DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

And whilst I would agree with that, I personally also can't ignore the evolution that I see in these animal pack key-arts where more and more clearly recognizable base game items pop up as silhouettes in them, even where they're actively mixed with new pieces ( Zookeepers with the lanterns and the rope they're on), to a point where using the zookeeper and base game animals for place making just feels like a natural evolution in that regard.
Fair enough. And actually, hearing you frame it in that way makes me raise my own eyebrows again. I hadn't even thought of it from the angle of "more base game items" in general. Because, yeah, that's a very fair point. Not 100% convinced they would extend that to base game species in advertising materials but... I see how one might make that leap.

For me, that's where I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. As one swallow doesn't make summer, one flamingo doesn't mean that all packs are now going to have at least one "almost actual clone".
See, I guess I'm viewing it more as the flamingo was an "almost clone" but there was still value in it. It felt like an upgrade to the base game flamingo while offering some regional diversity. And I feel like we'd get the same from a new elephant species (a decent upgrade from what we already have in-game).

Interesting that we're both talking about "benefit of the doubt" about the same things in totally different ways. :)

Sidenote: Gonna add that "one swallow doesn't make summer" saying to my lexicon. Never heard that one before!

When could we expect the announcement? Personally I think it will BE announced tuesday in a week, the 10th of June and the Release will be in the 17th. At least this would fit with the old Summer dlc released within the week of midsummer.
So far it's been two weeks between teaser reveal and pack reveal. I'd say there is a slight chance it's a bit longer but frankly I also expect it to be within that range.

Quexcelente. Is it just me or are yerba brands losing their flavor too fast? Taragüí and Rosamonte seem to not last as long. Funny, but if I mix those with Playaditos, it seems to last longer
OMG yes! They are all garbage lately. They water down so fast. I think it might be on purpose so we have to buy more lol

I think Taragüi is the one has gone down in quality the most. Mañanita and Playadito are okaish, but i think is better to buy organic yerba mate rather than industrial ones right one. Or idk something from Uruguay lol

Tbf is understandable for people to be upset that they are reselling the asian elephant to us as something new and at the same time taking the place of literally anything else in a paid DLC. With so many animals being constantly skipped over (tree ro, coati, secretary, ducks, pelican, popular new world monkeys, blackbuck, musk ox, etc) it does rubs me the wrong way they prioritize something that has zero demand just because they are probably working on the sequel alongside these DLCs so they have an spare new skin and model for the Asian elephant they can throw into paid content and make a few more coins in the mean time by locking it behind actually wanted animals like the honey badger and lion tailed macaque...

OK i went full on conspiranoic mode in the last bit, but the first half of my statement still stands haha
It all depends on what you see value in, I guess. The tapir is the only animal that has ever really felt like a "true" re-skin for me. The one animal I take issue with in the Americas pack is the coyote and that's more because I don't think it's really justified as a "zoo" animal (which is a subjective/personal take) rather than having anything to do with the way the animal was put together. Heck, I even fully understand why they picked it. I just happen to disagree (and even then, I have like 3-5 interesting habitat ideas for them).

I just have confidence that if Frontier were to give us a new species of something in-game it'll provide some sort of added value. There will be a different size/shape, improved texture, etc. I get that there's a lot being left at the table (#1 tree kangaroo fan speaking here, haha) but I find it hard to say that Frontier doesn't put a lot of love, care, and effort into the animals they include in the rosters.

I agree about the coyote as well, but mostly because it took the place of the coati lol And yes there were better choices than the flamingo but even that one adds something to the game because is such an upgrade from the greater flamingo and is just very iconic. Not my personal preference but i understand the compromise there. Of course i would have swapped the sheep for the mara as well, but i have actually always liked and low key wanted the big horn, just maybe not in that context where there were so many other animals i wanted more (and honestly were more popular or requested than it).

Oh man, so it wasn't just my family🤣
Yeah, it's probably easier to get local organic yerba down there, but I dunno if it'll be easy up here; organic is expensive. I'll just have to deal with inferior mate for a while😐

By the by, what're y'alls theories on an update? Americas didn't have one. Zookeeper sorta had one, if you count the anniversary releasing alongside...

I really dont expect anything else apart from maybe a new plant like with Americas.
With India being the most likely theme people have become alot more vocal about making the basegames india set flexicolor recently.

I do Not think we will get Updates anmyore (perhaps a very small one). Those Times are probably over.

Well to be fair Americas did have one, just like Zookeepers it was with very little content (not saying it to be pedantic, but it's literally how Frontier describes it, they put it under free update ).

Both were just some new foliage, some blueprints and bugfixes; I'd say we're most likely looking at a similar kind of update. So it's less "we're not getting a free update anymore", because we're still getting free content after all, it's just much less than before.

Personally, if we were to get a large long-legged wading bird that ranged from India to Australia, my preference would be these guys:

Triple post, I'm sorry. If this is indeed an India themed pack, can I just say that it's quite interesting that the latest packs have catered towards bringing the map up to green? Despite the choices of the Americas pack, we can't really deny that it didn't add much needed rep to the region. It was that pack that made the map lose red and orange.
Now, India is on the table. It was the only other area, apart from SA, that was yellow and feeling a tad underrepresented. With it, hopefully several key species are added (thus, also filling out some gaps in the roster where a pack revolved around said area could've felt like too much). I can totally see another DLC with a smorgasbord of choices that can fill in the gaps instead of dedicated DLCs
Honestly a really good way of looking at it, even if they aren’t the animals we specifically want, the past couple DLCs have done a lot for certain regions.

I agree about the coyote as well, but mostly because it took the place of the coati lol And yes there were better choices than the flamingo but even that one adds something to the game because is such an upgrade from the greater flamingo and is just very iconic. We're at least slightly in agreement here. If I had my druthers I would have just called it a "Latin America" pack and swapped out the coyote and big horn sheep for two different species... And where I think we might disagree is that I would have also swapped out the greater rhea for another small/climbing mammal. But just because it's not ideal doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, y'know? I still feel like I very much got my money's worth.

But I think the key reason these things happen is right in your post. "Compromise." I don't think Frontier actively makes some of these decisions to just skate by and not put effort/energy into the project. It's more about what can they do with the resources at-hand that players will still enjoy enough to want to buy the pack and will still be interested in the game and future DLCs.

The most IMO natural pack that frontier would push out

India Pack:
Honey Badger
Lion Tailed Macaque
Sri Lanka Elephant
Gaur
Nilgai
White crane
Indian Wolf

Maybe but it's gonna be this month...
We are pretty sure that Jurassic World Evolution 3 is coming in july alongside the movie Jurassic World 4.
Even Planet Coaster 2 has a really big update 6 (with 2 returning theme) coming this june...
And we have to consider the summer holidays... Frontier is normally really quiet from mid-july to mid-august
If the next planet zoo dlc doesn't come out in the next few weeks, it's gonna be end of august or mid september which is pretty far from now.

the perfect roll out is planet zoo next dlc, a week later planet coaster 2 update 6 and a week after that, JWE3 annoncement. 2-3 weeks later, JWE3 is out.
And just for the stats, Planet Zoo makes better numbers than planet coaster 2 on PC...
There is no way JWE 3 will release barely a month after its been properly announced we still havent gotten a trailer or more then some light official confirming. Unlike a dlc where there is only so much content to describe and the audience for the game is already built the first sales of a game are vital to its success and you dont get that by announcing it and selling it faster than most people will get the news.
It also would break their current pattern of releasing all but one cms game in november. Based on the timeline for planet coaster 2 and the movie we will get an announcement next month not the entire game.
Honestly, I think it's because there's just absolutely no room left for the benefit of doubt lately.

It's something that's been going on for a long while now and I think we hit one of our lowest lows as a community when one of the community managers had to step in because for some reason people had convinced themselves that the saki possibly wouldn't have sexual dimorphism just because the one picture we had of them were two males. This to me feels like a continuation of that sentiment.

Again, I don't really care that much about whether or not we're getting another elephant. We're 20 packs in, over 200 animals with the big majority of the heavy hitters already in the game, of course not everything is going to be everyone's cup of tea. I wouldn't put it high on my list either frankly. But it was always going to be inevitable that we'd end up here with the community being divided as much as we are when it comes to packs ( because really, I've seen just as many people being super happy with Americas as people who call it mid).

So, is it possible that we're getting another elephant? Absolutely. Are there other reasons as to why they could have included an elephant in the key-art but not putting it in the pack? For sure, plenty have been given so far. So maybe we should just wait this one out for once. It absolutely wouldn't be the first time a pattern gets broken, and it would certainly not be the first time we get upset over something we shouldn't have had.

I don't know about you, but as much as I absolutely loathe toxic positivity, maybe getting all worked up ahead of time isn't worth it either.
Yeah I once said this was the least toxic community I had ever been in. Since that statement 3 years ago we have spiralled as a community all the joy has been lost because we have just consistently had even of most reasonable ideas beaten down and ignored to the point where people are now no longer willing to admit what they actually want and instead create ideas they hate simply because thats what they assume will happen. As a community we have lost hope the ever looming threat of is this the end has turned to please let it be the end. Frontier has given the community as whole depression and it is really a shame.
