Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I've been warned of this happening from some of the senior members of this thread long before it actually happened to me. It only happens every once in a while. I think there once has been a thread somewhere in the depths of this forum about this odd behaviour. Though I feel like it was one specific material that has been quite volatile. I first thought it was magnesium, but I'm not sure if that even exists as a material.
I've had those magically disappearing ones, too. Happens if you aren't careful enough on a low gravity world.

Yeah, I'm playing with my trusty old XBox 360 controller. Why do you ask?
I've just never seen indicators in the system map to hold keys or buttons before, but I assumed you had Odyssey at least and weren't on console. I've considered trying my Xbox controller though. I just never got around to testing it.

I'll keep an eye out for the exploding mats but I suppose I'd know it if I saw it. Probably.

Maybe not with my SRV driving. It can get a little...turbulent..

The "hold" prompt is for selecting a navigation target, triggering the route plotting.
You'll encounter a lot of layered button presses with a controller. For example, pressing "B" would trigger the SCO/sublight boost on your ship, while "B+digipad right" would activate the external camera, "B+digipad down", the landing gear and "B+digipad left" would extend the cargo scoop. These are just some examples, pulled from memory from my own settings.

They always explode when you drive across them. But you'll usually only notice them when you are driving slowly (sub 10 m/s).

Back after a break, that's what I am.
Got inspired by the planned DW3 and the current CG to hop back to the bubble. Sold some exploration data to the CG for ~300M and a spot in the top 25%, some bio data for ~700M and celebrated with a CMV, now parked at Felicity's garage. That little ship is hot.

Next steps: collect another 70 points for the CG, cash in, transfer the money to my other account via carrier and reset this CMDR. Oh - does anyone know where to go nowadays if I want to collect (not buy!) some meta alloys? I'll need to unlock Felicity again and might as well lay in a bit of stock on my FC.

One of the blown up Titan sites, you should find them just floating in space, If you see any Titan Drive Components (TDC) grab them as well, make sure you have an anti corrosion cargo rack installed.

Yes, an xBox mega-super-duper but kicker. ;)

That sounds a little restrictive or complicated for my tastes but I did wonder if the analogue sticks might be okay for general flight.

Though I suppose an X52 pro isn't much less restrictive.

The effect of the ‘explosion’ varies from:-
I was sure there were more of those mats a moment ago, through;
Whoah stunt driving all tipped to one side, to;
Why is the ground the wrong way up.

This cactus is worth 81 million cr, I haven't seen too much of this out Colonia way.

Yeah, it's quitecomplicated at times. The flying works good. Though I might be a little biased, as I don't have any other means to control a spaceship.
The only downside is that to move the ship from side to side, you have to switch via a button press. By standard, this is set on the left stick, but as it always messed with me when being in a fight or any other stressful "turn, you b*ch" situations (hand slightly tensing up during turning and thus accidently pressing the stick (in many car-related games referred to as "panic horn")), I changed this to a more complicated button set and use the left stick to activate night vision.

Any single stick - or even dual sticks without twist - will have restrictions. ED runs on full 6 DOF for the ship plus another 2 DOF for your view. Even dual Virpils are cramped - and those have (for each stick) three main axes, two minor axes (analog ministick) and 30 buttons. My current setup has dual Virpils, a small keyboard with touchpad (needs a better mounting) and a gamepad for foot stuff/free cam.Oh, and a small script to convert the two flip switches on the triggers into momentary buttons. I have a camera ready for gaze/head tracking, but haven't tried that yet. Maybe next weekend.

Just nipped down to Vista to cash in my latest, nothing to shout about, a single Bacterium, Tela:)

It brings my grand total to 5K of which over 97% are first logged.

I think it may be time to start easing back and leave some for everyone else:)
