Guide / Tutorial Nutter’s explorers guide to the Galaxy

Afraid not, other than the water giant don't remember anything spectacular about them, though. I THINK (and that's a very vague think) they were in the tranche I did between Xi-2 Lupi and halfway to the Coalsack, but that's obviously very little help ;)

Thanks - I'm in that area at the moment (trying to plot a course among all the Lupis is doing my head in!) so if they're at a bright star I may run into them. Fingers crossed.

I would make a guess that they pop up in systems with a lot of mass, with lower-mass systems just having "normal" Hydrogen/Helium gas giants, because the systems with a load of mass floating about will have enough water knocking around to form a giant planet out of mostly water, but with only one data point it's a bit hard to prove :)

I'll keep an eye out anyway and if I bump into another one I'll let you know!

Warning to people going to the core, myself and a few others now have gotten crashes while jumping and are now unable to login to the game anymore.

Now here's a question, and I apologise if there has already been discussion of it.

Occasionally (actually more often than that) I've scanned systems that have not been surveyed but still have stations or outposts in them. Does this pay anything extra? I lean towards thinking it does. What do you peeps think?

As to why there are unsurveyed systems with stations in them? Well, I'm sure there are a number of reasons.

Hey Buddy, could you add to your chart that MASS = More Credits also - the Bigger the mass of the object the more credits earned :) - Then I'll add it to the first thread under a spoiler tag as it's quite big but needs to be :) Great Stuff!

I would but i honestly didn't find that it affect much the payout. We're talking in credit unit, not hundred or thousand. The only factor i've seen increasing my data considerably was the atmosphere composition of planets. Stars always give around 1200-1300 credits no matter which type.

"All Roid Belts = ZERO"

AAARRRRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!ONE111!!111EVELENTYONE11!!!!

I've spent ages scanning these buggers in, and all for nowt. Ah well, not to worry, still lots more exploration to do, so I'll know in future. I always found them a pain anyway, especially the ones close to stars.

Great guide!

Well, you spend ages never seeing one, then two come along at once.

Another Ammonia World, again no atmosphere:

System is well worth a visit, because as well as that there's a metal-rich, two water worlds and three of the planets are terraformable.

Great thread.

kinda sad that when you start to get 200-300LY away from Sol there aren't any stations or outposts.

I really want to get to the center of the 'verse but the trip back is what's gonna bother me..

It may help keep it interesting if you make it a circular trip, rather than a straight there-and-back journey. Someone posted some good exploration maps upthread with points of interest en route to the galactic centre.

I find myself getting antsy as soon as I know I've got a lot of scan data on-board - it's not terribly valuable in cash terms but I can't abide the thought of hard-won scan data on unusual objects. :)

PSB, cool, added to my list of Ammonia worlds to check out. :)
...ach, it doesn't show on the Galaxy Map? WREGOE BW-E D11-60 redirects me to HIP 42909. :(

Really? Can you link me to one? I can't seem to find any and the search function is garbage.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=85123&highlight=

I got there around Dec 19th and was stuck for 3 days before support answered my ticket. They moved me to different sectors surrounding Sag A so I could begin the journey home but they had all become unstable. After a few days back and forth correspondence with game support they said the devs had become aware of the issues and it was best to remove me from the region as a fix for the issue is going to take some time.

If you've ticketed it you can ask them to physically move you out of the core regions, somewhere closer to home where the sectors are far more stable.

I've just scanned the CL Primus Cluster, do you think it's unwise to continue any further towards the centre? Or maybe I should go check out the Omega Nebula Next?

My journey :- https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=88361

Cheers, SK

Omega Nebula seems fine, I passed through there with relatively few disconnects. Its when you get closer to the 3kpc arm when the instability begins to hit home. Disconnections become more frequent until you finally enter a broken system that disconnects you and prevents you from logging back on. Game support have to physically move your ship out of the region for you to play again.

There should really have been an official warning saying that area of the map is off limits until its patched. They were aware of it since at least December 19th. Its sad that players are getting stuck there, everyone I've spoken to who followed have gotten stuck there and some haven't had tickets answered for over a week so can't play.

Aha! Binary pair of water giants in HIP 40906 - 10 and 11, stats and closeups follow:

HIP 40906 is a Class A III giant star. Given the description for water giants in the system info, I'm going to guess they're more likely in systems with a non-main sequence giant, as the increase in size and luminosity of the star as it evolves cause more energy to arrive at outer massive icy planets which flips them into a water giants.

Whether I'm just blathering on nonsensically or whether the proc gen is really REALLY clever and actually doing that, I'll leave up to you :)

Edit: lol 40906, I can't read.

Just found a system with two black holes $$$! :)

They are a nightmare to find without the advanced scanner because you can't see them, I went back for one after my first exploring trip
