DLC18 discussion and predictions

But the effort put into each pack doesn't matter in this case imo, frontier knew both hybrids and petting zoo animals were the most controversial topics of each game but they had to add them so at least part of the community would be satisfied, that's why they saved them for near the end of support for both games.
I wonder if part of that is that the planned update was gonna take a bit of effort, so it was easier to use pre-existing rigs. Like I’m not saying the new models aren’t amazing, they are. I don’t think it’s a surprise we didn’t get something new like a bunny, which would probably have taken quite a bit of effort. Part of me wonders if the Barnyard dlc was planned due to both being highly requested, but also easier for the office to make.

Maybe they had the team work on this new dlc coming up, if it has some complicated stuff like monkeys I can see the new update also requiring fixes to the current climbing system.

Part of me has always wondered how long it takes for the whole, rigging, modeling, texturing, animating, and coding process is. I imagine they have multiple groups working at different times.

I've always thought this was part of the plan with JWE2. Get the two remaining packs done and out of the way before soft-announcing the re-upped partnership with Universal and that they've got the next Jurassic Park CSM game in the pipeline. And how do you do that? Skimp on one pack and balance that out by making the other (mostly) loaded with fan favorites.

I think it's a different scenario for the Barnyard pack as far as timing goes. There's less pressure and they've got a (relatively loose) schedule for the console DLC that they're going to need to stick to. And, TBH, the Planet Zoo community has higher expectations for content in our packs in contrast to JWE so... No sense in rushing it. They've already told us it would be out in the "coming months."

I could be wrong here, but from what we know they can create animation sets pretty quickly. And at this stage in the game, they have some decent rigs to start with. I'd imagine most of the time is spent on texturing and coding/testing all of the different in-game interactions that have to take place.

There's also the aspect of research (which is done by an entirely different team). Getting the animal sounds, determining what plants should/shouldn't be in the habitat, what enrichment items make sense, and so on. I think that's always an understated part of the process that people often forget about! Not that I think this substantially adds to the time...
But has anyone noticed the socials are very quiet? The last posted May 31st. I know they have done radio silence before, I just thought it was interesting.
Definitely quiet. But I think that's probably more due to there just not being much to say and there being a lack of a dedicated person to that team than anything else. Which is kind of a bummer TBH... I'm a little surprised they aren't trying to showcase workshop creations, hype console more, etc.

This is very random but I always really thought it would be super fun if they did tours of zoos that people uploaded to the workshop. It always felt like a missed opportunity (and one that, to be frank, would have been a bit more entertaining than watching the streams where they just played the game IMHO).

Ah! I didn't know this. Maybe we'll see an uptick in the coming weeks, then! I'd imagine they're still being onboarded with trainings and stuff.
True. They might have to sit down and make a plan for a new way of running things. The past couple of months on SoMe have felt a bit like they have just done the bare minimum to keep stuff going. Or they are just focusing on planning SoMe stuff for the new game.

Also, sorry to spam so much.

Because theres no console bundle for June, the most recent posts have been about showcasing the aquatic and twilight packs but now that they're out they don't have anything to post on. I am happy that they've slowed down the reels and funny videos showcasing Barnyard pack because I see it as a sign that they are slowly transitioning to get ready for the next pack at the end of the month. As for the screenshot saturday and all that weekly stuff I have no idea where it went.

New CM + expected new game announcement any time now

Hmmmmmmmmmm
Yeah I was wondering if that played a part too, the PC show starts in about 9 minutes. So we might get news on the new game today!

And if we are lucky maybe the new dlc? Though as everyone has put it, that can be due to a simple lack of new stuff to post on top of a new CM.

The way this first 20 minutes have been... I'm honestly not expecting anything from Frontier today. It seems more indie-focused (as expected) and just... I dunno. I'd think if there was a bigger developer announcing something they'd be teasing the name? But I also don't really know how this sort of thing usually works. Hah. Maybe it's just that they're focusing on strategy games right up-front but uh yeah...

And, per usual, I'd be very happy to be wrong! And I honestly do feel like it'll be a weird call with those investors if it's been literally two business quarters and they haven't really announced what any of the new CSM games are in any meaningful way.

So far that show feels like a waste of time and I might give up on it soon.

I'm not really a gamer but some of these titles are pretty cool TBH. And it's fun to watch the gameplay. But yeah... I'm feeling like this won't be what we're all hoping for. Haha.
Looks like a lot of people in the chat have waited for that Killing Floor game (whatever that is), so could be the bigger titles are coming now.

Not getting my hopes up (especially for PZ) but I’d love to be surprised. As usual the show is pretty hit or miss for me so far, some of the indie titles look pretty neat at least. I think I’d be drunk if I took a shot every time they used shooting things and/or guns as a selling point for a game though lmao.

Man I know it’s my mistake, but don’t look at the comments. Nothing but endless negativity and cynicism (and tbh some isms too), but yeah it’s been a not so great showcase so far.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we do get an announcement or if we get none at all

Fr I feel like there’s at least three instances of misogyny every time I open the chat.
