So I visited a pulsar...

My understanding is that globular clusters are extra-galactic. Satellite mini-galaxies, if you will (though not to be confused with the likes of the Magellanic Clouds). I may be inaccurate in saying that, but if I'm not, that certainly puts globular clusters well outside the jump range of any ship. In any case, for exploratory purposes ED has more than enough to see within the galaxy proper, I would have thought.

That's true for the most part. There are a few extra galactic clusters in the game, although I'm not sure if you could reach them.

Then why put them in?
This may not be relevant at all, I'm just curious.
Practical thinking and all that...

Did someone say...planet surfaces...!?!?!

Exactly how I felt reading that post too lol

How about fixing the influence system, several systems are stuck with a faction expanding that ae stuck at 9%, micehal instead of looking at pulsars are u fixing an important and broken gameplay feature

Edit: This is how the pulsar sounded ;)

For Gods sake, man, how can you not link to the original version? If Vangelis heard that he'd have a stroke! ;)

Fix pulsars, and if theres any factionals in those systems fix tose to

And they have lovely views of the galaxy when you're there :)

Michael

Speaking of lovely views, one of the things I was interested in seeing in the game was comets, and prior to release there was a statement that "comets are already in the game, you just can't see them yet." Are we going to be able to see them sometime soon?

Here's a reasonably dumb question, as far as nerd questions: might there be any chance that the Oort Cloud be included? It would be pretty awesome to have a sphere surrounding the Sol system that includes a furious number of comets trapped in orbit (I grant you that the comets are approximately the distance of the sun to Saturn away from each other, but hey... that'd still be neat!)

@ollobrains
There are obviously separate teams and individuals that specialize in certain aspects of the game, and I am actually much more interested in a physically active and interesting space exploration experience rather than faction influence unless there is a SERIOUS expansion to the game in regards to political activity.

@Leslie
While including the Oort Cloud, and similar structures in other star systems, would provide a more accurate galaxy the massive distances between individual objects in an area the size of the Oort Cloud would likely make the increased number of planetesimals rather difficult to find. But it could make for some interesting mining possibilities. Of course, in an ideal simulation, one could even offer a contract to tow a comet into a planetary orbit in exchange for a HUGE fee. Or, on the evil side, tow a comet INTO a planet for a big fee(and a warrant for Crimes Against Humanity).

Hi Michael,

Is FDEV by any chance still giving any consideration to the old debate about hyperspace drop distance from stars? As it stands we are pretty much dropping at distances almost linearly proportional to the star size which makes most of them look very similar in size every time (even Canis Majoris) when you arrive.

Is there any chance that the hyperspace drop distance could be tweaked to be not as linear as it looks so to help with the "wow" factor? I.e. something like:

OnFire-PerSlopeVsAngle.gif

Just replace "Slope" with size/radius of star and "Angle measurement" with hyperspace drop out distance from surface of said star to get the gist of it (no need to intersect at zero etc). Presume there are technical / code limitations (texture resolution, supercruise and gravitational code?) for it, but hey.

I'd love to see this changed, too!
