Got my Rift the other day. Decided that with the spare cash, even with the resolution issues, it would be worth getting a hold of this thing.
I wasnt wrong. Paired with an x52 hotas, and saitek combat pro pedals, along with voice attack the set up feels incredibly immersive, despite the loss in visual fidelity associated with having to run on lower settings to get stable frames.
Intense sense of presence. Realising my own breathing had synchronized with the pilot represented in game was very bizarre, even more bizarre when I realised the pilots body model is actually female! xD
Cannot wait to see how the technology and the software surrounding it develops - I can see vast progress just being made just by improvements to the underlying APIS and discarding this extended desktop nonsense.
Got alot of playing to do to reduce blur, which im sure is a problem on my end with my eyes.
For those on the fence, I can say that if you have the patience to do a bit of light troubleshooting and a beastly rig, and really want to know where the future of sim games are going, try this. Once it's properly developed, say goodbye to TrackIR.
