"Development Level >>"? Figuring out what all these numbers do.

doesn´t EDDiscovery do that ?

There's a huge number of tools out there which read the journal already, and they use the local data on your client. If you're thinking of writing something to make more use of this specific part of the data (the economy) then EDMC and EDD both allow plugins. If you write this as a plugin you get the benefit of the years of understanding the odd corners in the journal data and the UI framework from that tool. ED Observatory's framework is very elegant and I'm not aware anyone has written a plugin yet that does much with the market and commodity data - but it could!

There are a few tools out there which are focused on the economy or trade but they all seem to be written from scratch and don't use this neat way of doing it.
Thank you for the information. I had looked around before but obviously not very well (plus Google search fights me). It appears EDMC is more of a connector to send information to websites and such which isn't really what I was looking for. I was just wanting to keep it on the computer and be an inspection tool to see the information in a friendly grouped and filterable way, not so much do anything with it. Both ED Discovery (also what EDD is I think) and ED Observatory look promising though. A little less so for ED Observatory as it seems to point to what it considers interesting things more than anything though it does allow plugin creation.

Thank you both for the tips and exposure of tools to new or casual players such as myself. Much appreciated!

I agree, an invisible stat may be at play here making it harder to sort out. Or perhaps it was a bug and your shipyard appeared as part of some background server fix propagated out that took time to hit all the assets. That happened to my initial outpost which went past the Thursday deployment but didn't actually fully deploy. It had a commodities market I could buy stuff from but I could not sell anything. There were also other visual signs and deployment type labels but it did have missions I could take (did not exist before Thursday) so a weird mix of deployed and not. Late Friday, when I next played, it was fully deployed likely due to bug fixes.

I just finished my farm and I'm building my security station now. After thinking about it a bit and playing with options in my build spreadsheet I made I think I'll probably go ahead and build a Coriolis next. I like the look of them better anyway and prefer that aside from the material costs differences. At that point I'll have 0 tech points, 8 security, 5 wealth, 11 living, and 4 development in the system. If I get a shipyard I may take a little break for some other gameplay. If I don't I can build some tech stuff as see if it adds one in.

Either way I'll report back so others know for their own information and evaluation. It might take a small bit of time depending on how much I play during the week after finishing my security station tomorrow.
There's a lot of variables we should track over the coming few weeks. The planet type the station orbits may have an invisible bonus to a variety of stats, for example. Water/Earth-like giving bonuses to agricultural economies makes sense. I'm nearing completion of my initial system at a current score of -4/8/24/15/10, my next one will definitely be built a lot more strategically. I'll have a lot more information about how Standard of Living and Development Level impact the system as a whole on Thursday.

Confirming that Tech Level contributes to your station facilities. 6+ needed to unlock the Shipyard, 8 is NOT enough to unlock the universal cartographics. Tech Level is applied immediately to your system, no need to wait until Thursday.
Can't be just that. I have a system with just a scientific outpost as primary port, no other completed constructions yet. The outpost has cartographics (but not outfitting).

Yeah we established it's definitely not just Tech Level at this point. I wish FDev would give us more concrete details, but for now we're mostly stumbling around blindly.

For Odyssey settlements (non-colonisation ones, at least) the High-Tech ones get Cartographics and the others don't. So it's possible that the services are mostly an effect of the station template you pick.

Same. Cartographics seems to be a default service for science outposts. And just like yours, mine doesn't have a shipyard or outfitting. It does have rearm, refuel, repair and (strangely enough) an engineering option. Is your science outpost exactly the same as mine?

I have a science outpost and no UC. I had no Shipyard until I built a relay.

Shipyard? Your outpost has a shipyard?? @Jmanis checked Inara and found out that outposts with shipyards are rare as hell in-game! I'm building a relay first thing in the morning - what kind of relay was it? Do you recall the name?

I'm sorry, I don't recall. But I remember there being 2 to choose from and I couldn't build one of them for whatever reason. It's COL 285 SECTOR TD-R B 18-0 if you want to take a look.

Sorry, misunderstanding here. The outpost does not have a shipyard. The shipyard was not active on the Coriolis Station until I built a relay.

Thank you, I will check it out. And we'll do our best to help you get your UC activated. It's very puzzlingly that it didn't - it's the signature service of the science outpost.

I'm going to build a survey after I get home in order to get more structured data about colonies. Please PM me if you think there's any relevant data points I should add to the survey, i.e. "What world type is your facility on/orbiting", "What kind of facility is it", etc.
