Spring dlc Speculation 2023

Of course, not all of our favourites will fit into one pack, so lets be a little patienced and focus on what we will be getting :) Fossa will be an amazing addition. A very unique carnivoran and we will be able to build a nice Madagascar section with the 3 lemurs athat are currently available.

Dream scenario:
Explorers/Tropical Pack
  • Two Toed Sloth
  • Fossa
  • Red River Hog
  • Lar Gibbon
  • Lorikeets OR Macaws (WE)

Nightmare:
Islands Pack
  • Fossa
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Kiwi
  • Tree Kangaroo
  • Lord Howe Island Stick Insect (E)

Not that the Islands Pack is a NIGHTMARE, I just have no need for any of those animals right now and it’d be predictable…

A Tropical scenery Pack or even an Explorers Pack like suggested would be a real surprise, and I’m definitely here for that!!!

Now all we need is the Radiated Tortoise and I'd be content with Madagascar representation

With the hints in mind, my final guess before tomorrow would be a tropical Islands-themed scenery pack. Obviously one of the four habitat slots will be the Fossa. If its indeed Islands, two more slots will definitely go to the Tasmanian Devil and the Kiwi (both easy to achieve and really requested species). The fourth slot is a bit more of a toss up since Frontier always likes to pull at least one random pick. My guess is it’ll be another small mammal (Frontier unfortunately isn’t gonna give us more than one habitat bird or reptile in a pack, sigh). Tree Kangaroo seems like a good fourth candidate, but if Frontier wants to take an easier-route (they very likely may) I’m guessing it’ll be an islands-based ungulate. Whether that be anoa, mouse deer, serow, etc. is anyone’s guess.

Pretty much certain it’ll be a scenery pack though because of the new SEA architectural pieces in the background of the stream.

All this said and with all we now know in mind, I’m feelin a little “mhem” about the pack if I’m honest. Not making any final statements about the DLC till its revealed in full, but with Frontier’s previous roster lineups in-mind and considering what’s likely and not likely from them, this DLC feels kind of “cookie-cutter” to their formula. Like almost all their previous scenery packs, it’ll likely come with some useful pieces, but also a fair share that are likely way too themed to be used in more practical ways. And as for the roster, it’ll be almost all, if not all, mammals - with a lean towards carnivores. Likely leaving a lot more to be desired, for me anyways.

I think we are getting the "Exploration pack" and the other animals can be a total surprise yet.
Oh, there it is. That’s how they tie together islands and rainforests. I’m really feeling this. Some possibilities, off the top of my head:
  • Lar gibbon
  • Sulawesi crested macaque
  • Tree kangaroo species
  • Visayan warty pig
  • Bornean bearded hog
  • Radiated tortoise
  • Coquerel's sifaka
Absolute shame that I can’t come up with a way for South America to get literally anything with a strict island rainforest lineup, though.

They can explore the Amazon river on a boat too...

Which I also think is likely that they will. That is why I don't mind waiting a bit longer if it makes room for something unexpected but good now.
But at what point is it appropriate to add the devil so that it does not take up slots from animals that are less likely to make it in later on? Why can other animals that are high on the metawishlist be added (like the fossa) but not the devil? I'm super biased of course, but this argument just doesn't hold much water to me.
