Update on this one for you:
We've already penalised a number of players as a direct result of players posting information on here and in videos on Youtube.
Our name and shame policy won't apply to those bringing a Youtube video to our attention. If you do post a Youtube video or something outside of our own channels clearly displaying what looks like an exploit or hack of some kind, there won't be any ramification. Thanks.
Many have already posted the basic methodology behind hacks as well as some ad hoc easy to implement fixes. I am more than aware that this will not stop all the issues highlighted, though it would reduce their number and thus the effect on the player base.
There are even some on here in this thread and others who have offered "free advice" yet thus far it appears none have been contacted...
I understand that somewhere at FD is a list of priorities based on business, cost, feasibility and player feedback (At least I hope). Yet looking back, it seems that literally nothing has been done. I am not a beta backer so I can not say for sure having had no accesses to earlier versions of the game, but some members of this community would no doubt confirm or deny any such suspicions.
It is easy to post rules and regulations regarding posts yet. The player base needs to know what is being done, and what to look for.
I would suggest a sticky explaining known hacks as a form of disclosure this would stop many false reports and accusations.
For instance if the bad guy with guns is not a hacker it would be unfair to label him so. But due to confusion over what is and is not possible he has not doubt been reported as such.
It would also be of great help if sock puppet accounts were removed especially those of any MOD who may use such (just in case any exist)
Any stickied forum thread, would of course need input from devs and I would not want to be the mod responsible for that tread... Especially given the nature of some of the more extreme nature of certain hackers.
I request again some sort of reply from the devs (plural) as we do not want a repeat of the warz debacle, especially the potential of hostile media to take advantage of the issues raised.
Could you imagine the negative impact of an expose on sites such as "the register" given they employ some VERY competent guys in this particular field.
I suppose we are all aware that hackers can ruin a game, even just a handful. Never mind that a working point and click easy to use hacking tool is only a few weeks away (Maybe sooner).
But many of use understand it is not an ideal situation but if FD were at least open many would give them far more latitude than at present.
I suspect that if given the information many would still choose to play even in open if they knew their concerns were being dealt with.
an example is most of us played all manor of buggy sequels, we suffered crashes and worse in the "good old days" yet we still played.
Just about all of us here want this to be a success despite many flaws and faults with ED, we are still sticking with it. How many of games company's have such a loyal fan base (look at the white knights who post it's all OK even after issues have been admitted by FD)
please don't lose the respect of the fans by doing or saying nothing...
