There will most likely be more smalls eventually (for all we know, the next 2 ships after the Panther could be smalls), but out of all the ship sizes, large are the most underrepresented.

Only thing: call it the Manta, not the Manta Ray. It's going to sound like another ship either way (Mamba or Mandalay), but it seems less odd when it's only two syllables. : )
I'll tell you one reason this has to happen: I jot down ship ideas all the time, and it just so happens I also have a Saud Kruger ship concept called the Manta, and it's also more of a combat multi-role, and also looks like yours. Off-topic, I remember Manta as the fighters in the original Carrier Command game. Certainly, having a ship named Manta Ray in Elite wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Really, there's probably room for at least three new ships. You could have a small, medium, and large. Large is easy, that would be Manta or manta ray. Medium could probably be Stingray. Small would be a little tougher, maybe something like butterfly ray? All three could use the same proprietary deploying sco stabilizing fins that give it their characteristic appearance.
I have an idea for a new large ship. I'm getting bored of my Fleet Carrier...

The Federal Corvette is an imposing ship with a unique feel, so my wish is a successor to it, a big dangerous battleship with a good flying model like the Corvette.
For the next one, a small ship, specializing in speeding and landing on planets, mapping, etc.. If it was a good small fighter like the viper even better!

It even has a slight SF link as a giant mutated one caused trouble in the film “Captain Nemo and the Underwater City”.
