I'm expecting that what most people can see of me in the game will be my ship, so it's going to be the ship that represents me most. Therefore I think the ships name should have some meaning, someone who reads it should get a general idea who I am and and of course what my ship means to me.
There's many names of people, mostly historical, whose work or life impressed me or that I admired for one or the other reason. But whenever I imagine how these names might look, written on a bulkhead, the letters are golden and the ships wall had a shimmering white color, belonging to a big passenger cruiser ('Leonardo da Vinci') or a diplomatic government vessel ('Mahatma Gandhi'). Maybe someday when I become tired of exploring the galaxy and try to make some money by running a passenger cruiser that's an option.
Like obviously many others here in the forums, I plan to begin my game exploring the galaxy and I hope for a long and interessting jouney. Between the books on my shelf there's an example of Homers 'Odyssee' and if you ever read it I'm sure you must agree that it is a remarkable piece of literature (if you haven't, do it, you won't regret it to give it a try).
Of course I won't name the ship 'Odyssee' 'though it has a certain sound that I like. But Jim Lovell also thought it to be a cool name, when he named the command module of Apollo 13 that way and we all know what happened to that vehicle.
So right now I think that 'Athene' or 'Pallas Athene' sounds like a good name for my ship. She's the greek godess of wisdom, strategy and combat. All things that might come in handy to have in the far-out regions of the galaxy. Since in the book the godess is the one that gives support to Ulysses finding his way home through unfriendly waters and epic adventures.
Definitly a good name for a ship.
Nice personal side of it: my dad's favorite car was the legendary Citroén DS (french 'déesse' means 'godess''), he owned at least three of them. Maybe you know the car from TV, in Battlestar one can be seen in a backround and in Caprica Joseph Adama drives one.
Maybe I'll change my mind for it's still lots of time for reconsideration, but right now its 'Pallas Athene'
