Powerplay Beta 1.3 live, lets test if it improves performance for VR!

Performance in res's and in station is substantially better. My GPU's aren't maxing out anymore with DSR and ultra settings. They each run 45% in station. RES's I'm not sure -- enjoying them too much to look at hwmonitor, so that's a good sign.

I tried the new 0.6 runtime and could only get Elite working if I had it set as my primary monitor and running in borderless mode I also tended to get a lot of crashes from the config tool. The weird thing was that Elite ran as if I was looking at my HD monitor, perfectly crystal clear, the weirder thing was that although head tracking and 3D were working all sense of scale was gone, the immersion felt totally off. I went back to the previous runtime and beta is running the same as the 1.2 release again now perhaps with some improvement but not overly noticeable to me.

That's similar to my experience except it didn't run at all for me (just two black screens and a flickering mouse pointer). Maybe I need to restart a few more times :) Certainly, 1.3b6 runs on runtime 0.5 every bit as well as 1.2 - ie just as good but no better. Are there definite performance improvements with 0.6 ? If so, I might persevere again tonight.

I ended up going back to 0.5 as it didn't feel right too me, sounds odd I know. An example would be inside the station, it all looked smaller like the VR magic wasn't there, it's really hard to explain lol. It does seem strange that some people have it working with 0.6 and others it doesn't work at all, guess it's all to do with individual setups.

Installed 0.6 and tried 1.3 beta last night. It has better performance with my GTX970 in stations and RES with DK2 in extended mode and secondary. It is not a big boost like in Euro Truck Simulator 2 but it is a step fordward.
In 1.2 can't set oculus quality slider to max and then turn on even a little bit of supersampling. Now I can. With supersamplig at max it is REALLY clear, but have judder in stations and RES so I have it at 1.5X if I am not mistaken.

EDIT: I didin't notice any problem with the sense of scale.

I keep noticing people saying they are using supersampling but whenever I try to use anything other than 1.0 in game SS or standard 1920x1080 (not dsr) I get judder and it's unplayable.

I have a GTX980 and a FX8350 cpu, have sweetfx settings running and all the other little tweaks mentioned on the forums. Settings are medium to high.

Yeah it's odd, I'm starting to think it was the way I had it setup. I was genuinely shocked by the clarity it was crystal clear.

I have a Gigabyte GTX970 G1 and an "old" i7 950 CPU. I believe my supersampling is configured via custom resolution in Nvidia control panel (not DSR) as explained "in Getting the best VR Experience" post.

There's no doubt the the ingame SS is GPU intensive and I honestly have no idea how a single 970 would hold up... Im running two 980s with everything set to ultra and SS x 1.5 and the experience is as good as it gets. I tried playing around with DSR but it's simply not comparable ... The text thickens rather than clears in my opinion. I also run the game on a 780ti back in UK and sacrifice graphics setting (low) so I can enable the ss X1.5

I would make sure you have all NVIDIA settings set towards performance in the control panel to have a realistic shot at hitting 75 FPS with SS. Maybe even some gpu oc'ing?

I was experimenting a lot with settings last night and personally found the in game SS to give sharper, more pixelated results (at 1.5x) where as running via a high display res gives a more natural appearance for me (1.2x or 1.5x effectively). I suppose it's personal preference.

Edit: ...later... OK - I don;t know how you guys are getting 0.6 to run with Elite at all. It's a mess for me - and even things like Virtual Desktop dont work properly (full screen doesn't work). Sigh. Back to 0.5

Also, I've dropped back to 1.0x and no SS at all - this almost eliminates all judder even in stations. I prefer to have everything at high or ultra detail, and the slight pita or reading text without SS is a trade off against better looking, smoother graphics everywhere else.

I also have the same results using SS so I use DSR x4 and adjust the other settings down to give me 75fps

I also get some pop in of textures (especially the textures around the space station when I exit)

Damn you lot are expensive web friends! Tried SS at 1.5 last nights on my 780ti, net result looks so much crisper but had to turn graphics down to minimum to get 75fps in station. 980ti now ordered...thanks a lot ;)

Tried running my rift last night with the new runtime 0.6, with 1.3 but to no avail. 0.6 breaks the game. Slightly surprised as my setup is very similar to Slack3r's. Gutted

Very true!
I recently built a new rig for other reasons, and with the intention of adding a 2nd 980 later on when prices drop. But, once I started to play ED, and then got a rift...WHOA! Now I keep looking at my system as an ever growing enhancement/tune up machine. Always looking to upgrade to get that full immersion.

Sold my DK2... upgrading to 2x 980ti's in sli (depending on what AMD come up with in the next few weeks) and waiting for CV1 ............. ^_^ patience.. Hopefully ill get a bargain in a few months when all the prices have come down :D

I admire your patience. I honestly can't wait, and have a difficult time playing non-VR. Best of luck, and may your rig laugh at the ultra graphics settings.

I am surprised you don't get 75fps with your 780ti. I thought they were more or less on par with the reference 980.

No option but to wait, love the DK2 with Elite dangerous, but every time I looked at it I saw half of a GTX 980ti and knowing the DK2 will be mostly obsolete in 8-9 months.... Sold it and made extra cash on it lol. I've also not really done any exploring in E D, just combat ( RES is DK2 amazing ) and trading, I want the best possible experience in VR when I go exploring so that was it, decided to go with 2x 980ti's in sli and the CV1... Fast forward summer >>
