PvE players are not the problem, FD's decision to split the players apart is

I agree with the OP. The rest of ya are just nutless.

I love how the people that are on the OPs side of this argument invariably resort to name calling and bully tactics to get their point across, while those on the other side of the debate attempt to reason with them, and agree to disagree.

Just shows you the quality of the character on each side of this issue.

Never heard of the game befor a month or two ago, never seen that crap on kickstarter, and imo not putting everyone in more than one "world" is stupid, and boring and well a bad business decision.

Thats Great, it sounds like you want to play a nice easy safe game. Perhaps Elite Dangerous is not for you, perhaps you should play something nice and safe like minecraft or Candy Crush instead.
I know a couple of 12 year old girls that will happily show you how....

Really no need for that response, was there?

I am starting the think this topic keeps appearing on the forums here because
current or X EVE players want this to be the "next" EVE and
it just isn't going the way they hoped.

Wow...the first two pages of comments here are useless.
(each one bumping what they apparently see as a worthless thread too)

Anyway, regarding what the OP actually said;

Safe areas would indeed make people much more willing to play with others. A few incentives (like more co-op) wouldn't hurt, but I think the idea of "safer inner areas" will help ease players into the idea of playing with others.
I dont think SOLO should be removed, ever, but encouraging a universe full of others can only be a good thing.

The question to me is how the starting areas should be safer. It should be done in a "in-universe" way....we certainly don't want arbitrary "magic" zones of protection like many MMORPGs have.
I guess more policing? much better deal when getting your ship replaced after being killed? I am not sure of the best way, but something that means people arnt so scared to be shot.

There should be areas of the game more dangerous then others...vastly so....there should be areas to feel relatively safe, and areas were the rewards are higher but pilots should fear.
Diversity makes the universe richer. It feels better to overcome a fear then to never have it too, venturing away will be a bigger deal psychologically speaking and I think make the game more enjoyable.

And you know what? People here scared of hanging out with newbies? Well, you can go only hang out far away from these (relatively) safe areas.

Fair enough, I think it's the right approach for exactly those reasons as this is a game where the learning curve is steep and punishment is harsh.
We shall just have to agree to disagree.;)

I don't think we're particularly at a point of disagreement. I don't think either of us want pre-designated starting areas where players are completely safe.

All I want is a more believable galaxy where a faction core (say Sol for want of example) is much much safer than somewhere out on the edges of the explored systems. In addition it would offer less profit and cost more to 'live' in. Players would have the option of staying in that area, being much safer and making less money.

It's all just part of a (rather weak) meta game and is to be fully expected.

....spend 2 pages going "Uuuuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" ?

You think any of that is polite or mature?

You have very selective reading.

Personally I'd like the thematic differences knowing I'll encounter more humans rather than AI...

Except that doesn't happen. I'll go to a "busy" system and see 1-3 CMDRs over the course of a few days. Either the vast majority of players play Solo/Group, or the matchmaking isn't very good....or both :-/

And why do every single one of these threads blindly overlook groups? Its always open vs solo... groups are never targeted. I wonder why?

It's because OPEN and SOLO are the big buttons your average player will pick from. Joining a Group takes some out of game research to find a good one. If I try to use the search function, I have no idea what I'm looking for. Even if I just type in PVE or PVP out of desperation nothing will come up. In my opinion, if finding groups was easier and were displayed from a list you could choose from it would be even worse at splitting up the community. At that point FD might as well created OPEN PvE and OPEN PvP modes.

I don't care at the moment since we can't play with our friends reliably anyways, but I feel the pain of some of these "griefers". What is the point of OPEN play if no one is there. But if we are to believe most people around here, that the game would have never been funded and the majority don't want to play multiplayer anyways, then OPEN players wouldn't have a game to play at all let alone an "empty" OPEN player mode.

People refer to EVE because that game has a self sustaining formula which keeps people playing. It is a careful balance between economy and wars, all of which are player driven, they sustain eachother by being dependent on eachother, from that a wide variety of sub professions spawn creating rich diversity allowing people to switch from role A when they are bored to role B, and back again or to role C if they want something new. This is what the EVE players want.

I remember when i first heard about Elite:Dangerous from a co-worker and i started to research it and thought wow this could kill EVE online and even saw a few posts giving reasons so i did more research and said this game looks awsome and watched some twitch for hours while at work and the made the jump and bought the game, i have no regrets and i will continue to enjoy it till i finnly see no more players in open mode then im done and ill move on to the next space sim thats online, thats just how it is, and the same goes for alot of other ppl if ED dosnt start thinking about the bigger picture and stop ruling out options.

Damn good job you don't work for me ! Public sector ?

I'm now convinced that this is a concerted attempt by a guild to consistently bring up the same topic in the hope it will dupe the developers into thinking this issue is affecting a larger number of people than it actually is.

I am happy to debate your arguments for open/solo, but please let's keep it to one thread.

Your argument about an empty universe doesn't apply to me. I play in Mobius's Private PVE group.

Someone recommended a PVP group, go make one of those and all the PVP folks can join there. Since there are apparently thousands of you the universe will be populated with other folks wanting PVP.

honestly as much as ive done pirating and grifing i like helping people somtime too maybe getting tha black box we all love to search for if i have an extra one or just advising a new player a decent trade route ive done, but none of this is reall possible when the systems are void of players.
