ARX store inflation

this is interesting, I didnt realise they handled better.... i thought they just came with a higher grade of SCO, which was now available for all ships but hadnt been before.

Still not gonna buy one with cash, i will wait till August but it defintely means these ships have a very real improvement to them over what is currently available in game.
Yes the ‘ride’ in an older ship fitted with a SCO drive can be very wild depending on how agile the ship was in supercruise the Python Mk2 while still feeling quite dynamic is placid in comparison. I wouldn’t want to go hands free with it for long or spend a lot of time not looking where I am going but that is partly due to the speed.

They’re pushing their ugly colourful ones and discouraging people from getting the cheaper and basic paint jobs. Most games allow people to personalize their character or ship for free using basic colours and only charge for the premium ones. Not here though. Everything is way overpriced and the value for $ in the cosmetics store is extremely low.

Pricing things too high is one thing - but here you can't even buy things you want. For example, if you want a solid coloured viper4 or put a tattoo on your CMDR, then FDEV will refuse to take your money even though those things have already been designed.

Spot on. I sent a support ticket in asking to have the Type-7 Tactical Olive paint added to my account, and for 1,600 ARX to be deducted from my account (the current price of the handful of tactical paints on the store). They refused, saying if it's not on the store they can't give it to users, or offer alternate ways to pay. They again said to ask for it in the Suggestions forum.

Perhaps we need a sticky in there detailing what's now missing and asking people to vote on what they want see back, so they can get an accurate answer on what's being requested. Sure, it's still a FOMO rotating store, but at least there'd be a legitimate mechanism to try and get the specific thing what you want.

BTW, you can use this website to search for everything that was ever sold for arx (2022 and after, eg. doesn't know about the chrome/gold paints): https://elite.drinkybird.net/store
You can filter by "Unavailable" and see what's missing.
Wow, that is a lot no longer available. And I recognize at least a few that I have and am still happily using, because there was nothing better for me

Such an odd choice to remove things from the store AND raise prices. Bunch of skins I would be willing to buy are just no longer available.. I also haven't bought any skins since the recent price increases, previously I liked to buy multiple skins for a ship from time to time to change things up a little. With the new prices choosing a skin isn't as easy of a choice as before.

I think it's the OPEN game that's ruining it. You can't have a very large number of loaded skins for each commander in an instance.

do you have any source to back that up? i would be interested if it is the case but i doubt it.

forza in the xbox 360 (so weak sauce tech) had some very detailed skins and it didnt seem to affect game performance much even in MP

I can't see it being at all plausible as a reason.

Any instance where the CMDRs present are in different ship types already has to load N different skins, any instance where the 23 Python CMDRs present all have different paints (even assuming that recolours don't count, and no-one has any limited-edition or no-longer-sold options, I think that's the number of different styles currently available) has to do the same, they still have to support in-game all the previously-sold ones anyway, instances with double-figure player counts are extremely rare regardless (but instances with double-figure NPC counts, which apply the same texture loading burden so long as they're in a mix of ship types, are very common), ED's multiplayer performance - while still shaky - has improved over the years as the number of cosmetic options has also increased.

This is just my guess, either all skins at once in the client or drag them through the network. In any case, if they are different they will eat video memory.

That doesn't make any sense. Removing from the store doesn't prevent players equipping their purchased skins and connecting to other players. And there is also always a limited number of players in a session. And lastly, I doubt the game allows skins to be pushed willy-nilly by clients and only the official skins are loaded and displayed - limiting what is loaded and displayed.
Availability on the store has not a big influence on performance.

I have given up pursuing this matter any more, it is like chewing a brick. FDEV have gone back into mushroom farming mode with no response about these issues whatsoever* and asking about it on the twitch live stream gets you "sin-binned".

FDEV obviously don't care about the response of the players and are basically taking us for granted. Their attitude is tainting the game for me.

* Well actually very little from them at all - so much for the much-vaunted "improved communications".

I don't know the real reasons, but I always believe it's done for a reason.
