Just read that thread.
Proper shame on Frontier for not supporting 3D vision...
I would like to see 3Dvision support, but it's not a game-breaker for me. Still, if it was available I'd use it.
3D Vision has been around for years and years, its a mature technology with a large install base and produces fantastic results. It transforms your gaming experience in much the same way as the oculus rift (minus the head tracking but plus full res) by giving you a true sense of depth and scale to the games environment.
Frontier have made such a fuss over Oculus rift and the general "immersive" nature of ED and being IN your cockpit yet they've not implemented support for by far the most widely available and installed stereoscopic technology around?
WHY?
Why why why why why...
Get it together guys! It can't be that hard. Launching a game like this without 3d vision support is absurd.
What world have you been living in? 3D may have had a few false starts over the years but today virtually every new TV supports 3d through active shutter glasses, virtually every new big budget movie is released in 3d, 3D Vision has been on PCs for many years with a huge array of games that support it there are sports events and movies broadcast in 3d, 3d bluerays.... Sure it still needs glasses (except the hugely successful Nintendo 3DS) and arguably the best form of 3D content is games on a PC where the monitor is up close to you but still you must of been living under a rock not to notice that it actually has been improved to a satisfactory level and will only continue to improve. What world do you live in. 3D does not work, it has never worked, it will never work. For more than 40 years the industry has tried to introduce 3D. If it was any good it would have been developed and improved to a satisfactory level. It isn't and it hasn't and it never will. 3D!!
3D Vision is a specific technology that uses active shutter glasses. It ought to be possible for FDev to take the side by side and/or anaglyph tech and adapt it to 3D Vision. But they haven't.perhaps I'm misunderstanding but there is support for 3d. I was playing it the other week in side by side mode
unless they removed it or I misunderstand the question.
Yet they took the time and effort to support both Oculus Rift (which doesn't even have a consumer model yet) and anaglyph (which is very old school). In fact having come this far you would of thought it wouldn't take much extra effort at all to support the one stereoscopic tech that is widely available, gives great results and is relatively cheap for people to buy into, if you've not tried it I strongly suggest you give it a go its amazing! Far far better than the effect you get at the cinema.OP - It's about priorities. FD have more important things to do than develop something that very few people will use.
I have a GTX660 & a 3D capable monitor, but I'm not going to pay Nvidia for a technology I might use only once. I don't think I'm untypical in that, & I expect that FD are aware of how many people DO use 3D, so they'll spend the money where it has the most effect.
Just because it is widely available and all TV's have the ability does not make it a success. The ONLY reason it is constantly shoved in our faces every ten or so years is so the industry can screw more money out of people.
It is rubbish and will always be second rate. I predict in another 40 years it will still be rubbish, may be better but still rubbish.
"Far far better than the effect you get at the cinema." but still rubbish.
What bit doesn't work? I tried it out in alpha and though it had some glitches it seemed ok. Doesn't it work anymore?
Also hey have been working on it there are a couple of posts here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=24719&page=4&p=716504&viewfull=1#post716504
I presume you've never actually tried 3D Vision gaming then right because it is like the difference between black & white and colour or 320x240 and 1080p. Anyone who had actually spent any time with it would know that its a mature technology that works and produces great results.

The star field is at the wrong depth as are many of the point lights in the cockpit and on stations. I gave up at that point as it was hurting my eyesIts probably not a lot to fix, its similar to the problems Oblivion originally had until a user stepped up and fixed it. Unfortunately ED doesn't having any modding support as yet so it'll be tougher for the users to fix this time.
