I’d be happy if they just added the random name system they use for the stations we built.
A Nostronooo. What do you think is the plural noun for a collection of Nostronomosusses?

- But only for systems with a minimum of 10 completed facilities.
- AND maybe 5,000 ARX
Just to ensure name changes only happen to systems cmdrs care about.
If they also drive a VW Golf GTI, are they a Big Bore?A Nostronooo.
The group within any community that are so lacking in imagination that it result in things like this is called a Bore.
Combined maturity? Groups of people are even worse than just people.Interesting suggestion.
That would limit it either to:
a) groups, where hopefully the combined maturity would win out over choosing puerile names
b) Individuals who have put a lot of effort in and hopefully are proud of their system and want to give it a good name
I also like that we can filter carriers because with the exception of the wonderful DSSA carriers, they are mostly useless for anyone who is not the owner or in their group.
To emphasize it again: The universe which we play in is the Elite universe. Not the one far away and long ago or from other popular sci fi franchises. There's nothing wrong with a couple of the not so known names from these stories and it is probably unavoidable because lots of names have been borrowed from literature and history (e.g. 'Nostromo', 'Sulaco', 'Enterprise'.) but it just feels 'too much' and also pretty uninventive for me when I have to fly through a dozen systems which feel like I am in Pokemon or Star Trek.
I think that probably the least intrusive and an easy to develop solution would be that we players can display automatically generated names for stations and the official names of systems plus the owner names. Make a toggle to turn off the owner names. (I'd be curious how many players would turn them off)
I'd even pay ARX for that toggle!
I agree with all you wrote above. When FDev talked about colonisation in December's FU, I already got the impression that we won't get much 'customizing' and the game loop is quite a cookie cutter approach. The next FU was really sobering when I realized that establishing a colony has zero personal benefit for my playstyle.[...} Colonizing hasn't exactly been what I had first imagined it to be. I thought it would be a lot more of a custom situation than a "select from a preset of these surface site types and place them no less than 100km apart..." scenario. I suppose I ignorantly saw us placing and fitting together modules/ habs/ buildings etc. And perhaps even growing those out to be full-on cities with time. Like being able to put an agricultural farm about 5-10KM away from the core settlement, which would have consisted of a basic settlement/ residence, with a technology site and industrial site on the outskirts. So, kind of like a small city/ town. [...}

There may be a lot of players who pull satisfaction out of it but I wished for more personalization just like you described above and the 'reward' to have a personal building or at least a cabin, perhaps some storage space for mats and modules, icing on the cake: a display of my journeys and discovered lifeforms in the habitat or bar?
Instead, colonisation is a self-imposed trucking CG - I have more fun to fly an agile Mandalay to undiscovered systems and dance through ice ringsBtw: that allows me to put my name on faaaar more systems and bodies in a short time (not that I care much about but it makes me proud).
Exactly. And people without respect are the reason why it must cost money since it needs extra human resources to weed out the edgelords and attention seekers whose only game is to make a nuisance of themselves. Ikr, it's a cutthroat galaxy.Elite Dangerous is the GOAT (imo) and clearly a lot of very hard work has gone into the development of Elite.
I'm ok with personal cmdr names. If one wants to name themselves cmdr mcshipface, knock yourself out, however, to name stations and systems with silly names, undermines, devalues and disrespects the game and it's developers.
Just no! imo.

I have seen station names, i suspect from the kick starter founders, that are cute, or funny, or personal, I enjoy seeing those. I don't recall seeing any in bad taste. I may be wrong, but could kick starter founders name systems? I don't recall seeing any star system names that are of the user generated type. So, the people who pledged large sums to the development of the game and got stations names like Big Harry's Monkey Hideout and the other funny names that were added disrespected the devs and the game?
I disagree.

In my opinion i am against it for two reason, the first is the obvious obnoxious type, the second is these are real systems in our neighborhood of the galaxy, I'd like to keep that. Astronomers helped fdev solve the problem of systems we can't see either from being to far away or occluded from dust. I think Fdev should be the only entity allowed to name or rename a star system.
If I was a trailblazer, and I'd like to someday, after the kinks have been worked out, It has absolutely no bearing at all to me what that system name is. I don't understand the strong desire to rename a system. And please don't try explain it to me, lol, I've read plenty of pages from the proponents, and it's all rather trivial to me.
Today I learned of a certain content creator that at least got a warning on their account for naming a station after a certain orifice. Got very salty on reddit, too. So it's not like they do nothing, but hey; if it was up to me, they could be much harsher.FD could make it clear that anyone naming a system that requires action could be punished with a ban from the game. Hopefully that would put off the worst offenders.
