Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yes we all love hearing the good word of Chris Roberts.

But will his great acts of creation be reserved for 'this year +1', as per usual?

In other words: Are you sticking with your current predictions for 2023? ;)

As you are short on believers here, I'm pleased to offer you something to discuss in january 2024, my prediction for 2023
  • SQ42 beta end of 2023, early 2024
  • Vulkan late this year
  • Second system late 2023, early 2024
  • iCache a huge mess at start, good tech at the end of 2021 PES released, sorry to not let this one
  • real components in ships
  • power management in ships
  • some animals and créatures on planets (no clue about this but I've a good feeling about it 😊)

Ah. We're at the 'absence of things is good news!' stage.

I guess this had to happen eventually.
Terra and Magnus are complex systems with a lot of assets to create. The other systems are way simplier.
Not seeing them on the starmap can be a sign that CIG has started the work on all the presents JP.
Some hopes are put also on Nyx in the Pyro system as the main assets already exist.

Any idea when it will even get to beta, let alone release? (as nowhere does anyone have any idea on actual progress to a released product)

When the SC perpetual alpha is eventually shuttered, either because CIG itself shuts down or else because they decide there's no more whale juice to squeeze and they try to rinse and repeat on a shiny new project, the exact same people who have been crying "alpha" the entire time (assuming there are any left) will suddenly turn around and claim that "actually it was released, they delivered the game, you've been playing it for the last X years, of course CIG's right to move on, you can't expect them to work on it forever."

Maddest things ? CIG releasing systems ?

Hopefully guesstimating 'secret build' asset workflow based on the production of some other assets. Daydreaming of a domino rally of technical advances because they updated some UI...

And all this while the most transparent of dev houses has ongoing Pyro work still on the actual 'progress tracker'...

It's copium on stilts. Striding confidently over some very inconvenient facts...

Wrong again. Do you not even follow CIG's official development plans? I'm so disappointed in you, but not surprised; fanboys are literally the worst, even to themselves. Cult anyone?

No wonder the biggest SC content creators are mocking "copium" enjoyers.

3.21 contains the first iteration of Replication Layer separation. Assuming that will be stably achieved within one patch cycle is naïve; PES took 3.18 to 3.20 to get stable before RLS could happen in 3.21.

Next, CIG want to achieve Shard Migration/Transfer, and get that stable.

After those are implemented and stable, Server Meshing will begin testing.

Seeing as we all love sources to educate those confidently-incorrect folks that are unable to do research, here we are:

Hold on. Did chris just replace the word "server" with "shard" to describe how it has always worked but with a shiny new label?

Having active cards on the tracker for Pyro does not prevent it from being added to the PU. SM and replication layer only block Pyro from the PU.
Stanton has been released several years ago despite having several works ongoing at the time (and a lot of other works added afterthat).

Sure, but it, along with the ongoing asset work in Stanton, suggests teams probably aren't burrowing away on other avant garde systems en masse...

And it all just scampers like a happy puppy past the hurdle of SM. Which needs to be proved out and scaled up. (And then, according to the 'Road to PES' plan, needs to be broken apart and remade again for 'V2'... to get to the actual end game scale that they require).

As CIG have proved time and again:
Art before tech is meaningless.

Worth remembering at Citcon perhaps ;)

hehe - seems maybe Chris has been watching this thread all along :)

(Though I've yet to be proved correct about the SQ42 release date 🤞 )

They announced SQ42 was coming soon in 2014, 2015, 2016, and in later years as well. They announced jump gates as coming in 4.0 way back in 2016(?) and have teased server meshing on and off for years.

None of this is new, its just the same old sh...

This is probably the most honest statement I have seen from CIG...

The number of Citizens Conned is probably going to be epic!

It's gonna be interesting to see where the community settles on the hype/salt continuum.

This is gonna be Pyro-con V4 after all. Even with something probably arriving downstream this time (in semi-broken 'Static Meshing' fashion), it's still gonna be a lot more 'trust me bro' tap-dancing on the day.

My guess is that the eventual delivery is gonna tilt that see-saw saltwards over time for a bunch of players. It's odds on that CIG won't have any gameplay that really leverages multiple systems or the enlarged playspace. The refuelling mechanic will still be mainly jank. The economy won't be up and running to any fiendish degree. The AI still won't be that performant, barring meshing miracles. And Pyro itself is designed to be a griefer free-for-all ;)

(And woe betide CIG if those server handovers aren't seamless ;))

The roleplayers will roll on. The emergent gameplay merchants too probably. I reckon a fair few other old guard will hit their 'enough's enough' wall in 2024 though...

I guess Chris is reliant on Mark Hamill coming to the rescue...

(And noob cash. All that lovely noob cash...)
