Thanks for the response Bikky
I never used a stock heatsink - I use a Noctua NH-U12P. Really good and never had a problem with it. So I'm probably good to go as far as a bit of OCing goes.
But just as a matter of reference I'd like to know what GPU would bottleneck my CPU at stock speeds.
Thanks
no idea on that. I only found out my old gt4800 was bottlenecking my old AMD 3400 2.8ghz (oc'd to 3.2ghz) when I upgraded the mobo/cpu/hdd/ram, and my counter strike FPS went from 50ish to 100ish.
However my gfx card was also overclocked, about 12% increase on gpu and 8% on RAMDAC.
Overclocking is so easy now because it's expected, so manufacturers supply software to just click and go. Mine actually autotuned to 4.2 on the cpu, so I could risk instability and take it to probably 4.4. but no point, I'm getting 300fps in counter strike source, and that's the max ingame FPS i've got set, I keep meaning to change that cvar but only remember after i've started the game. oh and i'm currently on a 6800gtx nvidia overclocked. I'm looking at the 670/680/690 for ED
