Why is the broken BGS being ignored?

Vistaenis Update

The situation has deteriorated since the tick. As well as space combat zones for the two wars that don't exist we now have ground combat available.
Unsurprisingly it's Vistaenis Empire Party fighting on the ground, however the opponent this time is Vistaenis Holdings. This could be explained by the fact that VH have moved to equal influence with VEP and are "officially" pending war on the station news. Maybe they're just getting an early start
It doesn't explain why all of the ground sites used for the conflict actually belong to Dekavu Crimson Vision Network. Presumably they're hiring them out.
If this carries on we may need a community goal to stop VEP before they declare war on the galaxy.

The ground combat sites are actually VEP vs DCVN although I only got the option to join while in ship.
After joining DCVN and dismissing the ship the troops started arriving (the area had been clear as I approached, control points but no people).
The fight started, all targets were unscanned and there were no friend markers, I could also not affect the control points but CBs were scored for kills. There was also no score board, but I think we were winning,
I decided to die and get a drop ship back to see if that would "reboot" the missing details. On dying however I respawned in my ship above the planet. All the CBs are for DVCN so that will help in their non existent war.

Just for fun the Frontline Rep offers V Empire Party vs V Holdings ground sites but won't provide a drop ship when you sign up.

The danger with this line of thought is it leads to the idea that many players aren’t doing the things you are doing in the game and are almost unaware of what is broken.
Yeah, we're only talking the PVE players although we know a few squadrons heavily involved in PP2 that also use the bgs. There are plenty of players out there that couldn't care less about the bgs or have a clue how it's supposed to work 🤷‍♂️
It would be nice if FDev supported all the player types.

Kinda hoping minor factions get merged with squadrons into this Vanguard feature. Right now Minor factions seem pointless. Other than to unlock the random rare... Wish they did something cooler. Like... Invite you into the Dark Wheel or something and then sent you off on your own player long chain quest.

With the situation getting worse and worse as the populated systems increase, and the complete radio silence on the matter my guess is that either Vanguards or the next new feature are going to severely rework/rewrite the BGS.

We keep a close eye on minor factions, especially our prized non natives. Without them the mission board would be pointless - unless you're just using it to make credits.
Wars between minor factions open up new game play styles with combat zones in space and on the ground.
Also kinda hoping that Vanguards will give us the chance to define our own missions to aid factions, both minor and pmf. We'll find out at some point but I'd love the game to be working as it should in the meantime. The only thing I use the mission board for these days are poll missions that I hope will terminate in a newly colonized system because they all actually work.
A few members of the squadron have moved out to the Snake Sector and are building a small OoM bubble out there. It's a pain in the a** for shopping trips but missions actually work out there.

Great, but fix what they broke while we wait please.

I think this affects everyone, even those who don't play bgs & pp, for example: missions "destroy 12 drones in a settlement" - this is an Oddy settlement and there may not be any, and if there are, then a maximum of 1-2, i.e. either this is a completely impossible mission or you need to do 12 relogs, which is hardly intended. Here's another example: "kill a famous pirate" and you need to meet a contact, he often doesn't show up at all (you have to relog or jump into the system again) or he makes an appointment in the crown of a star or flies around endlessly and doesn't make an appointment, it got to the point where you had to intercept him. All this takes a lot of time and is also unlikely to be intended that way.

Not everyone.

Some of us don’t bother with missions.

Though I occasionally make an exception for station rescues, at least until the passengers start to talk to much.

Have you created an issue ticket about this? Can we vote on it?
There have been issue trackers for the various problems over the last few months. I think the Vistaenis situation, with multiple fights for the same faction, is a new one but as the others have't been addressed what's the point in raising it?

We're now seeing pending wars that don't start, possibly local anti war protestors are holding things up but we can't find them to shoot them.
👆 This one has been annoying me.

My squadron has been heavily messing around with it for the last month or more to some success. One day we'll finally tear FGS down from the top spot on the leaderboard.
I've been waiting to put my faction in control before building a tier 3 in my main system...
A war has been pending for two weeks now - my squadron were ready and waiting to take part in the fight...but I think they've all got bored and started doing other things now
😢

Seriously though. We're all hoping the bgs reverts back to functional prior to PP2.0.
But I have to ask why hasn't that happened?
It's a huge part of elite.
I partake, 1000s of cmdrs do. Huge groups dominate it. Solo cmdrs and small groups participate. So it's not a fringe activity.
And having not heard a word from the gods! Makes me think sommat is coming.

Personally, I think they just have too much on their plate and not enough manpower to handle everything. This is not any "insider knowledge" BTW (I wish I had it lol), just my speculation. They have broken parts of PP2 to still work on, full release of Trailblazers with all of the bugfixing and (hopefully) improvements, the backend is very clearly not coping with the load, which causes the horrible stuttering and on top of that the BGS is completely dysfunctional.

They have introduced A LOT of bugfixes with the last patch, so it's not like they're not fixing the game - clearly they are working hard on that, we get both client and server side fixes. This is really appreciated. So if I were to bet, I would say it's just too much to handle with the limited team they have, so they need to "prioritise". Bear in mind they are also working on the roadmap stuff, so new features and another old feature overhaul AND have couple of other existing games and new game(s?) they are working on and I'm pretty sure the teams are intermixed here and there too.

It's frustrating for sure, as everyone wants their thing to be fix (not to mention the general bugs, old and new). Guess all we can do is wait and see what happens. Personally it feels like the game is simultaneously in the best and almost-worst state it's ever been :D (I say almost-worst, as nothing will beat the Odyssey release disaster)

The lack of communication is disappointing if I'm honest.

Yeah, I don't think there's a reasonable argument that doesn't acknowledge the current fixes that have been made and that the main problem with them telling us they're working on more is never going to be more than a vague "We're in the process of fixing it".

It does however have that feeling of over facing themselves again. PP v2 was not a small update and when do you ever see something like that work perfectly on day one? There's always a 2.1 patch somewhere. Then there's trailblazers which has surprised me with how much this has impacted things- although more systems meaning greater system maintenance should have been predictable. Maybe FDev hadn't expected us to jump into this so heavily.

Still I have my little trial system I'm working on with a Coriolis in place (that bit worked fine). Whether I should be building something to try something out, leaving it because it might not work or won't work because stuff hasn't been but in place or disabled is leaving me a bit confused with this whole beta process.
