Fed Scam

True Story.

I take a job for the feds to retrieve some rebel transmissions in a local system. Easy enough. Soon enough I have the transmissions in hand.

I am nearly back at the station to hand in the rebel plans and receive my pay when I an interdicted by the feds, scanned and fined for carrying stolen cargo...The rebel plans they contracted me to get!

The best part is the fines are more than the mission is worth.

Nice scam feds, Nice scam. This should be fixed.

End transmission.

that's why you should never trust feds :D

black boxes, rebel transmitions etc. contract details states that that job is considered illegal, so beware of doing any of those.. or at least do them from outposts where chance of getting caught is low

When you read the mission description, it'll tell you whether it will be considered illegal should you get scanned. BTW, so far, any mission involving scooping up anything will fit this description.

Not if it's a covert operation. The officials who sent you don't want the knowledge of what their doing to get out, so if you aren't careful enough to avoid getting caught, then it's you that gets run over by the bus, not them. Most of the ones I've seen like this state something like "hey, if something happens, we don't know anything".

You revived a mission the higher ups don't want to be associated with. You get caught you're on your own.

Working as intended.

Clearly didn't read the bit in the mission briefing where it says "This activity is considered illegal".

Ain't nothing to fix. 'Cause ain't nothing broken.

Absolutely agree. Dirty Feds. Harrassment, bribery, blackmail, assassination. They're a stain on the fabric of spacetime.

I think the thing that really makes me angry is that getting caught with illegal cargo has a much more negative effect on your rep that turning in the missions has to the positive. I just cant win. I lose money and rep.

I see the point, but perhaps (assuming that missions work right) it's not the reward of this mission, but its success leading to more missions from the same faction, that is the long term reward.

yep working as intended you're meant to be clandestine !

ps. on the issue of the Feds I'm only building my rep up so I can get any goodies before I betray them for the Indies :)

Honestly, there needs to be more ways to shake scans. Right now it's "hope they don't spot you"

IMO Electronic Countermeasures and Chaff should play havoc with scans.

Yes it is broken.
No it will never be fixed, it is part of the "vision"

How there are no Faraday Cages in this universe is still unknown.

If I were doing not only would I have ECM and Chaff effect scans i'd include a "Smuggling Cargo Bay" that you could pick up in Anarchy systems or other pirate stations. If it was the only cargo bay you had it'd make a scan fail 20% of the time to detect cargo.

But if you had another normal cargo bay, it'd cause the scan to fail 80% of the time to reveal the Smuggling Bay's contents. (And by default illegal goods would be deposited in it.)

Let's just let the FD design team spend some time designing that mechanic instead of decent pew pew a week after launch, shall we...?

the "Blackbox" missions are really, can you clean up a mess for me please? Like the fact I killed someone for something... so its a "cleaners" job which is illegal.

The "Rebel Transmissions" Honestly... the companies you get it from make it sound more 'offical' but it is still considered illegal. Why? No real Idea, maybe the whole, secret" thing but if that's the case it should fail the mission for getting caught not get you fined for having it.

It would be basically the cops asking the public for help trying to find a usbdrive and then fining a person for having it in the first place...
