changes in the beta. That would be not giving the new mechanics a chance. Will we really have to?

One thing to consider in the debate about infinite probes vs synthesis is what the purpose of the probes is. You use them in order to discover things on the surface of planets. Presumably, you might follow that up by going down there - where all the materials are. I'm not sure it's necessary, but having synthesis for probes wouldn't be a major inconvenience that I can see.

What do you want that FdL for? - you can switch to armoured pp/thermal spread. way more heat efficient and not that easy to shoot out - I'd go for long range sensors if you do a lot of haz res - you should at least add one, better two resistance augmented boosters, skip the point-defence

You're acting as if credits are a finite resource. That is, if other CMDR's have a bunch then it is taking them away from you. Just checking Coriolis, it takes 22 mil to take a T&, A rate the FSD and D rate everything else, then fill it with cargo bays. Rebuy is 1 mil. I think that prevents it from being so cheap that a CMDR in a sidewinder could do it within the first couple of game sessions. Other cheaper ships could be used as well (hauler/ adder/ t6). The missions could be the same ones from the mission board, maybe with reduced pay and a set time of how long it will take for your fleet ship to complete. Rewards could be based on trade rank, % chance of failure, and how long it will take to complete. The point is that if you don't have a lot of cash, then send the ships on low risk low reward missions, and build slowly. If one has the money to build a fleet of T9s, then good for them. I think setting a maximum number on the ships would be necessary (~20ish?). This would absolutely benefit...

Try a pair of plasma chargers on any ship you like, you can two shot the scouts. Stop any maneuvering thrust for the last few seconds of the shot and you'll hit far more often (works for me anyway), you'll also get hit more often. Swings and roundabouts.

ok let me ask you a few questions, before I throw my opinion in here. to point 1: 1. does this change improve the gameplay or is it just there to satisfy immersion? 2. How does the efficiency goal fit in with the proposed changes? point 2: 1. this begs the question how does the efficiency goal fit in? if you just automatically launch them to perfect locations does the efficiency goal make any sense anymore?

This week I have mostly been scouting/practicing for the Truckers Up Teide in-game SRV mountain climbing event taking place throughout the day on Sunday 11th November. Today however I decided to chase the shadow which came racing down the mountain and see if I could beat it to the neighbouring mountain.

I only used jumponium once when I got slightly stuck. It's not really worth using regularly because you'll waste far more time gathering materials.
