Hi all
I decided I wanted to try this again ... yet I have an issue I can't solve
FFE D3D works OK, but my console icons are missing.
I read on the first couple pages of this thread that some of you set the resolution to 1280 x 1068 and disabled the Aero theme. Then you started to talk about everything else from trying to register on the Russian forum to building models of ships to import into FFE D3D
I tried the resolution and disabling Aero theme tips, but my icons are still missing. I have no idea how you got it into full screen mode because windowed mode sucks.
Does anyone have any answers? I could do with some help please.

I've re-read other threads relating to this problem and I got the impression Commanders with Nvidia cards were more likely to have problems with the icons than ATI users. Having typed that, I'm sure my old Nvidia card was ok before I splashed out on a meaty ATI card.
Oh, I dunno. Might be worth trying your install on an ATI-equipped machine if you can, but please don't rush out and spend £300 on a new ATI card 'cos it might still not work!
Incidentally, there's still a good chance we'll see a new version of FFE from Tehnomag before the end of the year, so all is not lost...

Spot on Steve, it going to be called Final Frontier and is a complete scratch build with none of the original games code used in it's creation. Hope to hear some news about it soon. Check this thread for updates

Good to see that their may be something look forward to on the Horizon
Its been quiet on here for a while but i think most of us are still keeping an eye on the forum.
With the icons vanishing on NVidia cards, they show up fine on my Nvidia FX5200 card using the default Windows XP drivers (Yes, I'm hopelessly outdated - the only way I can afford to own a PC is by building out of other peoples' scrap parts...)

Yes still here, though if I'm honest, no only do I think E4 will never see the light of day, but intelligent strategy games on the pc seem to be a thing of the past: it's all console FPS's (even Civ5 seemed dumbed down and prettified to my eyes).
Or maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy!
Will always have fond memories, not just of Elite, but you guys (non-sexist Geraldine and Alien!) on the forum (sniff, sniff)
It does seem to be a trend these days doesn't it? Still, there are smaller scale indi games out there that still have complex game mechanics. For example, you could have a look at this free game (Far Colony) that's still in development.

I tried everything to get the missing icons, nothing worked. There is a long thread on all my attempts somewhere on here.
I'm hoping for a new version so the icons work. :-(

Sorry I've been bad and gone for several months. :-( *BUT* the new news had got me back into it.
Yep, that was me and no I never solved it and the list of what I tried is all documented on a thread here somewhere. It is quite extensive.
Icons never worked so I could never really play it. :-(

My icons are visible, they just don't always work when I click on them. Occasionally the odd one will work properly, but most of the time, I have to click somewhere around the icon to get it to recognise I'm trying to click on it...
Right click on the exe and disable visual themes.
Also try maximising or un-maximising the window.
I downloaded from the temporary site they set up because people were having trouble with the main site, maybe it'll help you?
