What ship do you use for exploration/exobiology?

I'm just curious as to what other people use, when I first started exploration I saw a lot of posts recommending X ship with whatever parts or Y ship with whatever parts
It makes a huge difference depending on:

1. Exploring in/around bubble or deep space for an extended duration.
2. Exploring with a fleet carrier or a single ship.

I prefer to use a fleet carrier for extended deep space trips and I launch from the carrier either a Viper4 or Eagle Mk2 for exobiology. These ships I have equipped specifically for exobiology fully engineered with A-rated thrusters, distributor, and shields. Good accel, decel, handling, and boosting away from the planet. Very small landing footprint. I can smack into a mountain and its fine. Jump range is irrelevant, but both are over 35Ly. In sparse regions I use my DBX with long jump range.

I achieved exobio elite v using a primarily a DBX well before the Mandalay was released. I liked the DBX jump range, small footprint and for exobio, I found the rear exit useful. I also did a little with a Dolphin in the past, but nowadays, it's the Mandalay.

Haven't done much exobiology lately other than some opportunistic sample collection. But my No. 1 choice is definitely Cobra V*. 65 ly jumprange can be achieved, which is comparable to Asp X before the special FSD-s became a thing; the speed and maneuverability are great; and the forward/downward view from the cockpit is excellent.

Mandalay is great, too, but the height of the ship makes "hugging the ground" while seeking for Frustrexa hard.

Honourable shout-outs to Courier, Viper IV and Cobra III🙂

*But, in all honesty, it's my No. 1 choice for everything that doesn't involve bulk hauling🤪

for getting lost in the black on long trips, Mandaly has no rival (before SCO Phantom or ASPx),
for short trips any ship is good (provided it has SCO).

I'll umteenth the Mandalay. Awesome ship for explo for the reasons already stated. I also engineered a Cobra mkV but haven't tested it yet.

I'm using a Mandalay. Before that I had an ASPx but I also tried the krait, none of them compare
I used Asp X originally, about ten years ago, then Krait Phantom, then DBX due to its tiny landing profile (useful for mountainous terrain), and now the Mandalay on most of my accounts.

Exploration: Originally the Asp Explorer. Retired that for the Krait Phantom, which I still use, unless I require native SCO, then it's the Cobra V.
Exobiology: Sidewinder, that ship can land in the eye of a needle if needed and handles itself pretty well in SCO.

I guess I'm the odd man out. When I'm out in the black exploring or doing bio I prefer the Dolphin. It does everything but fight, it runs away and avoids interdiction easily. I have It modded with all the good stuff. It's a joy to fly. For bubble combat I am a fan or the Krait Phantom. With some luck and a little skill, It won't let you down. If Frontier is listening, we need stuff to do that isn't space trucking. It's so easy to fill the materials bins I have no need to do missions anymore. I miss the Thargoids! o7 Commanders.

ASP, I can't bothered engineering any of the new ships, this one took long enough
Same for me, I've been using an AspX for ages ever since my third year playing this game. I've got it engineered just right to 42.2 light years with the current loadout of stuff. Been to beagle point and back with it.

I loved my Dolphin it took me to all 42 sectors
Ive even managed the blue snowball which is about 246 lyr from any other system . I went to Beagle twice once with a 44 Lyr 2017 and then again 54 Lyr in 2020 ish .
I do have a Mandalay and even with basic engineering with what I want it's 84 Lyrs in storage .
Most of my ships are exploration builds and the longest was the phantom at 60 . My newest is a viper mk4 50 Lyrs ..
My advice has always been pick a cockpit you like cos your going to be looking at it a lot . Then engineer and see what you end up with jump range . Huge jump range isn't a must for me as it hasn't stopped me getting to where I want it just takes longer .
Oh and enjoy the exploration ..

A very fine choice sir, please do take advantage of our complimentary premium parking spot reserved for vessels of a smaller footprint.

A cockpit you like and NO FREAKIN' BOBBLEHEADS 😡
There's no livery options out in the black!

Sorry, just had to get that out of my system 😅
