Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

You have to be careful in busy ports.
This explains what is going on...*
The traffic control system doesn't have enough processing capacities to cope with a large number of ships moving around in and around the station. And also explains these near accidents I have encountered. They all happened during rush hour, where a lot of ships were entering and leaving the station.

*: At least partly, as there seems to be another issue with part of the thruster system. Although, I wonder, does this thruster issue also occur during manual flight?

I already have a Type 6 in my fleet, as I used that back in 2015 for trading. As it's only small though I guess I'll just hang onto it as a collector's item. :p

Maybe a Cutter then, but there was a post here a few weeks back about a problem with the ADC in that ship, with it crashing into walls and whatnot when docking with and leaving mailbox stations, meaning you have to do that manually (maybe just leaving one of those stations and entering works ok, not sure.)

Anyway, is that Cutter bug still there does anyone know, or has FDev fixed it now?

EDIT: Looks like I need an Imperial Navy rank of Duke to buy a Cutter so looks like I'll need a Type 9 for now...
The issue with the Cutter and other drift prone ships and the ADC is still there, it is probably due to the lateral thrusters being less powerful now which can be demonstrated on surprisingly low gravity planets by all sorts of ships drifting down to the ground if not in level flight. The Cutter can take an age to autodock on a Carrier as it keeps overshooting unless you have flown in close to the pad and got it slowed down before engaging the computer.

The T9 is an ideal Tritium transfer vehicle much cheaper than the Cutter only a few tonnes less capacity and for the short distances that should be involved the Cutters speed and range advantage doesn’t really count.

I never use autolaunch (I don't have Advance DC fitted in any ship) - there is no problem in manually undocking an Imperial Cutter - perfectly controllable (as shown in my videos).
Actually, I don't have the Advance version fitted in any of my ships either and always leave stations manually. In fact back in 2015 I didn't bother with any kind of docking computer at all and did all entering and leaving manually.

These days though I have the Standard version fitted on them all, because I enjoy not having to fiddle around trying to land on the correct pad, especially after I'm tired after a long trip and like to just sit back and let the auto do its work. :)

That was what made me wonder in the first place.
The plot thickens...
There is another issue too and that is that the DCs no longer change PD pips. So maybe if you set ENG to 4 before using your DC that might help?
Interesting. I know that, in the museum, the ADC changes the pips to 4 SYS / 2 ENG / 0 WEP on closing in on the mailslot.
The same settings are used on departure, with returning to the player selected settings after completing the launch process.

But if this doesn't happen anymore, it would make sense to try this.

Well, that's a result so far anyway. I still haven't moved my carrier anywhere at all from the system it was placed in after I bought it, but I just checked Carrier Management and found I could enable both Vista and Cartographics, so although I still haven't visited any of the stations in this system it looks like at least one of them has Carrier Admin.

Not only that, but one of the moons in this system has two bios on it, Bacterium and Fonticulua and when I went there I got a Codex on both. (y)

In my experience, EVERY large ship does. Just about every single time my Anaconda goes into a slot they'll bang the top. Doesn't hurt, just a few shield points, but there it is.

Oddly, it always seems to be the bottom that hits on the T9.
In my experience, it got much worse with U14 to the point that I've turned off automated landing and launch and now I manually land, dock, launch on all my ships...

The, new to me, X52 makes this so much better than using the keyboard for throttle...

I've been on the fence about whether or not to get a HOTAS. Part of me just likes the ease of keyboard and mouse, but a really big part of me wants to give that a try.
I used to have a Microsoft Force-Feedback joystick that I used for ED, Flight Sim and other progs and loved it, but sadly it went U/S after several years of good use. I now have a HOTAS that I bought recently but found that until I get a bigger desk I have no room for it along with all the gubbins it comes with. So I just use keyboard and mouse for now but actually, now I'm used to it I quite like it, so might never get around to using the HOTAS anyway...:ROFLMAO:

Re the ship I'm planning to use for carrying tritium to the carrier, as I mentioned I can't get a Cutter right now as I don't have the rank and was going to get a T9. However, I've been reading that the T9 is very vulnerable to pirates so decided not to get one of those, at least for now anyway.

So I just now bought a Python for carrying the tritium and it's currently on its way to the carrier from the station where I bought it. Does anyone here have a good loadout at all for the Python, so I can use it for carrying the tritium with as big a cargo capacity as possible but at the same time still have a good defensive capability? Thanks!

You know, I was hesitant. I even asked on here somewhere if it made that much of a difference.

Now I can report that it does...dramatically...having the throttle now, I wonder how I even flew before...

Picture this...your hand is on the throttle, without moving your hand you have access to:
  • fwd & rev thrust on analog high resolution axis with a button to change direction (fwd/rev) - I personally thought I would not like this but it is very nice now that I'm used to it.

  • up, down, left and right thrust via index finger hat switch

  • Flight assist toggle (this button is a wheel, not sure if the wheel is bound to anything)

  • Boost button

  • Radar Zoom in/out slider

  • Combat/Analysis mode toggle button

  • Free Look toggle button

  • 2 additional unused wheel axes with centering
Its a muscle memory nightmare but I'm working through it and getting better every time I fly...

I only touch the mouse and keyboard on foot or using the mouse for appropriate UI screens (galmap, sysmap, station services, terminal, etc...)

The default mapping for the X52 is pretty nice. I just plugged it in and everything was mapped. Becasue I don;t have it programmed, I have to have its control panel applet "properties" open (in Devices and Printers) so that all of the buttons work. I can resolve this by programming the HOTAS but it looks long and tedious, so, maybe one day I "might" get around to it...

Yes I guess I ought to get a bigger ship, even if only to use for transporting tritium to the carrier.

I use either a T9 (this is Big Tony in action) or a Cutter. Both are well armed and shielded and can take on pirates if needed.

When hauling the tritium it's fun to park your carrier really close to the selling station -- orbiting the same body as the station. You can make the trip in just a few moments, and it's rather interesting to dodge the planet each way. There's barely time for pirates to interdict you, also.

Have fun. And remember I told you the cargo transfer is IN YOUR RIGHT PANEL. In your ship, that is. Everyone searches for it the first time!

I second this message...though I also usually find a friend I can pay to help me deliver Tritium tomy carrier (IE: Set up buy order for Tritium on the carrier at 200% of market average AND limit carrier access to Friends Only or Friends & Squadron to keep out 3rd parties)

Maybe I'll get a T9 as well then. And yes I did think of parking the carrier as close to the selling station as possible - right next to it if I can - for the reasons you mentioned. Also in a high security system with a reasonable tritium price as well if I can find one.

What loadout do you use for the T9 for carrying the tritium? (I haven't yet done the Guardian grind btw, but I guess increased jump range isn't important to start with as it will all be in the same system.)

Cheers!

I have 2 T9s...

My all round cargo transporter/pirate fighter: Ruby Rhod - https://s.orbis.zone/lmxl (this is the one I use for hauling large quantities of everything, and killing pirates, when they interdict me...)

And my Platinum Hotspot laser miner: Gold Digger - https://s.orbis.zone/lmxk
