4th ship - a Stealth / Smuggling / SpecOps ?

Hi,

just sudden idea came to me regarding new thargoid-reverse engineered power plant - if we could drive heat down, wouldn't be able to create a very nice SCO-capable stealth ship?

At first I thought about small size package, but we have already a lovely Diamondback Scout which excels at this, so probably mid-sized again (hopefully 4A FSD this time!)

We have had a combat ship, a cargo ship, and an exploration ship. What other ship types exist? Passenger ships.

So if the trend continues, the fourth one will be a passenger luxury liner. Which would be a bit boring, to be honest.

I also believe, we will get a passenger ship.

We have 6 Ship manufacturers. 2 of those make ships locked behind ranks: Gutamaya and Core Dynamics. And I dont think it will be one of these two.

Because until now we got 3 Ships Not locked behind ranks from faulcon D, Lakon and Zorgon Peterson.

The Last ship maker not locked behind a rank is Saud Kruger. So my bet is, that the last ship will be from saud kruger and probably a passenger ship. But maybe They will make a combat ship or something else. :)

EDIT: The more I think about it... we dont have a medium sized Passenger ship. IMO its almost certain, it will be a passenger medium sized ship. Almost...

A large Fighter/Battlecruiser, that is for combat only. Since the Corvette is in fact Multipurpose and the T10 is, well, ridiculous, there is a niche for a serious large fighter.

  • Speed 330/500 (max engineered)
  • 1000 base armor
  • a bit more than „Corvette maneuverability“
  • Fighterbay capability

3x Class 4 and 4x Class 2 Hardpoints

8x Utility slots

1x Class 7, 2x Class 5, 3x Class 3, 3x Class 1 Optional Internals
1x Class 7 Military Internals (SCBs)
2x Class 5 Military Internals

Class 8 Thrusters, Powerplant and Distributor

I too would not be at all surprised to see Saud Krueger produce The Last Ship. The challenge, of course, is how do you make it something people actually want to use? Obviously it's going to be sco optimized, but for bulk passenger hauling, the type 8 is already basically the king. And anything new they make in the large slots would directly compete with the Beluga and the Orca.

I suppose they could make a long-range multirole large ship. Take a beluga, slap a C8 FSD onto it, and add three huge hardpoints. Call it the Narwhal.

Combat takes so long...
Some people just need to start using bigger guns. I bet none of these people have had even so much as a cargo bay door welded shut at the end of a CZ with the tiny peashooters they're using. In my day we used to rocket jump our way to victories.

Winning by doing slightly more damage to your opponent than to yourself. That's how you do things!

Well, any suggestions other than a big trade ship are saying no to a Panther Clipper.

If we get base building, the Panther Clipper LX could be very useful for heavy loads.

This old Horizons artwork shows a base, SRV and perhaps the PC LX.

Passenger ships are somewhat boring, though. Could go for a new multirole, an SCO-stabilized Cobra for the anniversary... or how about a new Anti-Xeno Guardian hybrid ship instead? That'd sell like hot cakes.

Of course, since they said "at least four", there'd be room for more. The schedule has slipped already though.

Another possibility is that since the three ships so far have been medium-sized, perhaps the fourth one will be a multi-role large ship of some kind.

I'd think the Cobra V is the 5th ship of that at least 4, with ship 4 being yet another medium. (the Mandy could have been a small ship with internal compartments similar to the Cobra IV but uprated core components)

Mandy coming out in the last week of October still gives a month to launch ship 4 and 3 weeks for the Cobra V, whatever ships are coming must already be 'almost there' if FD are to meet that statement.

Putting your other details aside, I think this would be a bad/boring choice.
If we get a combat specialised Large ship, it should have 3, or maybe 4, Huge hardpoints, but nothing else. That should be the focus of the ship, and if people want to port over their railgun builds make them have to give up a Huge slot to do it.

If we are going to go that way, I would rather it be a small ship. Imagine something like a vulture Mark II, with huge hardpoints instead of large. There really aren't very many opportunities to use fixed huge weapons right now, so it would be quite cool to have that chance.

I would like a small ody mission runner. No small ships yet, or large. But I do no like flying the large ships, not fun to fly and maneuver around.

Cobra Mark V (CM5) would be great for an ody mission runner, and pp2.0 settlement ship. Small to land at all settlements and if no parking on the launch pad very easy to find a small spot to land on. Ludicrous Speed Drive (sco) optimized from the mfg, all the module slots from the CM4, and more of the speed and handling of the CM3.

Although the benefit of say, a quad huge PA or quad huge Multicannon build, aside from the obvious benefit of the 4 huge weapons being awesome when you pull the trigger, it would also balance nicely with the current damage output of the Corvette, so you're not getting a load of power creep.

This issue here, unlike the Python mk2, being what on earth are you going to do with something that would output more damage than a Corvette given that there's already no opposition in the game to a well built one of those.

If we are theorizing on what they could do for a new ship... how about a large mining vessel with SCO? Specifically with bespoke requirements of a huge hard point for a new piece of mining gear. Game loop of jumping between systems looking for large comet contact(s) and then using SCO to get out to the edge of system site and busting it open and then scooping the results into cargo.

It wouldn't need to push the DPS envelope. It could effectively be a side-grade to the Anaconda that is just better for this new kind of mining by virtue of being much faster at getting to encounters far from the sun(s).
