Help a newb getting Elite with all VR bells and whistles running (AMD card)

Hiya, i am currently setting up for elite and have done a number of things already but have encountered a couple of problems:

I have my graphics settings all sorted (medium for most things, high textures, smaa, bloom, SS x 1.5) and i get good fps in space (90 - 130) and docking i get around 60 - 90 which is fine.

Im also using the EDDS (thanks Smack332) which is great for helping with the readability of the GUI. I dont have any problems reading the text.

I also setup some voice commands using Voiceattack (fantastic love it!) :D (though i get an error message when i try to do a command which counts multiple times e.g. "Shields UP!" doesnt do anything for some reason (i have it entered correctly i think LEFT arrow for full shields..i also edited it so the computer would say "Shields at Maximum!" (ST reference ;)) however the voice doesnt say anything..probably because the command isnt working due to it being a multiple count command. Not sure why it isnt working as all the other voice commands i have setup work fine.

Next thing i thought i would look at was SweetFX. I have it downloaded (v1.4) however i cannot for the life of me find the file Elitedangerous32.exe The only folder i have to do with Elite is the EDlaunch folder inside the Frontier folder. And as voiceattack has taught me i dont think i can point to the EDlaunch.exe

Reason why i thought sweetfx would be good as atm stars in the distance look a bit hrmmm. Its not an immersion killer but they dont look quite right whereas things like a sun look great from a distance...stars look blurry.

Travelling in frame shift is a bit tricky no? i find if it dont time it correctly coming out of framedrive then im way to far away. Ohh is there any tips for stuff to bind (e.g. to voiceattack) my brother said something about binding a key to a discovery scanner? I didnt see that key in the keyb control config?

Ohh another minor thing..when i move my head i get some ghosting (not much) i guess having Vsynch on would fix that?

thanks :D

If not on steam, ED is installed in App Data - Local and the frontier dev folder with Products in it. It's a weird folder name, something with FDEV. I personally don't use SweetFX as SS sharpens it enough without looking unnatural. The game forces VSync on when you enable Rift 3D (which is good because tearing would be horrible), unless you're overriding it through CCC.

The real problem is that it is difficult to objectify the quality of the VR experience. One man's "blurry" is another's "good enough". If you get a chance you should compare your set-up with someone else's. I'm sure LaveCon is going too have Oculus Rifts.

Stutter is due to frame rate dropping below 75, try turning down graphics in game. You don't say what card you have so hard to tell what you should be expecting. I have a GTX 780ti and run most things on medium with 1.5SS

As for SC, full throttle until 7 sec away then reduce it to 75%

The discovery scanner is classed as a weapon so assign it on the right panel in the cockpit then use a fire button.

Oh and the exe can also be in program files (x86) mine is

Hi i have a r9 290 (system specs in my sig :D)

Still cant find that elite folder for sweetfx but ive been trying other things with some success

disabled aa and ss in elite and force enabled it in CCC also enabled VSR for the DK2 with a res of 1536 x 2048 (which i think is x 1.5 res ?)

stars look much better and i think (though its hard as the devil is in the details haha) the text is a little better. FPS is a bit better i think (but will test more)

I might mess about with the resolution using Smacks EDDS (you can set custom resolutions using that as well)

edit: im doing more tinkering than playing the game LOL

hrmm im not sure now. When i switched off aa and af in ccc and loaded up elite again im not sure i could tell it was different. Also the 1536 x 2048 resolution not sure that worked. I can set it outside of elite in teh ccc for the dk2 but if i set it in elite it will give me 2 images and basically not work. Anyway isnt 1920 x 1080 higher than 1536 x 2048? Or is it 1080 x 1920 in the dk2?

edit: hrmm might just stay at the default res. when i enable vsr to put dk2 at higher resolutions im sometimes getting graphical errors and i also got a weird amber/blue flashing on the power button. Only way to resolve it was to hold it down to power it off.

ohh balls.. the flashing amber-blue power light is still here in extended mode. Will have to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of oculus stuff. Hope ive not buggered up my dk2 :(

edit: fixed it by reinstalling oculus 0.5.0.1

now problem of getting elite to display in the rift ahhhh lol

edit 2: finally got back in. :D

Im finding navigating a bit of a pain atm.. The default start place seemingly only has maybe 2 or 3 systems maximum that are within jump range of my lowly sidey (7.8 ly i think) I had a mission to courier to chumanga which actually looks fairly close on the galaxy map but its roughly 10 - 12 light years away so no chance to get to it. I thought i could plot a course in stages....but theres no connecting systems to it.....

the other problem i have is just using the galaxy map...is a bit of a mare... i seemingly select a system and the popup box appears (so i can select it/plot route etc) for only about 100th of a second. Why????? It doesnt seem to like me selecting any system...

Also i would really love it if i can filter the systems by the range limits of my engine...dont understood why this basic thing isnt in the game? :(

Another problem i have is if im in supercruise and i spot an unknown signal so i lock onto to and see if i can find out what it is but by the time i drop out of supercruise (even though i do it correctly and dont overshoot) it has disappeared??? does it show up on contacts automatically???

Solved this one - for some reason Appdata is a hidden folder so i just activated show hidden files in folder options (in control panel). Now to try sweetfx :D
