Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I haven't played in a few days, hauling equipment to the delta, seems they have a gopher problem with the levees.
...meanwhile getting closer to the mystery cluster - less than 500LY i think:

*aha - found it in the star map - it's only ~250LY away...
Pretty nice jump range, FSD injection, perhaps. I have a cluster of blue-white giants at the end of my current plot that's about 500Ly across with thousands of giants in it, should be interesting when I arrive there.

I was wondering, while I'm waiting for carrier to wake up, if it's still A Thing to have to wait 15 minutes for a jump. I know there's "technical" reasons why it was made this way but they must have some way around this limitation by now. Perhaps it's intentional for "Immersion" purposes - space is big etc. so let's put stuff in place to make it feel that way. Dunno...
As long delays to jump still happen when too many carriers try to move at the same time I think the technical reasons still stand, there are only so many servers they can afford to run after all, especially with how expensive the hamster wheels have got recently.

I see, yes. And those hamsters probably want a pay rise in line with inflation.

Hmm. Just turned HDR off in Windows and ED actually looks better.
Is this the setting you mean?

Just targeted that system in the galmap to get an idea of whether i was heading in the right direction - that marker system was actually 2 jumps away for my 50LY Phantom - though i then found the cluster in the galmap once i'd confirmed the direction... it was 5 jumps / 225 LY to the first star i visited there - the cluster is mostly type B's, including V622 Persei where there are two landable HMC's with Anemones ...and 1.4 and 2.6G

What I will be up to...

Expect lots of mayhem, a few rebuys and some of the best sights in the Bubble.

Nice. How those buckyball folks do what they do is beyond me!

1) get in the ship
2) fly fast

everything else like don't crash, don't burn up, don't get thrown into prison, don't fly the wrong way, don't tease the Thargoids, don't get blown up etc. is more or less optional. People have done these (and more) in the course of a race before. Although taking a shortcut via the rebuy screen is usually frowned upon - you should finish the course in the same ship you started it.

I've actually entered a couple of the races myself, although it's been some time ago now.

I tried to go fast.

It seemed fast to me.

It wasn't fast.

So mostly I just watch, now.

But who knows, I might get the itch again, someday, and cast my hat into the proverbial ring.

Hmm. Now where'd I put my hat, anyway?

Mmmm...
I sent a support request in just now.
There I was in my alt account just having bought 5 Caustic Tissue Samples from Quain's fleet carrier to take to a rescue ship to unlock the caustic sink launcher. Requested docking at the rescue ship and my cargo of 5 samples was mysteriously ejected into space. I wasn't using a caustic resistant cargo rack, but the caustic damage suffered by the ship was minimal and did not affect the cargo hatch - 100% health.
It takes a few hours to collect those 5 samples which I don't mind if I get a result out of it or lose them due to my own mistakes. I removed the jettison all cargo key binding a long time ago to avoid that kind of mistake.
No idea what happened, but the journal file shows them ejected from the cargo hold.

As a one time favout FDev support put 5 caustic tissue samples back in my cargo hold. The guess is caustic damage must have affected the cargo rack just at the moment I got docking clearance at the rescue ship.
Don't carry 5 caustic samples without having a class 4 corrosion resistant cargo rack first. And that will need 16 meta alloys among other things to unlock....

It can also be caused by leaving the launcher running, because Steam counts the hours the Launcher is active, not the game itself.
I always turn off the launcher, Steam (click chevron by clock, right click Steam, left click exit), Origin or Epic Games. I still fold proteins and need to restart the app after I'm done playing, it uses both my 3080 and 2080 plus my Threadripper 3960x, puts off a lot of heat which is nice in the winter but sucks in the summer. I started playing Horizons in March 2021 and didn't start Odessey until after reaching Colonia. Exploration is way easier in Horizons for me.

Okay, I was looking at you're fuel consumption, fuel gauge in the screen shot and it looked like a lot of fuel ready to be used. My max non-injected consumption is 8 tons, the only way I can go further is FSD injection which I've only done twice.

Gosh, I think I actually moved my mercenary rank progress line a bit further to the right today... and finally went to tier 2 in Inara with it. I'm now en route to a medium CZ to see if they are easier now I've got a couple of skillz under my belt from doing only highs.

Then I want to try a high CZ to see if I can crack 10mCR in bonds. Could be a challenge.

EDIT Yep, mediums are too easy now. I'm scaring myself. Perhaps I've done too much fighting.
