Ran out of fuel? Been ambushed? Found a novel way to end your trip? Felt gut-wrenched?

Mine is simple. I took myself off on a nice little trip to a Wolf-Ryat star. Not too difficult but I only get about an hour or so a day to play but after 10 days I reckon I had data worth around 5 million credits. So tonight I decided to take the fast route back to the nearest occupied system.

I was around 20Ls from the Orbital Port when I was Interdicted by a Cobra Mk III, Elite Pirate. Not sure what he was firing at me but my shields lasted about 20s. Before I knew it my thrusters were offline and the fat lady broke into song.

GUTTED!!!

So here I am diluting my brandy with tears. Anyone want to join me?

I think I would rather opt to tell my tales of success and perhaps reveal my 100kly+ (assuming I don't die) aged brew of catnip-infused mead!

Just posted this earlier...
So after two to three weeks out in the black I got to the Statue of Liberty nebula.
Almost every system on the way there was undiscovered :)
I detailed scanned all the interesting stuff.
last night found my first earth like undiscovered too, just a few stops from the nebula.
so pleased, time to have a celebratory pit stop.
while sc was charging popped the oven on, back and away we go, ok time to put the pizza in, sc charging nip out pizza in come back and temp at 388% I was just in fuel scoop range! After three weeks of fastest travel I had swopped to economical this meant my fuel scoop completed in a sec and I did not realise I was still in scoop range coz I'm an idiot. Canopy compromised eject. Pop.
then reprieve couldn't connect to server to restart rebuy! I'm alive! I log on yes alive I tells ya!
log on today I'm dead :(
one stupid mistake and pow right in the kisser. Ah well didnt fancy the flight home any way

losses 2-3 weeks of time, a few hours each night. 800k rebuy data loss aprox 10 mill (guesstamet)

Still might pop back for that earth like though and those 5 neutron stars...

All the feels i have for you, personally i'm terrified of going back to human space...i left when there where only one bad guy per interdiction...now there can be 9
Wings make me want to stay home...at least 2kly from human space :p

This makes me think it's time to give voice to an idea!

When heading back to civilised space why not post in the forums (specific thread to be created) and arange to rendevous just short of civilisation and bring the data home in a wing of 3. The 2 WingCos to receive, say - 5% each of the profits.

This would give explorers who are between trips something profitable to do and bolster the sense of community we are building with our fellow explorers.

Thoughts/Comments?

Tears are good in lemonade, with a shot of vodka in it; it's the salt.

I bought a new Clipper with the returns from a great big exploring trip. Dang, that thing was fast! On the maiden trip out, I got stuck with another Clipper in the slot and the orbital's guns opened up on us both. I still had the insurance, but -- talk about a humiliating start for your nice new ship.

I approve of this idea, maybe a thread for "escort requests" or something?
EDIT: Im not sure that the profit is even a motivation, most explorers know the terror of coming home again, a wing of armed escorts to make three to four jumps with you would be very nice. I think most of us would do it on principle.

Or, they have a confederate who's not in wing show up for a shakedown.

I see this working only if the prying eyes of potential pirates do not set their gaze upon it. Plenty of trustworthy companions here among us explorers. I imagine, however, that there are plenty of opportunists looking for new ways to grief...

Very good points both Katejina and Murishani. We all have a large friends list of fellow explorers who aren't interested in attacking fellow explorers so that we have a large pool of trustworthy friends.

Once you put out a call for help in a general area the details can be sorted out in PM to keep them secret.

wow thats worse than my sob story. Really feel your pain there. Mine was all my fault and I have the benefit of not having to travel back. Have some rep :)
