Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

Pondering more about what would actually make sense as a building theme and...it actually might be a farmyard pack, right? There are a lot more immediately obvious props (even if we got vague gestures towards them in the Aquatic Pack) and it's something different that could attract the interest of new players. Goat/highland cow/chicken/donkey (punting on the exhibit Q - could be a case of a fifth habitat animal, or it could be something farm-adjacent like a corn snake)--no new rigs with the bulk of effort being put in to new feeding/petting animations.
Good theme, I don’t think it’s as important as a North America building set though. We can already build barns and farm like structures, we’re just missing things like hay nails and props like that. Animals you listed Im not really interested in. The goat is good, but everything else for me is just eh. I prefer the idea of children’s zoo animals. I would obviously love the feeding and petting though.

Walkthrough exhibits work for small birds that are held in large flocks (where the looped animations wouldn't look nearly as bad), not for eagles or owls or macaws. Think budgies.
Owls I think would work since they don’t move too much, they would just fly from one perch to the other and have this between 4 perches and add a couple enrichments. Add all of these in a loop and I think it would work.

Or just ban both. Animals that we know will work with the games mechanics is what should be on the wishlists. Birds that are suitable for the WTE are allowed, but no others like birds of prey until we get a non walkthrough exhibit.
I mean there are bird of prey walkthroughs out there. Besides that a parrot can do just about the same damage to you than a hawk or owl of compareable size

What is a North American building set, though? The base game New World theme and the Conservation pack cover modern American architecture, and almost all of the animal suggestions I've seen for a temperate pack suggest an Oceanian, European, or Asian bent.

Log Cabin style, more stone and horizontal log wall set, along with a bunch of new timber and log pieces making it more convenient for building detailed wooden structures. That’s true about the animals, but with the Tropical pack it had Asian architecture and only had 2 Asian animals. I would go with Tasmanian Devil, American Black Bear, Mute Swan, Wild Boar and Hummingbirds (WTE)

Cabins and camping would add a rustic theme. There is also architecture associated with many Native American tribes, which are not represented whatsoever. I've also heard Wild West thrown around, which seems unlikely but fun to me.

Moving on from Manateegate....what would people's thought be on if the pack were a woodlands type of animal pack that covered both Temperate and Taiga, if we were to get both the Spectacled and American Black Bear in the pack? Not saying that's my guess, just gauging reaction.

I view both bears as critical additions, but the ABB is the one that I would personally use much more frequently for both local rep and morphs. I would be happy to get them in the same pack or in back-to-back packs.

Depends what the other animals are. I’ll be fine if we get both bears, i like one, I’m ok with the other. But they would never realistically be in a pack together.

Agree, I really would like both (sorry, Sloth Bear is a distant 3rd)....I'd like the Spectacled Bear more because it would represent South America, and is a bit more unique looking, and is the bear in my local zoo. But...and I may be wrong here, but I kind of feel like the American Black Bear is more iconic to North America than the Spectacled Bear is to South America? Like...as much as I want a Wolverine, the ABB is probably the animal that most people would think North America is missing the most at this point.

@CharlieXGaming we say they would never realistically be in a pack together, but after two African Antelopes in one pack I wouldn't say it's completely impossible. as for a pack, using my "final guess"woodlands idea:
Wolverine
Tasmanian Devil
Kiwi
Wild Boar
Painted Turtle (Exhibit) (okay really I wish for the Bald Eagle but that's taking in exhibit birds which we can't just assume will be a thing)
American Black Bear (animal pack addition)
Spectacled Bear (animal pack addition)
Wisent (animal pack addition)

To be fair, it does have “American” in the name

As a North American on the somewhat underrepresented east coast, I 100% feel that the ABB is the most obvious absence from the NA roster. I wasn't on the forums at the time and was unaware of the wishlist rankings, but I thought it was a shoe-in for the North America pack. I expected/was hoping for ABB, cougar, moose, and prairie dogs if it were a scenery pack, and I thought the beaver, alligator, bighorn sheep, and perhaps wolverine (I'd forgotten about the sea lion) also had decent chances if it was an animal pack.
If you were wondering...

Essentials:
  • I would say ABB is the #1 missing. They are the common bear in our zoos, and a great option for morphs. They are our main exclusive carnivore.
  • Wolverine is #2, but its extreme popularity and relevance to other continents brings it awfully close.
  • NA is the only continent in the game with 0 birds, so I would prioritize at least one habitat bird (turkey for me at #3) and two if we get waterfowl (wood duck is awesome and kept in quite a few EAZA zoos, too).
  • Sea Otter (#4) is the only otter that I could easily distinguish from the others, has different behaviors, and is very cute. The NA river otter is popular in some circles, but I think the sea otter is more needed and higher on the wishlist.
  • The musk ox (#5) is iconic and popular and sort of represents other continents, too.
  • Walrus is (#6) and only that low for ethical concerns and low captive presence, but it is very popular and iconic.
Very important/Borderline essential:
  • Bighorn Sheep: iconic for the Sonoran desert and has a strong cultural presence. It seems like our ibex. I would not want it as much if we got the Mountain goat. This is one of my favorite options for a "clone" pick. Overall, I would say a desert goat is essential.
  • Alligator Snapping Turtle: It would be cool in a habitat if possible. I don't need them for the game to feel complete, though.
  • Wapiti or White Tailed Deer: One is impressive and iconic; the other is filler for pretty much every region. NA could use a deer.
  • Collared Peccary: To me, a peccary is more essential for SA rep, but it is also nice for Sororan Desert Rep.
Still kind of Strong wants:
  • Sonoran Desert Canid (or ringtail): The red wolf, grey fox, and coyote are all possible. Once we get one, I would not need the others. A ringtail would be an acceptable substitution, but the region needs a small carnivore.
  • Bobcat: Other little cats should be prioritized, but they are very common in zoos here, and it would be nice if my continent could get one of its little cats. It lives in every biome except tropical and maybe tundra.
  • The other deer: I like them both for different reasons and would welcome both.
  • Ribbon or Harp seal: They are unpopular, but I want to see a flashy arctic seal.
Nice to haves if support continues:
  • North American Porcupine: My main pick for a new world porcupine would be the prehensile-tailed Brazilian, but this little guy is also cute. We have a lot of small mammals already.
  • Canadian Goose: Not a zoo animal at all for me, but some from other countries want it. It is iconic for Canada.

Worcester MA (pronounced Wu-ster, look it up so you can hear it. just so you don’t offend any locals)
I actually knew this because I love Worcester sauce
Cape Cod MA if you’re looking for beaches
Old Cape Cod. That old Cape Cod

Anything in Texas I should do if I ever go?
Totally. Depends where you go, though.

If you're in Houston area, definitely check out the zoo.
Crocodile Encounters wasn't too bad; they have Blanco the leucistic alligator.
NASA as well.
We also have Moody Gardens, in Galveston, as well as Galveston itself (you don't go to Galveston for the beach, you go for the ambience).
Corpus Christi was nice last time I was there. Northeast Texas is nice because it's the Piney Woods, so it's usually fresher than Houston area.

By the way, might seem controversial to other Texans, but Buccees isn't that amazing. It's overated, and this coming from a born and raised Texan. The only reason I say to go is to tell somebody you went, I guess

This is pretty much my reasoning. It's more North American to me than the grizzly and polar bears, to be honest. When I think of an American bear, I think of the ABBA

Edit: ABB, not ABBA

from reading someone post earlier, I do t know why this idea came to kind to me today.
A worlds fair theme. A chance to introduce new food/drinks stalls. Festival and fair type of theme. Banners and flags. The animals are from very different parts of the world.
1. Spectacled bears. SA
2. Tasmanian devils. AU
3. Capercaillie. EU
4. Markhor. Central east
E or WE: something from China or a WE koi pond idea that I’ve had for a while.

I agree with this. A farm/children's zoo/domestics pack, if done right, could bring a lot of new props to the table that are unique and much needed into the game. Potential for a decent wall set, new mesh pieces, fences, and such too!

Reflecting on it, the one "challenge" I see with a pack like this would be how divisive the animals would be. Even with new guest interactions, feeding, and so forth that might be implemented for the animals I think Frontier would need to be very careful with the species they selected. I could see a certain portion of the player base not buying the DLC purely because they wouldn't want the domestics (even if they went relatively "exotic" which would definitely be my preference). Mind you, I'm sure Frontier would take this into consideration when picking the species but... It would still be a bit precarious.

It would have a lot of potential, especially if they did the free update "right" but I think it would be risky.

Good theme, I don’t think it’s as important as a North America building set though. We can already build barns and farm like structures, we’re just missing things like hay nails and props like that.
I could get behind either. But from an animal perspective, I would definitely prefer something temperate/North America-leaning. And arguably, some of the more useful things I'd hope for out of a "farm" pack could be worked into a North America scenery set (e.g., clapboard wall set, colonial-style stone walls and rubble).
