Space Creatures

In Starglider they were flying in space in the vicinity of a gas giant... not in the atmosphere.

Not sure if DB caught that, though

May i suggest that only primitive planet systems have space wildlife.
They would probably be considered pests and irradicated with high levels of radioactive pollution on more populous and advanced worlds.

In my opinion, space creatures should be limited to where there are suitable energy sources and complex enough chemistry to make interesting lifeforms... Also, I hope that Frontier don't wuss out and go down the boring Earth-parochial method of alien design. If I see bi-pedal aliens with arms and hands and fingers, and eyes above noses above mouths, I'll be disappointed at the lack of thought and imagination that's gone into it...

Tardigrades can survive in space :)

It's the UV radiation in space that kills tardigrades. They're fine with the low pressure and the low temperatures (though they go on lock-down). Also, they're about a millimetre across with just a few thousand cells.

Of course in space there's bound to be weird things we could never imagine. But they should be rare, and certainly big stuff would be almost impossible purely down to resource constraints. Big life needs a whole ecosystem and foodchain around it.

Regarding life on other planets, its already been indicated that there'll be big game hunting, and the Frontier manual has references to a particularly popular hunting planet with dinosaur-esque animals. Not sure whether hunting dinosaurs with lasers would excite people or make them groan :p

Darren come to Kowden and join me on safari as we hunt the DeenoKoo a huge bovine prehistoric creature that has adorned the landscape for many centuries... weirdly tastes like chicken..

However the skins are large enough to manufacture 3 full sized onesies from without needing to stitch pieces together.

Dinosaur hunters: I don't think a personal laser weapon is feasible unless you carry a reactor on your back like ghostbusters.
Some space creatures may occupy a lot space while not possessing much density like a solar sail made out membrane.

Aye Psykokow, we could become the KooKillers Extraordinaire! Using their skin we'll make a full-size DeenoKoo onesie. I'll go on top and you go on bottom as we impersonate the reptilobovine beasts to join their ranks and strike from within!

Okay, we'll just have to resort to fisticuffs then!

Pack your kevlar body armor, a power glove, and a first aid kit.

Ok, curious as always with various peoples replies am I wrong in thinking that Elite Dangerous is a science fiction game?

Some creatures, so why not, but not too much and rather in very remote systems. However additional civilizations like Thargoids would be really great

Yeah, but they seem to be trying to play it straight. No AG (boo), no AI (yay), few intelligent aliens (yay). Tech seems to be recognisable to us with the exception of the hyperdrive, but you have to allow for things like that (and a universal translator if dealing with aliens real-time, which we won't have to do).
