DLC18 discussion and predictions

So this does have final pack vibes for JWE2. After learning more about the species list, the name of the pack itself, and the new Jurassic Park game coming in 2026 it feels like it does.

I'm pretty torn right now about whether or not we might expect something similar from Planet Zoo (8-species animal pack) or if something larger might still be on the table (say, 10-species plus another ~60 piece scenery set with hopefully more flexicolor items). The two games have always been treated differently as far as the amount of content in each pack. Say what you will about the Barnyard pack but it was definitely better, in terms of both quality and quantity, than what JWE2 got around that same time. A fun new feature and a set of functionally unique species in terms of what you'd generally build for them... With a bunch of new, related scenery. Plus a new scenario!

For me, it's now dependent on when the pack comes. If it's in June? Then yeah, I think something on the more regular side of things would make sense. But if it's later than that? Bigger is definitely still possible.

I think it’s important to remember the JWE games are not Frontier’s own IP. So things could still play out differently for PZ. Not to mention all signs point to JWE3 on the horizon, it makes more sense to end things now. Though they did add some highly requested critters….
If this next PZ pack does the same as JWE2 pack and listens to the community - this could be the first animal pack not be overrun by ungulates - this could be revolutionary lol
Part of me wants to say “this is Frontier we are talking about” but you might be right. If any pack where to spread the love for other animals (monkeys, and birds) it would be a “Zookeeper Pack”.

The Meg and the Microceratus were HEAVILY requested, like the Microceratus was basically the “flying birds” comments on every post of PZ like with JWE2. Segisaurus wasn’t too requested except for when people thought we would get a JP pack for the 30 year anniversary - and the pterosaur they choose specifically was nowhere near requested but people wanted another large pterosaur in general.
So overall, the listened to the community quite a bit on this one. Pretty cool stuff.

But, do keep in mind that it's under a license, so circumstances could be different

I don't know that the licensing deal would necessarily dictate the amount of content in a given DLC. But we know that JWE2 generally gets less in their DLC and free updates. Probably because it's not their own IP. I'm just really torn now as to how things might wind up swinging as far as how much content we get...

One thing I don't think we see is a pack with more than one monkey or more than one bird (exception being if birds are the theme; but I am fully on Team: Zookeeper Pack now). Hah. Simply because of what they'd have to ignore on the meta wishlist to make that happen. Do I feel good about saying that? Not really. Do I think it's going to be our reality? Pretty likely.

So with jwe getting 2 dlcs instead of the 1 mentioned on the financial report, can we relax a bit with taking those reports as something 100% set in stone?
I don't think anybody's ever said they were set in-stone. But they're definitely key indicators of what is or isn't coming. It was very reasonable for people to assume what we did based on what past reports included (versus what this last one did not).

If we get another financial report in the summer and it makes reference to "one DLC coming later this financial year" then I'm going to assume we only have one more left, even though they don't explicitly say it's the last. We work with what we have for evidence.

but it needs more than just 8 animals and no oddballs to be anywhere close to satisfying.
then I think you’re going to be disappointed lmao just my opinion but I think you need to lower your standards. The JWE2 dlc has 3 pretty much clones and barely anything to the new update - a realistic goal for us is to get only 2 ungulates at max in the next pack lol.

Says who, though? We're all guessing at this point. What one game does doesn't necessarily have any impact of what the other does. We all based the lifespan of PlanZo on what JWE 1 and PlanCo did, but PlanZo has utterly destroyed those guesses. It's the longest building game Frontier has done, it's the most popular game, and it's where they've really listened to feedback.

JWE is completely different because they have a license, so what that series does won't impact what PlanZo does

Its still JWE2 lol. Can we stop with said narration already? Every time new report arrives Frontier say this. JWE console version simply stomps PZ.
That's still a different player base. PlanZo has had a peak of 8,000+ players on PC alone. I don't know anything about the consoles, but JWE 2's peak on PC was 4,000+
That alone should testify that the game is way more popular

Oh don't worry i know i'm going to be dissapointed. I don't really expect a larger pack with A list animals. I don't even expect more than maybe one southamerican animal. I'm just saying that for me to be satisfying it needs to be more than the regular animal pack.

I mean, it's Frontier's most successful own-IP game. But that's an important distinction! Because yeah, JWE trounces it...

That said, I do wonder how much the console version is going to bridge that gap. This next financial report has potential to be very interesting. Especially with the socks continuing to creep up again slowly.

I’ll say we have had no precedent for more than one monkey, but we have got more than one bird before. The Oceania Pack! So I think it’s possible we could get more than one, we also have never got this many birds in a row, and no one predicted the barnyard pack. Whether it was personally liked or not, it was a very popular and requested theme and has been overall positively supported.

So it feels like Frontier is listening, just in their usual way which doesn’t seem like much at times. I think what helps is monkeys and birds have been talked about for well over a year now, and birds are still being mentioned on socials. Though I mostly agree, outside of a full bird pack I won’t expect much.

My best guess is 2-3 birds, which will look like this:
  1. Secretary bird
  2. Crowned crane/ South America Bird
  3. Pelican/ Duck

Thanatosdrakon is such a frontier pick lol.
Hatzegopteryx was right there as the infinitely more popular one 😂
We laugh but really i so annoying that they always do this. I don't mind some oddballs but when there was a clear more popular alternative and that required the same amount of work it just feels like they are mocking us haha

There a lre several examples in PZ.

Frontier is always gonna frontier lol. I always wonder what the reasoning for things like this is? Not to be a hater but I don’t think Hatzegopteryx is popular enough to bring people to JWE3 (assuming that was the motive).

To me it’s the same as PZ, most of the popular animals are already in the game. So why do they do things like the saiga antelope instead of the blackbuck? I do like a good oddball, and the saiga is a very cool animal, but I think at times it’s a bit too much. Shoot I’ll us a more recent example: the barnyard pack. A chicken of any breed is good, and the American donkey, highland cow, and alpaca are neat. But they make the highland cow the mini variety, choose the larger donkey, and then the sheep, goat, and pigs are very unique breeds. While it’s cool to be surprised, I wish I could hear their reasoning from time to time.

Even if a dev diary came out and they said: “we chose the tamworth pigs as they are an endangered breed in the UK, and wanted to show some of our local history.” That would be cool! It would also help me understand the line of reasoning.

I’m hopeful for this next pack, but I won’t disagree with something might not be quite right. Or it can be wetlands/ grasslands and knock it out of the park.

It really seems like PZ is now getting zookeeper collection pack at last with baboon, secretary bird and tree kangaroo taken from dictionary 🤣.
Don't forget the echidna!

Aside from it having a very general theme, what evidence is there that this is a final pack? I thought the whole idea is that Frontier likes making the final packs larger and more expensive, but this otherwise just looks like it could be a normal pack to me?
