DLC18 discussion and predictions

Can't wait for this bad boy to show up

I'm still sticking with Old World tbh. The baboon is the most requested for Africa, and the Cat and Markhor are 2 high requests for Asia. If by doing an old world pack they want to combine Africa, Asia, and Europe, it would make sense to paint a scene of an area that a few of them overlap, either in environment or location. This explains how all 3 animals are linked together. To me its a connection between Africa and Asia mainly, but since they can't call it Afro-Asia cause it sounds weird just give Europe the chamois and the pine marten and make it the Old World Pack. That or highlands. Either way its a win in my books.

There is absolutely no way they will openly say that they arent going to celebrate the anniversary because planet coaster 2 is releasing the next day so they made an excuse of the pack being in the way i am pretty ceraitn it means nothing.
Well yes, I also very much think that that is the actual reason they began with, that seems as obvious as it can be. But that doesn't mean that they can't then further lean into it. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Also can we all just agree whatever the theme the key art is it absolutely sucks at conveying it and that we are insane 70 pages in less than 2 days we are going to make this the longest thread by the dlc
Yes hahahaha. If it is mountains then I think there were much better ways to show that. By obviously including a mountain lol.

A lot of people here saying that if this is a Highlands/Mountains DLC that it means it isn't the last one, overlooking the fact that this could be both. Frontier absolutely could end DLC support with a Highlands Animal Pack.
We don't have a clue what the final DLC will be, when it will be, what theme, or even if it's a larger size. Frontier has always been pretty mum about that sort of information.
100% this.

For me it being the potential last DLC has no influence on why I think this isn't a Mountain themed DLC; but Frontier can end support on whatever DLC they like, with whatever theme, and whatever size of the pack.

I think you guys are less generous to the general public than you should be lol. Somewhat peculiar animals headline all the time- they don’t need to stick the cat as the headliner every time to draw in general audiences. Heck, the last pack of wild animals was headlined by an animal I didn’t know existed before I learned about this game. A buyer on Steam could definitely handle a secretary bird or a walrus if this really was a grab bag pack.
I still don't understand why people are so surprised that the Pallas Cat is the headliner, it's a good one regardless of the theme. It's a memeable animal, it's a "cute but grumpy" animal. It's a cat. Like seriously, all the obvious reasons are there 😂

Also, isn't this literally only the second time we got a cat as a headliner?
This would be such a strange way to do a final pack, wouldn’t it? What are we partying about, the end of the game?
Because the end of the game does not have to inherently be a bad and sad thing? Everything comes to an end, it's normal. You can celebrate the ending of a game by looking back at the 5 years of fun you've had and all the fun that you'll keep having. I'd say that if your game is going to end, you'd be better off ending it on a positive note than on a sad note.

Why are we doing presumably a fan favorites pack with, like, the 14th and 21st most popular animals instead of going straight down the wishlist?
Wait wait, I think a lot of people are running too much with the idea of a Zookeepers Collection pack and applying that to a potential Planet Zoo Anniversary/Celebration pack. A festive/celebration pack does not have to focus on fan requested animals. It can celebrate the weird and wonderful, animals with unique traits, etc. I don't necessarily think that a celebration pack has to have the fan favourites.

Why would the animals revealed be the most mountainous ones on pretty mountain-looking scenery instead of random animals?
Is the scenery really mountainous though? People jumped to Tibetan flags but those aren't Tibetan flags. They used ingame flags, and instead of using the ones they have ingame that can actually pass for a Tibetan flags, they went for different ones. And they're in the same theme btw. Lanterns, flags and a tent aren't inherently mountainous for me.

And I'll keep saying this, this is a hill (hehe) I'm willing to die on; but Hamadryas Baboon isn't an animal I would call overly mountainous. Ask anyone to list a bunch of mountain animals and I'm fairly sure that the baboon almost never makes it on the list. 😅 I feel like we're linking those to mountains more because everyone saw that as a possible alternate pack for the much more obvious Arid pack a baboon would come in.

Now that i think about it that might explain the weird scenery. Those lanterns look chinese but the flags and tent really dont scream chinese to me. So maybe its old world with scenery thats just props representing different cultures, like a handfull chinese, some mongolian, some mediterranean and so on.
The flags and lanterns are kinda similar to pieces we have in game but they arent an exact match.
Idk weird all around

Yeah now that you say it, if you compare them to ingame flags, they are indeed just slightly different. That makes it even weirder to me as these then are just generic flags they used from some asset, because then I feel like if they wanted to go for the obvious Tibetan Mountain flags... they would have just done so.

Though it should also be kept in mind that whilst they do use ingame pieces for the key-art; it's not always just ingame pieces. Usually it's a mix of generic stuff and ingame pieces; so these could just be generic pieces.

Good morning. After sleeping on it, I'm not sold on the celebration pack idea. The dlc image doesn't give me any party/celebration vibes at all. My first thoughts when I saw it were mountains/highlands, so I'm going to stick to my my first impressions. Sometimes we overthink too much. We already have (different) tent pieces in the game: one is a camping tent from the African collection and then we have tent pieces from the European collection which were added to build Christmas markets. So having new tent pieces (assuming it's a tent made with new pieces) doesn't really mean that it's for a party.

I think you are answering to yourself. If we only had a couple DLCs, we probably wouldn't put the baboon in a mountain pack. However after 17 DLCs, we have to consider the remaining options and that's where putting the baboon in a mountain pack makes more sense. The other options could be a safari pack or a general pack.

Where would make it more sense to have the Arctic fox: an Arctic pack or a North America pack? Where would you put a red fox in first place: Europe or Twilight? If you had to choose 4 animals to represent Africa would you really pick the African penguin? The baboon in a mountain pack might not be the obvious choice, but it's a choice that makes sense.

Anyway, I agree with the possibility of having the reveal next Friday for world animal day, so wile will see soon.

I think that serves as a good justification as to why you would put it in a mountain pack. Which I can surely agree with. That still does not make the baboon an obvious mountain animal though; which is what I was talking about.

It's like with the black rhino. You can obviously justify its place in the Arid Animal Pack; but a pack that was basically completely centred around deserts doesn't make the black rhino an obvious desert animal.

New theme idea unlocked: the 3 animals have something in common: crazy hair! The baboon is self-explanatory, the cat has a lot of hair to cope with the cold and the Markhor beard is very prominent. The tent is an animal hairdresser saloon, because in the free update they are adding the grooming mode.

The two most popular options currently are:
  • A mountain pack with no mountain
  • A celebration pack with no celebration
Frontier really had to give us the most confusing key art the one time they use it for a teaser haha
I mean honestly i think its kinda fun. Like collectively trying to "decode" it and speculating on what animals could fit which idea is a cool way to bridge the time until we actually the dlc

Here's another idea. It's a farewell party and a birthday party in one. So kinda sad but still a celebration. That's where the blue and grey colors come from. There is some melancholy in saying goodbye 🥲

LOL! I dreamed last night that the pack was called "cute fluffy hairy" Animal Pack

Also the secretary bird is the most requested animal according to the meta wishlist, so people are assuming that Frontier wouldn't just end the game without giving the community its most requested animal.
This take has always irked me because there has ALWAYS been a ‘most requested animal’, and there always will be.

If we get the Secretary Bird now, whatever is below it will become the most requested, and the community will latch onto that and clamour that Frontier simply CAN’T end support without giving us the most ‘highly requested animal’ on the wishlist.

I remember it happening with Wetlands. Everyone was throwing their toys out of the pram about the Capybara, saying we HAVE to get it before end of support (yes, we had doomsayers back then too). Then, when it was added, it was an IMMEDIATE switch to the Leopard. Then, the Tasmanian Devil, which arguably caused the most amount of uproar. I mean, at the start of the game’s life, nobody even cared about the Tassie. It’s only as the game’s life goes on and the more high profile animals are added that these niche picks are deified by the community.

Frontier can and will end support before giving us our ‘most highly requested animal’ because they have already given us our ‘most highly requested animal’. Several times. The Secretary Bird would be a great addition, but is it the most highly requested animal? Only since getting the Polar Bear, Jaguar, Kangaroo, Penguin, Meerkat, White Rhino, Sea Lion, Capybara, Leopard, Tassie (the list goes on and on)

I like this a lot 😁

Infinite DLC glitch

You must realize that all these animals aren't odd choices like before. Palla's Cat, Hamadrya's Baboon, and Markhor have been asked for years. This is not a Highlands or Mountain's theme. This is the final pack where they probably are going to make it a Celebration or Final Goodbye until Planet Zoo 2, I don't know what the title should be.

All we know is so far that we had these animal's "leaked" in dictionary so make your decision or choice. Though this is pure speculation but the fact that markhor and Hamadrya's who were previously leaked through Dictionary and was removed a day before this DLC announcement is VERY strange

  • Hamadrya's Baboon
  • Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo
  • [Name] Echidna
  • [Name] Sifaka
  • [Name] Dik-Dik
  • Secretary Bird
  • Markhor
  • African Spurred Tortoise

The other 3 spots:
- Palla's Cat
[OPEN]
[OPEN]
[OPEN] [E]

THIS IS ALL PURE SPECULATION
This IS a Mountain or Highlands Animal Pack. They started of making promo based on this ID (colors, animals choices, assets, etc).
