If we are to get one more canis?

Which would you choose???? (yes, I guess "NONE" is an acceptable answer) and how would you rank the rest?
Right now, in order of most to least wanted on the wishlist there are:
  1. Coyote
  2. Black-backed Jackal
  3. Ethiopian Wolf
  4. Red Wolf
  5. Mexican Wolf
  6. Golden Jackal
  7. African Wolf
  8. Italian Grey Wolf
  9. Side-striped Jackal
  10. Arabian Wolf
Bonus points if you could add why.

1. Golden Jackal
It's the only Canis that might be considered essential by some, so I'll throw it in as it is somewhat interesting. If you throw in Caninae instead of just canis then I would have the Bush Dog (or Short Eared Dog) higher, as it's just a funky lil guy and it's also another South American Animal, and then I would also prefer the Black Backed or Side Striped Jackal over the Golden Jackal

I would go with the Black-backed Jackal since it covers a big chunk of Africa (so far the only other canid in those areas is the Wild Dog), is so unique to be less related to members of its genus than the Dhole and wild dog, it has some cultural significance (being a jackal) and its very pretty (in a way a good compliment to the wild dog and almost as colorful!)
To rank the rest imo:
  • African Wolf (most wanted aside from Black-backed Jackal)
  • Golden Jackal
  • Ethiopian Wolf
  • Red Wolf=Coyote=Mexican Wolf
  • Side-striped Jackal
  • The other subspecies

IMO A south American wild dog (either Bush or short-eared) and an African jackal would definitely finish the Canids for me.
and that's coming from a dog-lover! 🦊 🐶🐩🐕

Oh also while looking up different Canis and Canidae members, I saw that the Timber Wolf is possibly not even a Gray Wolf but a different species (Canis lycaon) or even a ssp of the Red Wolf, even though I think some translations for it in-game in other languages refer to it as the Mackenzie Gray Wolf so that's odd

Oh yeah, and it's funny that the Bush Dog's closest relative is the Maned Wolf, both live in SA but are opposites in features, and Jackals are pretty well known African animals so having one would make sense

While id say none because we dont need more, i see why thats a very boring answer so if i had to choose one it would be the red wolf.
In my humble opinion, the timber wolf sucks and really should get a model update + a name change to either generic grey wolf or european wolf so having the smaller reddish red wolf with a great conservation story for NA would be a fine trade of.
Otherwise while im not against a jackal, they also dont excite me and a coyote or any of the random african species not kept in zoos are active dont wants.

Yeah, Canis genetics is really weird! Even the Dire Wolf was once thought to be a wolf (like the Timber and Grey Wolves) but was found to be even less related to Wolves than the Side-striped and Black-backed JAckals...

I think a jackal is preferrable to a red wolf personally since we already have two North American canids to choose from. but I do get your reasoning for wanting the Red Wolf. AND I guess it would be cool to have the both European and Red Wolves. In case its not too clear, I want another Serengeti type canid... :ROFLMAO: I'm so spoiled... I should be content with what we do have!

I mean, technically we have Three African Canids... So technically North America and Africa are both complete... I guess...

While I don't consider any specific canid essential, it would be weird to get support for much more than a year without getting a new doggo.
Clear Favorites:
  1. Black Backed Jackal: Unique in appearance and taxonomy. Very welcome
  2. Tanuki/Raccoon Dog: Tom Nook and a favorite of a few community members. Very welcome
Still Cool:
  1. Grey Fox: unique taxonomy, climbs trees, cute, and local
  2. Bush Dog: unique though a bit odd-looking, SA rep
  3. Bat Eared Fox: unique in taxon and appearance
On my radar/Maybe somedays:
  1. Iberian Wolf or split Timber into Grey and Eurasian wolf?
  2. Coyote/Red Wolf: maybe we'll get one someday
  3. Crab eating fox/Culpeo/Something else from SA: SA rep and canid taxonomy group
  4. Tibetan Fox: funny face
  5. Golden Jackal: different enough from the others, I guess

Bush Dog and Raccoon Dog are basically the only ones that I actively want. After that I would not mind Bat-Eared Fox and Black-Backed Jackal.
Cant say I care much about the rest.

While canids are nowhere near my top priority for new carnivores, these are my top choices:

1. Black-backed jackal - I have seen these at a couple of places before (my local zoo, Colchester, had a group of them for years and I also remember them at Amersfoort Zoo in the Netherlands), and they have recently been brought back to the UK at Hamerton Zoo. I think they are very pretty animals and wouldn't mind seeing them at all.
2. Bush dog - Colchester Zoo has now got a lovely enclosure with a big breeding pack of bush dogs - they are amazing little animals and would add quite a bit to a South American zone in the game, as they would provide a true Amazonian rainforest species to complement the grassland-dwelling maned wolf.
3. Iberian wolf - I remember when Colchester Zoo had these guys as well. They are quite different in appearance to many other wolves, with a very rich brown coat. They are one of the wolf types managed in a European breeding programme, and would be my favoured option for an updated wolf model.

And then, considerably lower down the list...

4. Mainland raccoon dog - Only seen the species once (my college had a couple of them in their animal care department), and I personally found them to be rather tatty looking and uninteresting creatures. Still, they are around so I would begrudgingly accept them.

I choose the black backed jackal.

So...

1. Black backed jackal
2. Ethiopian wolf
3. Mexican wolf
4. Indian wolf
5. Golden jackal
6. Coyote

I don't care about the rest.
