What's a Twinkie?

Sure, you can have as many Twinkies as you want Twinkies as long as you keep going to the store for them! The alternative is having the Twinkie Factory and Supply Chain in your bedroom.
I'll venture a wild guess here and say a hundred acres of wheat, several of palm and others of cacao, a hundred cows for the milk (and their pastures), 250 people, 24 trucks and a facility full of machinery as tall as a two-story building (and I'm ignoring the plastic wrapping here) do not fit into any property of yours or place you plan to eat a Twinkie (play the game).
You can play solo online because the game only has to go to get you the Twinkie every now and then. But your PC, no matter how big it is, can't contain the Twinkie factory.
It's that simple: they are not going to make a pocket sized Twinkie Factory because then they'd have to make worse twinkies in order to pay the R&D for the pocket factory. It's not good for business or effective. They thought they could, but have realized they can't. Go for your Twinkies to the store.
The brigands already have my money. I am still here because of the knife in my back.
I'll just leave this here...

I bought in to the 75$ beta and this does not affect me really as net connection is a non issue for me, that said when I first came to these forums before I even bought beta or made an account I was really surprised at how many of the old school people that backed this game and made it possible seemed to be into the offline mode part of it.
Have to say IMHO this seems like a slap in the face to those that made this game get off the ground in the very first place and while this change doesn't affect me I am quite disgusted by David Braben ATM for the choice not to offer refunds because some "tested an incomplete game".
Another thing that seems clear to me now is that this community has devolved into any other mud slinging mmo community because of how this issue was handled by the powers that be and that's a damn shame.
Well, I'm someone, and I mind; the "smoking gun" passages of text/posts from FD staffers have been linked to and quoted verbatim numerous times in this very thread.Would someone mind pointing out where it says there will be an offline mode?

How will single player work? Will I need to connect to a server to play?
The galaxy for Elite: Dangerous is a shared universe maintained by a central server. All of the meta data for the galaxy is shared between players. This includes the galaxy itself as well as transient information like economies. The aim here is that a player's actions will influence the development of the galaxy, without necessarily having to play multiplayer.
The other important aspect for us is that we can seed the galaxy with events, often these events will be triggered by player actions. With a living breathing galaxy players can discover new and interesting things long after they have started playing.
Update! The above is the intended single player experience. However it will be possible to have a single player game without connecting to the galaxy server. You won't get the features of the evolving galaxy (although we will investigate minimising those differences) and you probably won't be able to sync between server and non-server (again we'll investigate).

If I missed the bit where it says there will definitely be an offline mode then I will admit I'm wrong but in the minimum specs to play an internet connection is listed.
From the faq:Would someone mind pointing out where it says there will be an offline mode?
I mean ACTUALLY says there WILL be, not hopes, dreams and wishes or maybes in a forum.
Lots of crying and talk about integrity and how everyone has been shafted.
I can't see anywhere on the kickstarter page where it says there will be an offline mode and never made the assumption there would be.
People are upset that there is no offline mode because they have lives etc etc but from what I can tell they misunderstood the difference between solo mode and offline Mode and are now upset because ed isn't what they thought. If they had forced you to go multiplayer and pvp then I would understand all the crying.

Top trolling. The fact is, that "lacking a feature" in this case = not actually a viable product any more, for a significant minority of the people who paid for it to be made.I seriously think a lot of you need to get a grip and get over yourselves with your first world problems and that if the worse thing that happens in your life is that a game lacks a certain feature then you are very lucky indeed.
Please, tell me how to reach this perfect world where you live where nobody every makes mistakes, it sounds wonderful.
