Don't 'fix' the docking computer

Just read that the docking computer will be fixed/better in 1.3.

Probably just me then that loves the fact its terrible. I like that it works well like maybe once every 1000 landings. I say leave it broken but give it some attitude through the ships voice.

[Probably best I don't come back and read the replies to this thread]:D

DC works fine since 1.2, AI dev said she is making additional tweaks for 1.3. am sure this whole 'DC is broken' things come from people that actually haven't tried it since Early release :)

Not once has it crashed any of my ships, and Anaconda roof scraping is a thing of the past.

I havent used one for a month or so, couldn't spare a rack to put one in. When I did it always landed with a bump n scrape.

Currently it's not great at outposts but seems fine in stations. While I'm trading I use it as it gives me a chance to plot out the next part of my route while I land. At outposts I switch it off and dock manually.

I can not use the DC with my Python in the outpost (landing pad size M). The ship simply floats above the platform without descending to land

You have to wait about 2 min and then it does it - but if you feel lazy, I guess it's OK. No accidents for me either.

Landing in stations is very smooth now, Haven't tried it in outposts. In all honesty I rarely use the DC, only installed permanently on my T9 & Conda since I can spare the 4T rack... Oh, and the Clipper

During 1.2 Beta testing I tried it on all the ships

Why on earth would anyone waste an inventory slot on something that merely docks your ship a lot slower?

If the docking computer were to be a viable option, it would have to speed the process up, not slow it massively like is the case now.

I use it extensively during trade runs so that I can do something else for 2m like stretch, get a snack, read email, etc. Trading runs are monotonous, so anything that breaks it up is a good thing, IMHO.

I am amazed that there's no leveling to the DC, though. I'd expect at least a basic (maybe does only outposts?) and an advanced (maybe does all ports?).

It'll be a lot faster in 1.3. Navigation runs at full thrust and full ENG pips on approach. It won't get stuck hovering at outposts (okay, so the new dive to pad might be a bit scary at first... ;) ), plus a load of other tweaks... All the outpost problems will soon be a distant memory... :)

It doesn't do to well on pad 26 and 20. Never had it fail for any other of the pads. At outposts just aim really high at the pad and you can skip the 20 seconds of climb before the descent.

Pad 26 will occasionally stop in the slot and start spinning in place, or until you get wedged in there.
Pad 20 it stops about 10m higher than the pad and then docks you really hard, don't do it without shields.

The new fixes are going to be great. :)

I will light a candle for the docking computer I knew and loved (but didn't use much). May its useless soul rest in bits and bytes.

This sounds pretty interesting, might finally try one out.

I think the docking computer should have a personality, depressed but in a funny way, happy etc. So when you engage it the computer gives audio clues to it's current state of mind. Watch out for that going to crash in a fit of depression moment :)

Just when i started getting used to disabling the module with the outpost in sight :D
