Newcomer / Intro Trying to get into Minor Factions

So, I've been trying to find out more information regarding the 'politics' of PMFs, specifically the Vela City Navy. The squadron I'm in is just a small band of new players and we ended up siding with this Minor Faction. I've been looking into attempting to try and help grow the Vela City Navy's influence and territory, but I saw on some older forum post that some players and squadrons sort of 'run' these PMFs by forming alliances and such.

Are these groups still active and if so, does anyone know if there is any information regarding the Vela City Navy relations to other PMFs? I want to dive into this style of gameplay, but I also don't want to accidently draw the ire of a larger faction while I'm experimenting.

Basically, I want to know if I can experiment with the Vela City Navy without someone coming in and stomping them into the dirt.

Thank you for any info and tips.

Their home system is in Mahon space (under Woloniugo controlling system) and Vela City Navy PMF is a Democracy (neutral for Mahon) so as far as you decide to move around (i.e. expand) perhaps it would be better to take contact with them and/or all their aligned PMFs around Cate.

Start here:

I did come across this while looking around for information. A very useful tool to have with everything one needs to know about a minor faction in one place.

I was able to notice this as well. The Cate System is under Alliance Control and is also quite far from Hudson's Federation Territory, so I want to focus more on just the minor faction Vela City Navy, rather than the PowerPlay between the two Superpowers.

The main Alliance Minor Faction that has contact with the Vela City Navy is the Flat Galaxy Society. Whereas the Vela City Navy only has presence in two systems; I've notice the Flat Galaxy Society in a good number of systems I've passed through. So, I'm assuming that they have quite a bit more squadrons and players who are supporting them. I don't want to draw the ire of such a force while testing things out. I understand these kind of features come with setbacks and defeats from other players and factions, but if such an outcome can be avoided, that would be optimal.

You should just do what you want. If it's good for you, just do it. I don't recall any PMFs asking me if I wanted them in my systems. 😛
I had a little mini-empire going down at the bottle of the bubble when a group dropped not one, but three new PMFs directly on top of me. Like, literally spawned in with their home system in my main expansion base, another in my main LTD-piracy system, and another system a short distance away, so they could then proceed to expand all three factions into all the free slots in the area and block anyone else from moving in.

It was blatantly against the PMF rules about a squadron only being allowed one faction, but apparently as long as they had a different player apply for each one there was no way to really check. Well, aside from noticing that there were three PMF applications in for systems in the same area which were all named variations on the same theme.

Usually I would agree, but since I ended up supporting a PMF that already had some established squadrons and relations with other PMFs, I didn't want to barge in and start doing things in the name of that PMF. If I didn't find anything pointing me towards the already established squadrons in the area, then yeah, I would of continued and done my own thing.

I'm not looking to hijack somebody else's PMF, but rather try and grow my own; luckily I got into contact with some people who were able to find me an abandoned PMF I can experiment with without fear of messing up others relations.

This is one of the reasons why, IMO, FD dropped the PMF system some time ago.

I'm quite happy supporting my game-native factions. Some player groups have used the argument that "it's not a PMF" to try to convince me that they have a superior claim, but no one has yet been able to get my stuff.

Frankly, I'd quite like (clearly based on my stated preference to support the factions as they were at the start) FD to just wipe all the PMFs. There are so many with such poorly thought-out, cringe-inducing names that the game would be better off without them.

I suspect a lot of those cringe inducing names were very carefully thought out and quite deliberate.

This is honestly the part that always galls me, people declaring that they have some sort of right to be unopposed because they filled out a form on a website.
It's weak sauce, usually served with a lot of salt when they discover that they are being effectively counteracted.

Maybe they should consider renaming their group to HIP 90151 Purple Gang. Then their faction and the in-game faction will have the same name. :)

Nothing helped me immerse myself in the far future of 3310 interstellar society like jumping into a new star system the other day and the system was governed by the "Military Gamers"
