Oculus CV Q1 2016 - Finally!

(If it slips, you need to be a little more brutal with your head straps BTW- think medieval dungeon rather than anything well-designed.)

That gets quite uncomfortable over time though. I do play with logitech G930 heatphones. They are quite big with one positive sideeffect: On the top strap i have the nice vrcover velcro that keeps the HDMI cable in line. If i position the velcro right the headphones keep the whole HMD in plase while reducing the weight of the hmd (well sort of) by actually pulling it back. It is comfortable to play for long periods of time like this.

Edit: I fear i will have to buy vive and CV1 both as well unless the rift turns out to be a cheaper vive without input - in that case vive only.

Ditto, I do exactly the same VR cover velcro strap G930 over the top. Have to readjust a few times during gameplay but nothing aweful.

Yeah, it does get uncomfortable, thought it's often a sign that the horizonal and vertical straps aren't doing the same amount of work- took me ages to get that right. The industrial design of the DK2 is a bit primitive in general.

I have VRCover too (thanks to a useful thread here), I do like that extra velcro strap- and also the way that it reduces light ingress around the edges.

The CV1 isn't going to be a "cheaper Vive", it's almost impossible to call right now though. The CV1 will probably have better display resolution. We don't know a lot about the new head tracking system that Oculus are using, but I do love the look of the Vive "lighthouse" stuff and the hand controllers. Grrr! :)

PC Gamer this month has a comparison between the Vive and the Rift CV1. (US magazine version - not sure about UK version). They dedicate several pages and pictures and the author RAVES about VR, first with his experience with Cresent Bay and then his even better experience with the Vive. For the author however the reason why he was favoring the Vive was because it didnt make him motion sick as the Cresent Bay did, and he fully admitted he was very susceptible. This article is probably not for anybody on this forum, as everyone here knows what is covered. It is really for the gamer that has not dug into VR and is curious. I would say it does a fantastic job of familiarizing the average gamer with the two big hitters and the general use of the technology. And the author could not be more positive about the transformation this will have on gaming and on the experience. I do wish he has not so firmly mentioned motion sickness, and that is something that has really gotten out there and bigger than it is.
Great timely article though with pictures and a side by side on who is who in the this battle and what to expect.
** Just an edit here to note the article was not negative about the Rift CV1 - it was very positive about both and noted where each may have the edge. The author did however favor the Vive "room lasers" that he attributed to better positional tracking and less potential motion sickness.

Maybe, just maybe, FD has been working on the CV1 version, or at least preparing for it, behind the scenes and that's why there's been no really big changes to ED's Or support?

I'd love to see a partnership between OR and FD but, with the close ties to Microsoft, I doubt it. You never know though. Then again, I've always had a secret fantasy that FD is working with a vendor to create a in between Warthog/X52 Hotas with ED livery/themed. Personally, unless OR has some super secret killer apps we don't know about, they'd be nuts not to bundle the best OR game out there with the CV1 at release. IMO, of course.

.

I would fully expect FD to be working with the CV1 version. I believe that when CV1 releases we will have the benefit of the increased resolution and the many other improvements to it, as well as ED improvement in their implementation of the technology.

But for me this is still so far off and as I have noted elsewhere I dont yet have a DK2 and am still leaning toward the DK2. Q1 for CV1 means it could be as late as March 31st to quality for that deadline - assuming they do hit that target.

I'd expect it to be as close to Valve's offering as OR can possibly make it, they stand to lose so much momentum if they don't.

I'm going to definitely order the CV1 asap and I'll get Valve's too, depending on the price that is. Problem is, once you go VR you can't go back.
