DLC 19 Speculation

Could we use how long a DLC was updated to use it as a way to speculate the next 2 animals?

(Recently Updated was: Barnyard, Zookeeper, Southeast Asia, Arctic, Grasslands)

Australia is an island and Oceania its continent.
Depends on the continental definition you use. Under political definitions Oceania is usually considered a continent, just because lumping all the landmasses in that corner of the world together is what’s most convenient and makes sense regarding proximity. However, geologically Oceania is made up of many different unrelated landmasses, so geological definitions of continents usually recognise Australia as its own continent (spanning the Australian mainland as well as New Guinea, Tasmania and some smaller islands).

Funnily enough the Australia Pack kinda works well for representing Australia both as a country and a continent, mainly because of the southern cassowary - its present on mainland Australia and considered an iconic species of the rainforests of north Queensland, but it’s also far more widespread in New Guinea, helping to better represent the Australian continent as a whole.

The irony for me is that it was the cassowary mostly that made me love the pack. A kangaroo and a koala were given, I was genuinely shocked at the dingo and the cassowary.
I feel like it wouldn't have easily found its audience if it wasn't added. Plus, that partly is why I believe we're getting almost all the ratites to the game; had the emu taken its place, we possibly would've not requested the cassowary. Then, we might’ve not cared for the rhea as much. Like a domino effect

Going back to this pack...

One thing that makes me hopeful for the patagonian mara is the "arid" feel they went with. Reminds me of Eurasia where just the sloth bear was an outlier and the rest of the animals were very heavily associated with cold weather and forests.

Maybe the saki monkey is the one that stands out here in that regard, being the only tropical rainforest species in the pack and the rest from arid environments like the mexican desert and patagonia. Which also makes me wonder if there is a strong possibility that the flamingo is indeed the andean flamingo and not the american one.

I think the white nosed coati also lives in in dry forests so i wouldn't be so out of place.

If ends up being Latin America then anything is fair game... but if you do a latin america coded pack why make the art feel like the desert and not something more colorful and lush? And why pick the bighorn sheep and the coyote that are not really species you asociate with LATAM? Of course the answer to all of this could just be "Because Frontier" but i wonder if the theme is something completly different than LATAM. Or maybe they are just to afraid to alienate NA players and think that a pack with only LATAM fauna and no NA animal won't sell?

I think it’s just because the scenery was primarily Mexican inspired so they added those Mexican desert animals to add variety and stronger ties to mexico

In November of 2019, before the Arctic Pack was even announced, I was discussing the prospect of future DLCs on discord with a friend. Limiting the number to 5 animals (based on the size of Jurassic World Evolution DLCs), they asked me what my roster would be for an Australian pack, and this was my response:

Needless to say I was very happy with the final roster when it was announced. While the emu was highly essential and more iconically Australian than the cassowary of course, I felt that having emus and the red kangaroo in the same pack wasn't the best for creating diverse Australian areas, especially with such a small starting roster, given you would basically build the exact same habitats for them. The cassowary added some much needed variety as a rainforest animal and ensured that the building experience for every animal in the pack was different from one another. There's no denying how important the emu is for Australia, but I definitely think adding the cassowary first and the emu later was the right move.

What if the saki is a condor or something, and the theme is American deserts? That would make all of the picks outstanding. I suppose the remaining ones would be the mara and either a tegu or roadrunner. Edit: I forgot the white nosed coati.

Otherwise, I'm feeling other things for the slots, but the mara is pretty popular and a great candidate for inclusion at some point, whether or not it comes with this pack. I hope you get it!

I remember everyone being happy it was cassowary instead of emu back then. They were just a really cool oddball pick

Introducing flying birds as a random one of, and then not putting it center stage in the Marketing would feel like an incredibly weird move.

Aside from all that i think if it by some miracle indeed is a condor, that this front facing, hunched foward pose would also be a very weird, and rather hard to recognize way to make a condor sign

How about you predict the next pack, so that we can get those animals. Gray fox please, and predict 12 animals in it. Thanks

I wasn't part of the community yet, but yeah, the only thing people seemed to dislike was the dingo, but the funny thing was that y'all in the Land Down Under didnt mind too much about the dingo; it was everybody else that seemed to have an issue😂

I didn’t have an account yet but I did lurk the forums at the time (only actually joined after the SEA pack was announced), and I remember I stopped looking at the Australia Pack announcement thread after a while because of how sad all the dingo hate made me - they were my favourite animal in the pack, and probably still my most used animal in the game all these years later.

But this is the discussion thread for DLC 19, not DLC 3, so best we stop derailing it for now 😅 I’ve been thinking of making an in-depth retrospective for the Australia Pack for a while now, so you can wait till whenever that comes out to hear me yap an unnecessary amount about how well I think the pack holds up.
