Oculus CV Q1 2016 - Finally!

I guess ill start putting back money for the GTXX Titan ZX Gold IV 32GB GPU by Nvidia that will release the same month as the Rift.

And now for the obligatory:

I had a chance to check out the Vive at WEVR's office. They make that underwater demo. The resolution was much better than the DK2, and is suppose to be comparable to the Crescent Bay (and hence CV1).

Talking with a few of the people there, text is still a problem. Designers really need to take into account which font they'll be using. It's not just for HUD purposes like in Elite, but textures on objects with words need to be readable. They expect the Vive to cost quite a bit more than the Oculus CV1. This makes sense as the Vive requires the HMD, 2 controllers, and 2 light houses.

So, while Vive will be a competitor expected to be out before the Oculus, I think the price point of <$400 will be the way for me and plenty of sim players to go. We don't really need to walk around in a 15x15 foot area...until we can walk around our ships! (crap, I might have to rethink this).

Yup, just got mine this week as well, and don't even have it working to the point where I can use it yet.(IPD issues) But I don't mind. Even if this announcement came out several weeks ago, I still would have ordered the DK2 now. I'm going to get close to a years worth of good playtime out of it. :)

I really hope they've done something about the IPD adjustment. It should be easy with two screens.

Having a headset that doesn't slowly slip down my nose will be nice as well.

Yeah, I can't imagine they'd go with a one-size-fits-all for the consumer version.
Guess we'll know in a couple weeks, when they release all the specs. *fingers crossed*

AAAH you beat me to sharing this! Ah well.

I just hope the Pascal is out by then or you can forget getting anything to run on it

The lens interaxial? Yes, that needs to be adjustable- especially for people with freakishly huge IPDs. Potentially, it could reduce the amount of optical correction somewhat, too. On the downside (speaking of noses), apparently the Crescent Bay, which is reportedly a similar industrial design to the CV, no longer allows you to peek out of the little space by your nose- occasionally vital :D

(If it slips, you need to be a little more brutal with your head straps BTW- think medieval dungeon rather than anything well-designed.)

I think it looks stunning, looking forward to seeing it's specs and I wonder with it being a retail product will they need to put a minimum & recommended spec to be able to run it ?

I've been saying all along.. early 2016 :D I can't wait.

Valve released their specs a long time ago, and the resolution specs were below crescent bay.

LOL, I knew it would happen. I bought a DK2 last week, it arrives today. I knew as soon as I did an announcement about CV1 would come, but going in I realized I'd only get a couple months out of the DK2, I just couldnt resist though lol.
Doesn't matter. It is 12 months away. Even if you bought your DK2 in September, it would still be worth every penny. You will see.

I just hope the release won't get delayed further by the ongoing legal issues regarding naming rights.

A few days ago a German court has issued a preliminary injunction declaring the sale of products under the name "Oculus Rift" by Oculus VR as illegal in Germany.
The established company Oculus Optikgeräte GmbH is using the name since 1932 . They sell instruments for optometry. While selling to a totally different kind of customers the products may be considered too similar to rule out the possibility of brand confusion.

For now this dispute only affects Germany. But as Oculus Optikgeräte have been operating woldwide (e.g. as Oculus Inc. in the US) for many years it's likely that they have registered that brand name in other countires as well, so they might take that fight to other key markets, too.

Even if Oculus VR win this in the end the legal process might delay the product release considerably in some markets. A similar case delayed the release of Ubisoft's game "Rocksmith" in Europe by nearly a year (an English rock band had that name AFAIK).

At least next week we should start to get an idea of what a decent build looks like when the specs are released.

Valve released their specs a long time ago, and the resolution specs were below crescent bay.

HTC Vive is listd as 2x 1080x1200 - 25% more pixels than the DK2. I didn't think Crescent Bay's resolution is officially known, but guessed to be 1440p (2560x1440)- 70% more pixels than the DK2. That is quite a bit higher, but some analysts think it's lower, but with a better optimized screen. Also, it's been confirmed to be 2 screens, which may give us some unpredicted resolution.

it's pretty well known that crescent bay was 1440, 1 screen. We now know that CV1 will be duel screens, and I can't imagine the resloution being lower than a prototype that went so far. 1440/90hz/2screens or I will eat my shoe. Im surprised the vive went with such a low res screen.
