Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Claim Pause

What are the odds that FDev are going to give us advance warning of when claims go live? I'm expecting to login, find they've been active for hours already, and the system I want is gone. I've started checking this thread instead of the game because it won't be far behind. I'm still logging out at a system I can claim it from. I'm still staying close to it and the bubble, just in case they randomly flip the switch back on. I'd rather be doing other stuff in the game though.

Depends what the issue they're fixing is.
- if it needs a client update to be downloaded, then they generally will be giving at least a day's advance notice of that
- if it's a server-side reset needed, then that will probably take a few hours
- if it's something they can just do later, then they might just do it and say so.

I'd rather be doing other stuff in the game though.
You can be reasonably confident that they'll make the change during (or near) their normal office hours. So if it's outside 0700-1800 (game time) Monday-Friday, you can probably assume at the very least it won't change until the next time it is.

Is expansion currently limited by one system per user and until it is fully developed, they can't claim any further systems?
I just got started on this and since I couldn't claim any new spots, assumed that was the deal.

they do not need to be fully developed.... you can claim as many systems as you want but only one at at time and a T1 minimum outpost needs to be completed on it..

that said you can't claim any new claims at the moment so make the most of the one you have

Its been paused due to folks exploiting (again), we await the restart.

what makes you assume that they stopped it due to people exploiting it?
They said they disabled the ability to claim systems as there was "an issue" that affected "the ability to claim systems"

In fact the word "exploit" hasn't even been used by fdev...

They usually never comment on exploits, but it makes sense to halt everything.

Not only due to the exploit, but also to analyse the data of the 8000 systems.

That unnecessary amount of precision reminds me of the joke:

A museum tour guide is presenting a dinosaur skeleton to visitors and says that it's "65 million years and 3 weeks old."
The visitors are puzzled about how he can possibly know that.
Guide says: "Well, when I got hired the curator told me that it's 65 million years old, and that was three weeks ago."
And in turn, this reminded me of a fact that I normally throw in a conversation about dinosaurs.

"They went extinct about 65 million years ago.
It was a Wednesday."

At the pace Frontier claims we are colonizing it would only take about 1.095.890,410958904 years to finish off this galaxy, why not move on to the next?
The bulk of those 8000 systems are in the bubble which should now be called the solid. Outward expansion will be slower as supply lines get longer but hey, I'll let my great great great great grandchildren worry about that.

Its not rocket surgery is it.

And fix the widely reported issue where two commanders try to claim a system at close to the same time and the results are unpredictable. It's really quite weird the forumites have just forgotten this bug and bang on about exploits instead.

Also quite weird the forum users have forgotten the rules about discussing the e-word.

Exploiting seems to suggest they stumbled across something. From what I've seen posted by the offender on a notorious website, this was one of several code hacks into the game some of which are yet to be discovered.

indeed i am in a similar boat. my fleet carrier is loaded to the gills and fueled ready to go (i havent moved it yet because there seems little point wasting the fuel if i do not get the claims i have pencilled down.

i know some would argue "do something else then" however i am expecting the 2 claims i have spotted will be gone with in minutes of the feature being opened up again so i need to keep my ship docked at the station if i am even to have a punchers chance of claiming my 1st colonisation system.... so practically there is not much i can do now either until it goes online.

Yeah, I've definitely given up hope of getting anywhere good during these initial stages. The gold-rush thing really doesn't suit me. By the time I'm able to get some time to be online, anywhere I'd hoped to get has gone and I'm back to planning, only to miss the next one again due to life. The pause on claims will only make this worse once it opens up again and the second rush movement happens.

I've actually gone to playing other games for the moment. I'll give colonisation a go once the dust has settled in a few months.
