Seriously, you are rather crazy ...

Stop worring for nothing, let them develop their game.

They have a plan, and all info. You don't. This thread is useless.

first of all, sorry for totally ignoring all the previous pages about consoles, EA-comparison, "lack of content"-debates and the usual alarmism in general.

I'm just here to state, like others before me, that I would be more than willing to pay FD for user generated decals and/or paintjobs.
Just implement a button in the FD-store, where we can upload our 500x500 .PNGs and give it a pricetag. Leave the rest to your community. :)

There may be trouble ahead...

  • I wasn't happy about offline either.
  • There's only been ONE misleading trailer (and it was clearly marked that it wasn't actual gameplay).
  • We all agree the game should have been in a prolonged gamma as they expanded on the DDA features.

All that said, I think we're still too soon in the development cycle to throw the book at them yet. I want them to make money from this game and then continue development. They need more money than they've made.

The E3 2014 was abit misleading (station persons walking to your shup). Yes the cinematic trailer was marked as such. The CQC trailer of E3 2015. I'm pretty sure our ships don't fly that way. Not sure if there have been other trailers. Imho there have been more then the you described. But heh lets stop nitpicking ;-)

3 possibles scenario planned by FD about Elite low, mid, and high sales success

Actual figures seems to be slightly above mid scenario.

now Discuss with figures instead of arguing with no figures.

I have mentioned figures ;) Figures aren't the debate though.

The debate is 'Have Frontier Decided to Abandon The PC Development In Favour of Consoles?'

And to be honest this is my last post in this thread because it's a silly debate and the people I'm in disagreement with have already made up their own minds.

These revenue figures are based on 10 pounds a unit, whereas for most of 2015 its sold at 40 pounds. So I suspect they reached the bull scenario for units and exceeded revenue. The big issue is the units to sell for 16 and 17, for me those numbers are insane in the bull scenario. Lets hop XB1 really hits a sweet point.

FD have acted to try and secure the development Microsoft money, more visibility, more players. PC development to continue. I thinj the numbers by January 16 will be the key as to whether development will continue. For now its all systems go.

Figures are necessary : FD need consoles.

PC + Mac + XBoxOne + PS4 will give FD sales.

PC only is a suicide option for long term development.

I fear the Elite Fan based scenario is missing:

units sold: 0.6Mio. 0.7Mio. 1 Mio.
Revenue: 6 Mio. 0.65Mio. 0.75 Mio.

This reminds me of Dragons Den when you get these wildly overoptimistic sales figures plucked from thin air. So they have got £5m revenue from this year - the year of the release! And they are expecting £20m next year and then £80m the year after. What I wonder is going to generate these sales? If they have 'only' got £5m this year why on earth would they expect £20m next year? I know the starbase landings will have come in by then but sheesh. That seems a bit optimistic. And then what will have come in to make all the money the year after? Surely they can be expecting the expansions to put in that sort of money alone - 16x this years income? Not likely. Surely even Playstation and Xbox wont generate those sorts of sales?

Well said.

If anything they're closer to the last scenario...

And they don't "need" money. People act like FD is in dire straits and we all need to funnel money at FD to get the game we backed paid for and "had to" offer timed exclusive content in order to make the PC game they pitched. Complete rubbish.

The entire timed exclusive scam only hurts the industry and only helps CEO's golden parachutes.

i dont think this game will last that long, look what happening around the corner "Star Citizen". A much more advanced game, with a story line and a bigger fan base.

i would say this game needs to bring in as much as it can within the next year and then watch itself implode. I hope not, but im a backer of star citizen and am only playing this game as a stopgap until SC gets released. I bet you a lot of players are doing the same as me.

I would be all for a cheap subscription.

Would $1 - $2 USD a month be ok? Cause honestly that is all I would pay for this game in it's current state after shelling out lots of money supporting at and buying skins.

Somewhere there.
FD's needs are kept in a higher esteem than the royal family now. Trumphets and celebrity.
While we have a pretty empty game with half-baked elements and they are just doesn't want to be developed further since beta.
Anyway, open your purses, folks and listen to the call. Make a better world.

frontier is actually pretty good when it comes to money.
Frontier has over 240 employees and still hiring. also elite dangerous has a ten year development plan.
and remember witcher 3 was made with 200 employees....
but the thing that makes me curious is what are the 200 employees working on? because they have been seriously tight lipped about their development in elite.
my guess is that they have been working on planetary landings and ship interiors and all those mechanics and content that comes with the paid expansions.

They been working on Screamride, Tales from Deep Space,

Well said. Given that the original price point was £10 as stated earlier, it's more likely that the revenue will top £40 million this year, and the profits, even with extra investment, are likely to far exceed the original bull revenue estimate. FDEV are likely to be in rude financial health at this moment in time - Mr Braben should be able to afford as many comfy jumpers as he likes.

Somehow i doubt that ED's playerbase is likely to cause this huge amount of flying space wieners that it will be a major concern for FD.
I doubt that your doubt is grounded in much more than a desire for player decals and paintjobs. Anyway, a much more likely reason is that user-generated decals will incur significant database changes, both for storing decals/paintjobs on the servers, and for the data structures used to store player ship info currently. There would be a corresponding increase in server bandwidth when joining existing islands or or creating new ones, in order to transmit the user content to all peers. This is bypassed at present due to the fact that all such graphic data is developer-created and stored on the client.
