Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread [See new thread]

But all modes are not equal. Open had an exclusive ‘First to Elite’ competition'. Open had an exclusive ‘Nvida graphics card’ challenge. Wings is pretty much entirely open & groups (nothing for solo). But open players are still not satisfied and want even more. It seems that open players constantly expect other mode players to give up something to make them happy

You had access to all those features as well, players who choose to click "Open" are still just Elite players, with the same chances and options as YOU. Also I do not think the "Race to Elite" was Open only (though I am unsure, as I did not bother with it in any way). Though really, did you think you would win a gfx card? Or be first to Elite? It is hardly some privilege open players are enjoying at your expense now is it? What is it that "Open" players are asking for at your expense? If anything Solo players get to contribute more to the universe. When I do trade community goals, I jump to private group, so not to be interrupted by PvP (because that is a choice we ALL have). Why do you have to persist with this notion that there are two games happening here?

Yup, this is EXACTLY it

These Open Moders won't be happy until Solo / Group is removed - and then they will leave, as they've run off a fair chunk of the player base and ruined the game.
Funny how, if you go check the Star Citizen forums, how many of those names are over there, or long time EVE players moaning about people leaving on those forums...

Jealousy is a strong motivator it would seem.

Nothing I've personally suggested takes anything away from solo and group.

The modes are an illusion anyway as there's one game and match making flags to decide who you want to see in game. That's why FD run competitions in open as that's technically Fd's vision for how they want the game to be played.

As for advantages you actually earn less money with wings than you would on your own, they're only used for pvp so no advantage on solo or group and there's no multiplayer mission content for it.

The reasons why we have issues with community goals is the way they're set up currently it's easier and more effective to do them in solo so in the instances of community goals solo and group players actually have an advantage in shaping the galaxy and background simulation.

I'm not asking to change them but either improve the ai so community goals are just as dangerous for solo/group players or make some community goals open only.

lol, what is this thread about?

You are trying to make the fundamental topic in this thread into something more palatable to you.

Can't bring your self to say the game is actually balanced can you? The fact is, "is it is balanced" very well from a players prospective.

OK, let me ask you this. I want to be specific here. I'm simply considering you, as a player. I want no mention of modes.

How are you the player being cheated, when you have access to virtually all modes of play, all the time? Aside from preference! Because your preference isn't any more valid than mine, if I choose to "HIDE" in solo, that's my preference.

So full well knowing you have access to all modes 24-7, just like me. How is this game unfair to you? How is this not completely and utterly balanced to every single player in this game?

Discuss modes without discussing modes?

I'll try . . .

I bought this game because it was marketed as an online open world multiplayer version of elite with the option to play with just your friends or on your own.

I bought it to play in open and thought everything worked fine until community goals came out. I use different modes myself as I sometimes play in a group with my rl friends so this suits me fine.

However when it comes to community goals blockade goals in particular, if I'm supporting a faction that is opposing a trade goal there is no way for me to influence the outcome if the opposing faction (doing the trading) is in solo.

The way those particular goals are set up there are no equivalent npc ships trading in open with the goods from the community goal as npcs don't count towards it so open players are left unable to influence the galaxy in that respect.

You can do nothing to stop a player in solo from trading if you are in open. This is wrong.

This is so much LOL. It is a forum thread about the merits of game modes. Tin Foil hat much? How could anyone just disagree with you, it must be a conspiracy between from the enemy camps :D I cannot believe you are so threatened by a group of people who play in a different game mode, and who do not affect your game at all.

Perhaps after 1.3, there will be more NPC pirate activity in systems where blockades are enforced, to make it seem a bit more real and dynamic.

What has arbitrary IQ measures have to do with this discussion?

You arbitrarily decided everyone else is getting more than you - and refuse to accept your wrong.
So, he can arbitrarily decide something as well - you know why? Because he has an equal right to do the same as you :p

Who says it's wrong? Frontier Developments? David Braben? Or some players who want to be able to do it so that they can win?

It is pretty obvious why it is "wrong", it means the result of the goal will not be an accurate representation of what took place, as blockade goal players could not prevent the trade. It is therefore unbalanced. One way to counter it would be to have NPC trader deaths take away from the goal, so that players in ALL game modes could gain from blockading.

I'm sorry? Excuse me? Perhaps I am an anti social pedant who doesn't like playing with other people, but LOVES the elite universe / franchise... Who the heck are you to say its wrong for me to play solo?

Fair point. Everything in this thread is an opinion. You have missed the question though. I'm wondering why he has insinuated IQ to any of my posts? Have my posts been stupid? Posted badly? Indecipherable?

I asked who says it's wrong. It's not wrong to me.

Well the OP obviously THINKS it is wrong, it is his opinion, it is pretty simple to understand. That aside, did you read my justification? Up until now community goals, especiall trade ones, were one sided. Now that they introduce blockading as a goal for the other side, how could a solo player hope to take part in this and affect the outcome of the goal? By the same token, an online player could not affect the goal because all the traders are in solo. It is a balance issue that affects everyone.

That is not what he said though. That is a strawman.

I'm not threatened at all, talk about making assumptions.

And, the Open mode advocates are trying to have an effect on everyones game - proven in this thread if you care to check.
You can also check the forum names off versus the other games, I browse the SC forums as there is some crossover between the games and I played EVE - go look for yourself.
So no "Tin Foil hat" needed thanks.
I also see some Star Trek Online names here as well, but most of those are happy to, you know - play the game FD made, not whine for the loss of players from their other game or try and change this to be STO with cockpits, unlike EVE players wanting EVE with cockpits.
