Hardware & Technical What Keyboard?

As per thread title....looking for a new keyboard. My current 15-year-old cheapo model needs replacing and I'm looking for something 'decent'. Main uses will be entering data into spreadsheets, emails and (of course) playing Elite Dangerous.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Check ebay for a 1990's IBM PS/2 keyboard - absolutely built like tanks and will last forever. You can use a USB adapter if needed, and there's no annoying windows key :)

I use a Logitech G15 and it's really nice and really solid. Wasn't cheap though and the built in screen is no more than a gimmick.

It's not just for gaming. And with only a hour or so a few times a week on Elite I wouldn't class myself as a gamer ;).

It has to be good for typing.
I would reccomend a fairly simple mechanical keyboard. One that I purchase for my clients, and is a huge hit is this from Steelseries:http://steelseries.com/products/keyboards/steelseries-6gv2

Awesome keys, conservative simple design. It is quite heavy and robust.

On the other hand, since you mentioned spreadhseets, perhaps you are a macro user? In that case I strongly recommend that you find a store and test Logitech's Orion Spark: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-gb/product/rgb-gaming-keyboard-g910

I say test, because a lot of reviewers hate the shape of the keys for typing. However, the tactile feel and quality of their Romer-G keys are second to none, and in my opinion Logitech's macro programming suite has nice clean interfaces and are easy to use. Problem with the Orion Spark is that it is quite pricey as you get a lot of "useless" gaming hype stuff like the RGB lit keys, that you probably don't need. But it looks cool :)

RGB keys arent needed but it certainly looks cool, helpfully if you play lots of games as you can group by color for themes
