DLC 19 Speculation

It's quite scary to imagine the reaction if we don't get the coati 😱 has any other animal been so predicted AND wanted at the same time in the game's history?
Well, back in the Africa pack most of us assumed we were getting the dromedary because they showed dromedary signs. Frontier had to tell us that there was no dromedary coming in the pack before the release because they saw we were heading towards a riot haha. Those were the good old times!

So how would you all round out the deer roster then? Within reason ofcourse.

While im personally not really dying for more i can agree that there objectively should be more than we have now.
I think 2-3 could bring them up to a good spot. One for NA like the elk and reeves muntjac together with a more classical deer for asia would round them up pretty nicely. I think id go with the sambar due to their huge range and to vary the deer up with a tropical species

I feel like muntjac is a must at this point.

Then one for the Americas probably the elk for versatility and it doubles for the old world as well

Then a more traditional looking deer for Asia like Père David’s deer

Yea at this point only 4 deer feels pretty low. It's been nearly two and a half years since we got the red deer.
I will say though, considering we only have four deer, Frontier made pretty damn good choices. The reindeer, moose, and red deer are probably the three most iconic deer everyone knows and they all fill different niches. Meanwhile the fallow deer is an icon too (just not as famous) while looking distinct from the other three as well as being the most common deer species in zoos.

I'd love to seen an Asian deer species next, particularly Reeves Muntjac. It would be great to mix with red pandas and put in basically any temperate Asian area, we need more small ungulates too and this one is a really common zoo animal as well.

Beyond that, my ideal picks would be:
  • Roe Deer (A pretty biased pick but I'd like to round out the European deers so I could make a big mixed forest for them, they're the most common "urban" deer in Britain as well so they're more iconic for me personally and certainly they look distinct from the others)
  • White-Tailed Deer (Controversial but this is an iconic North American animal, would be good as a smaller filler ungulate for this part of the world and also has a huge range too)
  • Southern Pudu (Another small deer and one that is important for temperate South America, could be a cute addition to a Chilean themed area)
  • Chital (A great pick for an Indian filler ungulate, they have a distinct spotty and slender appearance and could be used in all sorts of mixed paddocks)
  • Wapiti (They are kind of just a big red deer but they are so majestic and iconic I can't help but want them, would be cool for any kind of boreal forest areas both North American and Asian)
  • Sika Deer (Another controversial choice from me but I've always though this is underrated, not the most unique deer but these are really common in zoos and would be a great choice for a generic East Asian deer, particularly for Japanese themed areas they'd be great to have alongside the macaque and crane I think)
  • Pere David's Deer (A really unique deer from China that is Extinct in the Wild and also likes to spend a lot of time in water. What is there not to like?)
So that's 8 choices which would bring us to 12 lol, certainly won't happen but yea. The muntjac is absolute priority, but I'd be really happy to see any of these.

My list (Asia only):
1. PD deer (A great significance to the zoo)
2. Sika deer (One of the most common species in East Asian zoos)
3. Tufted Deer/Muntjac(No need to say more)
4. Visayan Spotted Deer(Dangerous situation)5.Chital/Sambar/Swamp Deer(Representative of tropical Asia)
6. White-lipped deer/Siberian roe deer(representative of cold regions - the Himalayas and Northeast Asia)

Any 3 from the above list will satisfy me.

I would say 2-3 are needed to bring deer back up, we especially need at least 1 small deer species. I would personally pick Southern Pudu, Siberian Musk Deer (or muntjac) and a larger deer, the Pere Davids Deer.

On an unrelated note we imo are in a good position currently with DLCs. With all the popular essentials out of the way frontier can now focus more on variety for groups we already have and make zoo collections more unique. I would honestly (currently) prefer them to just keep adding 7 animal + scenery packs for the next couple years and hold off on a sequel. The game is continuing to be a success financially and theres still a lot of animals that are clones that would be good additions. I don't want to risk what we have for a sequel that could end up like PC2 and be a waste of $200+. However I would like if they amped it up to 3 packs per year but still.

I personally don't think we are getting anything more beyond DLC 20. But i also would prefer for them to.keep expanding this roster and not hurry up a half baked sequel. If we aren't getting flying birds from the get go there is no point for a sequel.

And we are still missing some importante stuff like ducks, pelicans, african birds and monkeys (in general).

If the last two animals in this pack turn out to Indeed be coati and mara them SA would be at least acceptable with the most important animals covered at last but we are still missing more monkeys and birds from this part of the world.
