DLC18 discussion and predictions

The next JWE2 pack probably won’t be anything larger because they already said it’s a species pack and the shark already goes off of the dunk most likely.
I don't think that's anything to go on, TBH. The last Planet Zoo pack we got was an "animal pack" that was structured differently than any of the others. This pack is coming immediately after another one. It could be a bigger species pack. It could be a "species pack" with additional content. Patterns are out the window as far as content is concerned.

My key point is that whatever happens with JWE2 is pretty likely to influence the Planet Zoo discourse this time around. Especially if it looks to be a final pack. I'm not saying they are linked in anyway... Just that it's going to influence the discourse.

There are two words here I think you might be conflating. 'Sentience' (cognition) and 'sapiens' (as in homo sapiens).
Nope I know both those words and sapience does involve both but is neither. Sapience is a very vague term used to refer to the use of cognitive behaviours and abilities comparable to that of humans so sentience is a part of that and so is intelligence both of which as often confused for sapience. Its not the best term in the world largely isolating humanity from the rest of animal but does serve a purpose in determining what made humans different and that is largely the application of sapience. I havent read the book you recommended though I may have to check it out.

this video does a reasonable job of explaining all the different ways of defining sapience how its a very anthropomorphic terms and how it applies to other animals. It does this largely in the concept of providing evidence to a speculative evolution project. It does also mention eusociality and the distinction between learned and instinctual behaviours.

Yeah thats what i thought aswell. Felt more like warming up than an actual dlc.
I dont play the game, so idk what the general reaction was but id have been pretty bummed out by that
Surprisingly was well received, seemingly by the majority based on the EvoSquare poll.

One of them got a redesign, all of them got a glow in the dark pattern, and they interact with their source dinosaurs (aside from Spinosaurus), so there's some effort there.

Ankylodocus still can't fight back, one of the major gripes aside from the original unattractive design. I suspect it'll be remedied this update.

There's some flexibilty, the lagoon platform is part of the Aquatic species pack, but a small scenery theme is a bit of a stretch, there's not even basic signage in the packs, unlike PZ (maybe a cave or two, given the context, but a shelter would be better as a more generalised thing, rather than for 2-3 species of a DLC).

Being a Species pack, I can't really imagine more from it, carefully choosing their words to set expectations off the bat. The fact there was a special direct talk for the next DLC, and info on JWE3 just so happens to be public now, it does pretty strongly hint this is the last one, hopefully the free update makes the difference.

I love building but I'd always take an animal pack over a scenery pack. I could do with more tiny pieces, useful material pieces (net, glass, beams) flexi/mirrored reward statues and definitely more foliage, but more animals would always entice me more.

I would like a few more props like gardening boots and gloves, a few musical instruments, some museum set pieces, fossils etc. But the first thing I look at with a new pack and look forward to getting excited about are the animals.

Hey on the musical instrument note, wouldn't it be a cool update to get a new entertainment feature with small curbside bands and video theatres that we could add in to our parks? What if there could be musicians that also entertain the animals, have you seen the videos of elephants and horses rocking along to pianos and singing drums etc?
I think at this point and probably for the last couple of scenery pack we havent actually needed anymore full scenery sets this is why I actually like the barnyard pack style which is slightly less animals than an animal pack but some scenery pieces to cover random props like gardening boots and gloves. Any future packs should be in this style with some way of working in an exhibit animal to maybe getting rid of the seventh animal for it.

Oh interesting! I hadn't come across it before, thanks for teaching me a new word :) The dictionary has a couple of entries for it - 1. wisdom and 2. the ability to be self-aware. I love a good video essay, I'll check that out when I've got time. Another recco for you if you're interested in a bit of philosophy on the topic of humans and animals, Animal Liberation by Peter Singer. He coins the term 'speciesism'. He's controversial, definitely divides the crowd but I love him!

No cenozoic pack. Instead it is park manager collection. Yup it is the last pack for JWE2. Adding missing species from franchise such as microceratus and segisaurus.
I guess it's a nice way to end the game. The update is kinda lame, though; only kelp, new light, and that's about it. Walking pterosaurs had potential; after all, they already have walking animations when they exit the hatcheries, I'm sure the devs could've figured out a way to add them in general...

It does mean zookeeper collection pack is on table lol.
Honestly yeah and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what they did. A lot of the species on the meta wishlist have no connection to each other like the walrus and baboon; so doing a collection type pack makes sense.

And the fact that this is probably the last pack for JWE2 and it has the same # of species as usual, I wouldn’t expect anything more than 8 animals for the final pack for PZ.

Also “Keeper Collection Pack” has a nice ring to it.

Yeah I'd say this really leans the last DLC towards "zookeeper's collection". I do get the general idea behind it (mish-mash of bunch of different stuff), but if we have any JWE players here I'd like to know how requested were dinosaurs in the new pack? Does collection pack mean fan favorites?

I don't play JWE and am not super familiar with it, but is it thought that this is the last DLC? I mean the name kind of makes you think that.

Oh, definitely. Haha. I can't speak to how requested any of these dinosaur species are but... That pack name just feels like a catch-all for a "whatever dinosaurs" pack. Hah.

What's weird is that the pack and update don't seem to have anything to do with actual park management?

EDIT: Also? Charli was right! It's not a bigger pack, nor is it more expensive than usual. Could be the last one and they've changed the pattern. Could also be that there's more coming. I would be really curious to see what the JWE community feels about this one and if it has "final pack" vibes.

The Meg and the Microceratus were HEAVILY requested, like the Microceratus was basically the “flying birds” comments on every post of PZ like with JWE2. Segisaurus wasn’t too requested except for when people thought we would get a JP pack for the 30 year anniversary - and the pterosaur they choose specifically was nowhere near requested but people wanted another large pterosaur in general.

Overall I think the reasoning for the theme of the JWE2 pack was to tie Microceratus and Meg in for the finale since they knew they had to include them both before the end. The other 2 were just decently popular species that they could throw in as clones - because 1 literally is an exact clone of what we already had 😭
